In this tutorial, I will teach you how to change meter in the 8-Bit sound sequencer FamiTracker. While it may seem FamiTracker is capable of displaying only common time, this is not so! This video will show you that it is possible to create simple, compound and even mixed metrical feels that are easy to read.
This tutorial is divided into four parts. First, I will discuss the importance of highlights. Second, I will describe how to display simple meters. Thirdly, I will show how to display compound meters. Finally, I will discuss mixed meters in FamiTracker and provide an example.
Metrically dynamic music is an essential part of 8-Bit music composition. It is my hope that this video will provide you with the tools necessary to translate various time signatures into metrical patterns within FamiTracker. Let's get tracking!

so, at speed 3, what would be 4/4 time ? every 36 lines ?
@MatthewIvic
@MatthewIvic 3 ай бұрын
It depends on what you consider a subdivision of the beat. If you are using the default row highlights as a point of reference for the beat (quarter note), and only change the speed from 6 to 3, then rows 00 - 1F would be one measure at 150 BPM. If you are treating each row as a sixteenth note subdivisions, the BPM would be 300. Conversely, you could treat every other highlighted row as quarter note and the BPM would be 75. It's all about the smallest subdivision of the beat that you need. :) Hope that helps!

Hi, some of the things I want to work on have pickup measures. Is there an efficient way to do this?
@MatthewIvic
@MatthewIvic Жыл бұрын
Sure! Off the top of my head you can try this: 1. Create a 'pickup' frame. 2. Input pickup music 3. At the end of the pickup music use the Bxx effect to jump to the next appropriate frame. For the Bxx effect, if you want to jump to say frame 01, you would insert B01. Hope that helps!

If i set the row highlights to 5 and 20 and have 80 rows, what time would that be? Also, would 7/4 highlights be 4 and 28 or 7 and 28? Thanks!
@MatthewIvic
@MatthewIvic Жыл бұрын
1) It would still be 4/4 time. The displayed subdivision would give you a quintuplet feel or 5:1. 2) Depends how you want to display the subdivision, but I'd go with 4 and 28. This would display an even subdivision of the beat or 4:1 (probably what you're looking for). 7 and 28 would display no subdivision in 7/4 time, or like with your first question, would give you a 4/4 feel with a septuplet feel or 7:1. Hope that helps!

Uh-heh-heh, I've used DXX for Mixed-Meter for years! Always have, always shall. Speaking of Mixed-Meter, I would have personally prefered the "X"-character in the pixelated-font that comprised that phrase in your video, to have been horizontally-symmetrical, since it totes would've been possible, by offsetting its center-point up by one pixel. But maybe that's just me. My vision, is, at 25PPI after all.
