This was recorded in 1998. I read today that Nanci survived bouts with breast cancer in 1996 and thyroid cancer in 1998. What a strong spirit. Rest in Peace.

RIP dear Nanci. I was heartsick when Dan Fogelberg passed away over a decade ago, followed a few months later by Kate McGarrigle. Now I am incredibly saddened by the passing of Nanci Griffith. All incredibly gifted songwriters. We were blessed to have heard and lived their music.

Unbelievable. Two of my favorite songbirds. RIP Nanci. What an artist. Such sensitive and lovely songwriting! I love how Nanci humbly allows Maura to take the lead on the vocals, appearing to thoroughly enjoy the justice she offers this masterpiece. And the two together--wow, those harmonies. I can't stop listening.

Modern, even I who am of Maura's generation wouldn't say that. Maura's seminal solo album Collected, her best work in my opinion, was released in 1987. There are so many, unique and diverse, traditional and non traditional, established and new, female singers, songwriters and musicians (men too) in Ireland today, it would be extremely difficult to pick any one above the rest.

I do love her music and it was a very gracious of her to welcome my husband and I to sit and share drinks and conversation with her and her band members after a small local concert we went to years ago. Our oldest daughter chose" Feet of a Dancer" for her dance with her daddy at her wedding. Maura's music has been a part of the "soundtrack" of our 30 year marriage from the beginning. She has a beautiful voice and there is also so much soul in every song she performs. Thank you for sharing this video. It is a beautiful reminder of love even in troubled times.
