I actually like the side power button. I prefer to use my laptop docked a lot and not having to open it to reach the power button is awesome

the way they have implemented the side button is stupid. The actual button is not placed perpendicular to the mainboard. a right angle pece of plastic is used to trigger the button. This model is notorious when it comes to power button failure where the button is not affected but the small plastic clicker get broken and you will not be able to turn on the laptop. I have this laptop. It is amazing in person. It looks great, feels great, has an incredible OLED display, good speakers, great battery life + standby time, and it is eminently portable. The ports don't bother me because I am forward-looking anyway. I just bought a USB-C thumb drive, and I'm good to go. I'm only waiting for Linux support before I am truly happy with it.

Purchased this laptop and immedietely returned it. The specs are promising and the features are great, but software compatibility with the Snapdragon chip is just not there and we can expect it to be alot longer than what it took Apple when they switched from Intel. As of right now this laptop is alot of wasted potential.

I've got my eye on this one to replace a Lenovo Slim Pro I have that runs a 6800hs and 3050. Sadly I can only get 16GB of ram in Canada, but I think it might be enough.

@@RunForPeace-hk1cu Especially after the scrutiny they received pre-launch, it likely won't be any easier to write an exploit for Recall than it is now for practically any other form of subterfuge: stored passwords in browsers, files/data, biometrics, session cookies... sure, it's a risk, but once a criminal is inside a personal computer, the world is at their fingertips. But imagine: "What should I do next?" "Well, yesterday, you emailed with a client and promised him you'd get back with him this afternoon. I'd suggest you do this next, before your 2pm sales meeting." I realize that this functionality will not be available at launch, but I'd be willing to bet a substantial sum it'll happen soon. And it will be an absolute game-changer. Using your PC for unsavory activities along with work? Don't enable Recall. Simple! For the rest of us, those with real jobs who are truly busy humans, this might turn out to be revolutionary. Just saying.

The biggest issue with ARM based windows laptops is the lack of optimization for ARM. In that aspect you are better off going for an Apple laptop. Since you won't be gaming much (if at all) on these CPU's anyways then you really don't need the other Windows things either (I guess).

I think tolerance for incompatibility depends on the nature of the "hiccups," If things just run more slowly for now until the next update, I think that's acceptable. But if we have a printer or external keyboard or monitor or speakers that doesn't work, and timing for a fix is completely unknown, that's a lot harder to accept.

For video editing with resolve this is an absolute let down, I was looking to upgrade from my Macbook M1 Air, but I guess it's not happening. The media engine are the same with m1/m2/m3 for h.264/h.265/prores after all, so my almost 4 yesr old M1 Air also beats out this Lenovo 7x as well, kinda sad. I was really looking forward to this one especially as the form factor and weight are about the same as my M1 Air but with a larger OLED display, bigger battery and a fan to prevent overheating. Rip, what a let down.

I don't know what apps other people are using that they say the Snapdragon SOCs are no good or only for low power, etc. I'm currently using mine for software development (Visual Studio & VS Code) and it's great. A real powerhouse. I'm not sure what you might want to do (other than video editing) that would want more power, tbh.

It is great for the CPU as it has 12 cores which is more than every ultrabook rival. The problem is for GPU-related workflows where it is distinctly subpar. Maybe drivers will improve GPU performance, but do not buy this for GPU-related work; e.g. Blender and rendering video.

@@andyH_England I would never buy any laptop - even one that claims to have a "mobile 4090" or some such bollocks - for anything requiring GPU intensive workloads. They don't have the power and those "mobile 4090" GPUs get easily outclassed by a desktop 1060ti most of the time. However, I think that using the NPU for limited offloading from the GPU would be possible, so perhaps we'll see something around that soon. With all that said, I'll be excited to see a desktop packaging of these Oryon CPU's or the Elite X SOCs so we can see what happens when we pair them with a real GPU.

MacBook hands down. This processor does not have proper software compatbility yet. Even mainstream apps like Adobe Premiere Pro have not yet been released for the Snapdragon.

Thank you for the review. I went to check out the link you provided to see how much it would cost. A concern with this item centers on whether or not it has an audio jack for wired earbuds. Personally, I remain a ludite on that... I do have a question on a feature that many take for granted, and that is "bluetooth" and security features for it, specifically, is it secure, and how easily can it be "hacked?" Thank you.

Indeed there is another video very critical and at 6:01 is a benchmark versus power draw scatter plot. Think of Snapdragon as a CPU that does more work then Intel using too much power just like Intel! AMD and apple M3 - both designed by Jim Keller at some point - do the same work at 25% less power!

@@dgillies5420Jim Keller also worked on Golden Cove architecture which is in 12th gen Alder Lake. Intel own node has been behind TSMC and Apple has been on TSMC’s 3nm node for 2 years ahead of AMD and Qualcomm. Then there is also the low-power efficiency penalty of x86 vs ARM. It’s gonna be more comparable when Strix Point, Lunar Lake (both on improved node) and next gen Snapdragons come to market.

I was wondering if we should continue to highlight a product made by a company with close ties to the Chinese government. How are they able to source a 4nm processor? Will Qualcomm supply the processors that will go into missile systems targeting Americans serving our country? With so many other great products, acknowledging that many are assembled in China, should we continue to support companies that are owned by those close to the Chinese government? The Legend Computer Company, now Lenovo, represents the best of Chinese engineering and continues to produce great products long after it purchased IBM PC division. So this isn’t denigrating the company and its employees. But the reality is that Lenovo is basically a state owned enterprise. We are free to purchase products from whoever we want. That comes with living in a free country, but should we consider factors beyond our narrow self interest?

Qualcomm is an American company and chip designer. Lenovo is one of the few Chinese tech companies that aren’t sanctioned in the USA because most of its leadership and workforce is not Chinese. People buy products from Lenovo because they are one of the few laptop manufacturers left that don’t scam you for simple things such as ram and storage.

Matt Moniz, who sees maybe a dozen new devices a month -- for you this color is awesome because it is different from all the other darn laptops you see which are mostly black. You know, I always had gotten the space gray iPhone. Then with the 12 mini i said what the hell and got the blue phone. I instantly regretted it (the color, not the phone; the phone was awesome and a family member is still using it to this day). Then I got a blue Yoga 6 for my daughter, and both of us didn't love the color. Ever since these blunders, I'm back to boring old black. Just like the sticker guy. He's so excited about these new Snapdragon stickers, so he's being extra careful to put them on in perfect symmetry and alignment. But soon he's going to be bored and drinking on the job again, and our Snapdragon stickers will be as crooked as our GeForce and AMD and Intel stickers. The only good job in the sticker business is the sticker guy who works at Apple. And that guy is union and unfireable. That's about the cushiest job in the entire tech industry.

Chinese always make it a bit cheaper cutting on some basic hardware. In this particular case, their laptop is a little cheaper than Samsung's Edge 4 but has a slower processor and a way worse screen.

I got that blue color in the last year machine - don't buy it. It comes apart. And I don't mean the edges. In the middle of the machine, small particles come apart. It is not IN the metal. It's just a coating... Would strongly recommend not getting this color even though it looks fantastic.

I was looking on Lenovo UK website they have in 4 variations with a 32gb ram option and 1TB storage for £1,350 incl VAT and I was wondering if double the ram would make a big difference in operation, I know it will take time for software to catch up but considering how much cheaper this is to my Macbook pro like almost half the price and one of the main reasons I bought a Mac was battery and running cool and quiet which this seems to manage quite well also that oled touch screen too, plus I still prefer windows to Mac OS

Hi Jim. Did you buy this laptop in the end? I'm been thinking of getting it too. (Mac user who's a bit disillusioned with the slow improvements on this side). I think 32 GB wouldn't affect most software, unless you're doing some graphics/video work. But it's always good for the future to have more RAM. (Some reviewer online said that that much of memory is "overkill", but you can fairly easily chew through 16 GB RAM with the right apps!) Let us know how you decided. Cheers.

@@williamarrowsmith2748 Hi, no I went for the Microsoft snapdragon laptop in sapphire mostly because I read some very bad reports of Lenovo customer service being awful plus the MS laptop has a nice keyboard and trackpad that's as good as my Mac pro and the superior build quality it's just an IPS panel but a good one, my suggestion is go into a store and try them out hands on that way you get a better idea of what you're buying, hope this helps

I don't understand the obsession with fingerprints. A laptop is a tool, I'm interested in hardware and performance. I will not put it on the wall as a picture. But that's the type of nonsense that spills over from the Apple ecosystem. It doesn't matter that the screen is clearly 3 generations behind everyone else, that it doesn't have a good selection of ports, that small capacity sdd and ram are sold at premium prices, and that it's impossible to upgrade the hardware because everything is welded to the motherboard, but hey, it looks pretty.

Something´s off with the Surface Pro OLED battery test, mine is getting 14 hours SOT.

While browsing and stuff? I'm not getting that on mine. It also not stated to last the long while browsing. I think Msft said 10 hours for browsing, 14 for video. With reduced brightness. But I absolutely get much better battery than I did on Intel/AMD.

Even MS does not quote 14 hours. You must have it on low brightness. I get 8-10 hours SOT. It is about half what I get on my much cheaper MB Air M2 15-inch, which gets 18-20 hours doing the same stuff. It is not as bad on battery gaming as FPS is well below rivals.

@@andyH_England 14 on local video playback, 10 on browsing stuff. But I guess you could get 14 if it idles a lot. Still, battery is pretty damn good on my Surface Pro.

I would like this with linux for software dev. Dream laptop when you travel. I never bought laptop because how inferior battery is compared to apple and i hate apple

Possibly yes, but they won't beat Apple. Apple controls the whole platform which is essential to saving power! They can do things like use low energy LEDs in their custom display! They can cut the ram in half to save power and use a very fancy virtual memory system to get back most of that loss. They keep saving power in the CPU and optimize the throttling until they can throw away the fan and save even more power! These laptops use most of the Apple ingredients but the assembly is clumsy and disjointed!
