I recently had an early(ish) morning flight from London's Heathrow airport which presented a familiar dilemma. A really early start and drive in? Cadge a bed off a mate who lives closer, or spend the night in an airport hotel?
I chose the latter, and chose the Premier Inn most convenient for Terminals 2 and 3 at Heathrow. And this is the story of that stay!

Oh dear! Bad KZfaqr!!! Credit to Bertie - he pointed out that there is a phone in the room. A big one too! Under the TV... I'd stayed in a Premier Inn years ago that definitely didn't have one - I had to walk to the reception to ask a question - and they said it was a deliberate strategy not to have one. So when I couldn't see one by the bed, I assumed that was group-wide strategy... Apologies!

Wow that’s a very old premier inn room! Suprised they haven’t re-done them like the many other premier inn hotels seen as it’s a fairly busy/popular hotel.

The Premier at T4 is usually equally cheap and has a direct TFL bus to T5 and, in normal times, the tube to T2/3. At the moment the walkways to T4 and the tube between T4 and T2/3 are suspended which makes it poor for T3 but for T5, the 490 and 482 have stops right outside the hotel - no need to get on/off at T4 or use the walkways.

@@MattsPlanet Yes, the tube is only any good for T3 - bus definitely for T5. But that would less convenient if you had large baggage. Note that TFL is no longer free round the airport so some form of touch payment is required. From T5 don't get off at T4, get off at Starlight Way. Going back, the bus stop is just out of the hotel and turn right.

The video made me chuckle, I stayed here most weeks, Monday to Friday for a year when working in the area. Happy people going on holiday never failed to irritate me when I was not jetting off!

@@MattsPlanet Out of curiosity I checked my Premier Inn app.. Bath Road clocked in at 236 nights, with Cheadle lagging behind on 143 nights. You can tell much of my work was at LHR or MAN pre-covid! The app also shows I have stayed in almost 160 Premier Inns... What a missed opportunity for a KZfaq channel!

I've stayed at this Premier a couple of times and will be doing so again in a few weeks, handy having Purple parking right next door, early morning PP shuttle to T5 The hotel has outside terrace ideal for plane spotting with a (beer sneaked in with your luggage) on a warm summer's evening no better way to start that trip/holiday

I would have thought the refurbishment has now been completed, PP+ rooms are now showing on the web site. My standard refurbished room certainly had a large screen tv .

I have stayed at this premier inn got to use the Hotel Hopa it was myself and my wife for return was 8.00 I could use the ticket the next day in January 2016

I stayed at the Terminal 4 Premier Inn last week, as it was easy to walk to Hatton Cross and then get the tube to T5 from there. Much more modern and did have a phone, larger TV etc. I’m surprised they haven’t modernised a lot of the rooms in this one you’re reviewing, especially given it’s an airport hotel :) Good value for £39 I paid though!

Just wanted to say "Thank You" for posting this video. We have a very long layover at Heathrow in a few months. This is our first time at this airport. I've been trying to get a good understanding of the layout. I'll definitely check out this hotel. Thanks again. Looking forward to the next episode.

No worries Joe! There is a "Hopper" service which runs around the hotels but its expensive and it can take ages if yours is the last hotel on the list... London buses are great, very inexpensive and are quick too provided you can work them out... Which does get harder if you've just got off a long trip.... Glad this video helped though!

Hi Mr H! It was kinda like a cross between a McDonalds and a Wetherspoons - in terms of the style of the offering not the products offered - and I quite liked it!

Relatively new subscriber here, so watching the slightly older content! I stay between this hotel and the T5 one fairly regularly. Never had any complaints! I'm glad you have raised awareness of these hotels as i have seen a lot of people just hit the hotel booking sites and pay sometimes triple for a hotel in the same area because they didn't know premier inns were around! Loving the videos and can't wait for more :) PS - that check in colleague is a credit to the company. Always super friendly and approachable!

Stayed here recently but in a Premier Plus room which i didnt realise I booked. loved ‘borrowing’the Nespresso machine pods 😂

I’ve stayed at their T4 one a couple of times as the access is outstanding if you’re taking the tube/train to Heathrow. If you can luck out and get a room with a view of the airport it’s really great

Great review, Matt! I stayed at the Premier Inn T5 last week and I very much enjoyed it. Unlike yours, my room had phone and charging points beside the bed; it hosts a Costa coffee too. Did self check-in at one of three PCs in the reception and check-out took just a couple of seconds; crossed the street, caught 423 bus, 1 stop et voilá I was into T5 arrivals hassle-free. Overall great overnight stay for 39 GBP.

Cheers Alberto... There was a phone in my room... Quite a big one too!!! Just under the tv but I didn't even notice... I will do some form of community service to recompense for my error! Can't beat a £39 hotel stay!

Good video Matt, nothing wrong with a Premier Inn have stayed at a few on our travels even the Travlelodge group are also good for one night stays. Yes I would stay in them again.

I’ve stayed at this hotel countless times in previous years, but not recently. I would like to see it gain the new Premier Inn Plus rooms which are currently only available at the T4 Premier Inn. T5 premier inn is currently being refurbished, so maybe it will gain them too. Gatwick North P Inn also has them. I would like to see you review one. We’ve had some very good experiences at Hereford, Pickering & Islington in these rooms.

Nice Video, Matt. Thank you very much, it was well done and very informative. Would I stay there, don't know. I wouldn't be particularly averse, it looked to be a comfortable enough establishment to lay your head for a night. I would have to avoid the buses though, wretched things play merry hell with my stomach. But as I'm not UK resident I'm usually mobile with a rental car complete with rapped knuckles from repeatedly trying to change gear with the door handle so it would likely be a moot point. I do have to agree with you that the munch until you drop challenge for breakfast when waved under your nose can take some willpower to reign in, its a good job I usually don't eat before midday as a rule. Just don't get between me and a morning brew, some creatures are best not called from the crypt. Something has to at least trigger a semblance of synaptic response, eh?

Thanks for the kind words. Tier Point runs for Star Alliance aren't quite so straightforward as with BA - each member airline has a different earning rate and qualification threshold so its hard to generalise. I will do a video about how I got to Star Gold (when I get there!!!) and I'll show the techniques I used to find the flights I took. Hopefully that will be interesting!

I’m not sure how you beat that . I have some travel planned for October - not a high season month for hotels here in the US. I’m seeing 40-100% increases over what I paid the same time last year. Hope it’s the last of the pandemic “Revenge travel” tailwind as the press has called it.

Thanks Scott - I have another early morning trip booked which will need a stay close to T2 again - the Premier Inn is 60% more expensive than it was in this video. Will probably stay somewhere else to increase the stay database, but I was a little disappointed when I checked the pricepoint... I found the US really expensive when I was there last month, partly as the value of the pound has tanked!

Hi Matt. Great vlog and personally, would like to see more vlogs on LHR and Gatwick hotels. On arriving from 🇺🇸 we like to stay At LHR that 1st night. For convenience, we tend to use the Sofitel T5 due to easy location, from baggage claim. Do Premier Inns provide shuttles ? Please do more of these, when you can. Very helpful 👍👊😁🍷 thanks 😊 👍

Thanks Elaine. I will do more, probably 1 per trip from Heathrow!!! No shuttles from the Premier Inn - not for £35 a night - although an Uber would be very simple to arrange. I did stay at the Sofitel a few years back - a bit soulless but extremely convenient! There is a hack for staying there - or at least there used to be. There's only 1 5 star hotel available on lastminute.com at Heathrow - www.headforpoints.com/2020/01/06/discount-sofitel-heathrow-t5-hotel-lastminute/ Might save a few quid

Great video Matt. One for the pedants out there... you mentioned no phone in the room, but looks like there is one just under the TV? I for one tend to avoid any flights before midday due to the severe hassle of getting to the airport in the morning. If I do have to fly early, I usually stay at a hotel the night before. I've stayed at the Novotel on the other side of Bath Rd and have to say this premier inn seems pretty much on par with that. Just avoid the garish "Easyhotel Heathrow" which is situated in the middle of a field in Harlington!

Thanks Bertie - you're absolutely right! I stayed in a PI years ago which absolutely didn't have one - I needed to communicate with reception and was grumpy that I had to put trousers on and walk down to talk to them. They told me it was a cost saving strategy to not have one. When I didn't see one beside the bed on this trip I guess I assumed this was a group wide strategy! Bad KZfaqr... Thanks for being polite in pointing out my error! I don't much like flying before midday, particularly when I have lounge access, because I try hard not to drink heavily in the mornings, so get better "value" from an afternoon flight!

@@MattsPlanet I think this hotel must have been an exception, I don't think I've ever stayed in a Premier Inn with a telephone. Sometimes at check in though they give you the reception desk's number so you can ring on your mobile. I can't drink that much in the morning either, so I see the point as you get better value out of the lounge if you can get more champagne down you.

We have stayed here loads of times, sometimes just for a night away to watch the planes, have got it a cheap as £29 once! We have had a pizza there, but that was terrible, so give that a miss. We stayed in the courtyard hotel a full night's ago, before our flight to Dubai (where we are now, it's heaven), that is an amazing hotel, but obviously not for £29!!

I'm definitely all for an airport hotel, actually find it a more relaxed start to a trip. I'm T5 90% of the time and I really like the pod parking there, sometimes very good deal with the Thistle hotel not as cheap as Premier Inn but no bus to catch in the morning ! The actual building of the Premier Inn is the same as the Hilton at T4 ?

Another useful video for my upcoming trip to Bucharest where I have to overnight from Jersey due to another BA flight change-what bus gets you to T5? could I walk it with minimal luggage?

It's a really long way to T5 from there.... T5 is actually poorly served by hotels unlike T2 and T3. The best bet may be to get a bus into the T2/3 complex then jump on the tube or heathrow express across to T5. There is a Sofitel right in T5 but its quite pricey... As for which bus - several run in the area. I strongly recommend downloading Citymapper - you can actually experiment with routes and timings from the other side of the world before you travel.

@@MattsPlanet thanks Matt-actually just stayed at the Sofitel last Sunday when BA had moved all our flights-very nice but pricey as you said-although BA picked up the tab-also food pricey too-two burgers and a bottle of wine plus coffee £88-won’t be staying there next weekend for my tpr to Bucharest-will try premier inn.

Uber certainly - no problems... I think most busses run 24 hours but worth a google before you get there

Matt. Did it cost you anything on the bus. I've heard that there is a free travel zone around the Heathrow area on the buses, from the Holiday Inn. I don't know how true it is. I know you have to pay £6 for the Hoppers. Rip off. Thanks Steve. C. YNWA

Hi Steve. In Thailand so the derby today is in the middle of the night here but I think I'm glad I'll be missing it!!!! I got on that bus for free as I have a disabled bus pass on account of deafness... Although the driver shouldn't have accepted it (I later worked out) as it was before 9:30am so wasn't valid... Otherwise I would have donked for £2. The free travel zone was abolished a few years back and the hopper is expensive and sloooooooow if your hotel is low on the list...

Please make sure to blur peoples faces like other aviation youtubers. You should know better, one day someone can sue you for privacy breach and you can lose everything. In the UK, filming and posting videos that show identifiable individuals in private-public areas such as airports, hotels, and airplanes is generally not allowed due to privacy laws like the GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018. These laws require obtaining consent or having a lawful basis for processing personal data, which includes video recordings. Individuals have a reasonable expectation of privacy in these settings, and violating this by filming without consent can lead to legal consequences, including fines and regulatory actions. Filming in a public non-private space like public streets is a different matter

Thanks for that. I filmed this one three years ago before I knew that the channel would get traction and was much less aware of this sort of issue than I am now.... These days I am much more careful... And as you say, the word "generally" means this is still a grey area and the journalistic side of what I do may provide exemptions.... I don't want to be the test case for this though so caution is my approach these days!!!
