Hey Guys, Sorry about the delay on this video. It was a hard video to film and edit, mainly due to my camera. It struggled in the very cold weather, and the brake dust didn't help.
My car is a 2012 BMW 116i Auto, and I got a message that its time to change my pads. I thought as I was making a video, that id change the discs too.
I will edit this later, and list the tools I used, plus a list of parts I used with the part numbers. Most likely tomorrow as its late here in Moscow.
If you like the video please let me know, like shar enad subscribe.
If you feel i missed something amiss, please let me know in the comments.
Parts I used.
Cars can vary from month to month, so its best to use www.realoem.com to search your cars VIN number, and then the parts.

Thank you for a new diy-video! I liked it, it’s very interesting to see how the certain parts of the car can look before you change them and afterwards. Moscow roads seem to make the bottom of all the cars super dirty 🙈 Do you think it means, that the certain details of the car need to be changed sooner, than in England? Anyway, thank you for this video once again! Keep up making your new diy-videos, I’m waiting for the new ones already!

Alla Blackcat I’m glad someone likes these videos lol :) the Russian roads do mess up the cars unfortunately it’s harder for me to work on this car than all my past bmws in England. Parts will need changing a lot quicker in Moscow due to the road and weather conditions. I will be making more diy videos soon. Thank you x

Nice job man! I am about to change my rear brake pads as well, but I have a little doubt. For the rear calipers, don't you need a special tool to rotate the piston at the same time you are pushing it back?

Iván thank you :) on my car I didn’t need a wind in tool. I really need to make a video on how to adjust the handbrake after changing the rear discs. Before you attempt the job, search how to adjust the rear handbrake. It’s the same as the e90 BMW. Thank you and good luck

90nm for the bolts on the calipers seems like an awful lot. In another video the gentleman stated to not put more than 50nm of torque on these. Where did you get these numbers from?

So it says replace the bolts then torque down to 50nm and then 60 degrees of torque. Thank you once again for picking up on that mistake. www.newtis.info/tisv2/a/en/f20-116i-sha/repair-manuals/34-brakes/34-21-rear-wheel-brakes/GfyH0Hrd

Hi Matt, Thanks for your detailed video. I figured that I'm going to change all four brake discs and pads myself on my F20 116i 2011. I'm confident that if I got the right equipment (torque wrench etc) that I can do this. With the help of your videos of course! As I'm keen to do this the right way I want to change the calliper mount bolts. The ones you used in your video are extremely rare and expensive to buy; 15$ each with 17$ shipping to the Netherlands makes. How did you managed to get them for a fair price? Any way that I can contact you outside KZfaq? Thanks!

Hi @mattsbeamer. Greting from Portugal. I'm a long time viewer of your channel. I have a question for you. Yesterday I left my F20 116ED to change rear brake pads and discs, just a common procedure for a BMW dealer for sure. For my surprise, the dealer called me saying that they cant return the brake caliper from the rear left wheel back to position and the diagnosis is a bad ABS module. The car at this moment is stuck, it can't move because this wheel is stuck. Fact is that, when I delivered the car in the dealer, the car was running (otherwise I wouldn't reach there...). Furthermore, I asked to see the car and there was a message in the cluster and in the Idrive saying something like "Stability Control, moderate speed" and the ESP light was ON. obviously none of this where there before. I would like to ask you if you think that they could damaged the ABS module by any manner? I feel like I send the car to a BMW dealer to get a well job done, not to have a car that can't move at all. Thank you.

Hi thanks for your great vids. Can I ask, is it definitely safe to jack on the differential? Although I've seen it mentioned for other BMW's, there is no mention of it in our F20 manual??

John R hey, I had to research this too, as I was a bit concerned. It has an exact point on the differential where it needs to be jacked up, avoiding the fins etc. I will find the page where I found the jacking points.

@@mattsbeamer Fair enough. Thanks anyway. I did it today, I wanted to get it on axle stands at the front. I used the point dead on where the small hole is in the undertray recessed square between the two wheels. I'm sure this is correct 🤔. As I cranked the jack higher, there was a couple of loud cracking sounds. I think it was the jack as I don't use it too often and never done both wheels together with it. But I didn't carry on and lowered it. The car seems fine so far. But it's got me thinking
