Maurice de Vlaminck: A collection of 466 works (HD)
Description: "Maurice de Vlaminck (French, April 4, 1876-October 11, 1958) is recognized as one of the pioneer Fauvism painters in Europe, alongside his friends and influencers André Derain and Henri Matisse. Vlaminck began painting in his late teens, taking lessons from a local Parisian artist named Henri Rigalon. He also doubled up as a musician after his father taught him to play the violin at a young age; but his main interest was painting, especially after he met Derain by chance following a train accident in 1900. The two painters set up a studio in Paris together from 1900 to 1901. This was a major turning point in Vlaminck''''s style of painting, which took place after he saw Van Gogh''''s Post-Impressionist paintings exhibited in France. The powerful brush strokes and intense use of unnatural colors by Van Gogh soon became his trademark, as witnessed in one of his first exhibitions held in 1905 at the Salon des Indépendants, together with Derain and Matisse. One of Vlaminck''''s most popular paintings is the Remorqueur sur la Seine, Chatou (1906). This and other pieces that mainly consisted of primary color palettes prompted art critic Louis Vauxcelles to term the artists as Fauves (wild beasts) due to their unrestrained manner of painting, which was not common at the time. The artist traveled to London in 1911 and painted the River Thames, but returned to France during World War I, where he was stationed in Paris. His post-war paintings became more subdued, influenced by Paul Cézanne''''s work. The painter settled in Northwestern Paris and married a second wife, Berthe Combe, with whom he had two daughters. During this time, he wrote numerous poems and several novels, including autobiographies and songs. The artist also cycled along the Seine River for inspiration. His final works before his death in 1958 were mostly Post-Impressionist in nature, depicting rural scenes of his hometown in France."

A brilliant painter. I love his skies, in particular, but so much else. He captured nature so beautifully and it was lovely to see people inhabiting his scenes. He seemed to like painting the working people as part of the landscape; that seemed to have been natural to him. The painted, party-loving gals he did; well, he had something else to say there, I think.

Awesome. I am flabbergasted . I just started drawing and painting last year so I like to watch true Artists at their best. My Twin has his own channel on You Tube. He taught me a lot . I just keep doodling along. Some portraits , some landscapes and abstract.

I am an Intuitive Artist. That is how I know what needs to be where it is suppose to. Though Portraits I do a lot of erasing because it is not as it should be. Houses and landscapes are easier. Still I use my intuition to draw and paint.

Beautiful virtual art exhibition , certainly imposible to see all this at one place in real world. Greate work. Thank you. * My small sugestion would be - to sort out paintings in the video Chronologicaly , as it then, beautifully presents painters progresion in lifetime. (*It is somehow hard to jump from his youth into old age and back , ... again and again. ) But ... despite this small difference in my sugested approach, Your VIDEOS are wonderful . Thank you on your work !

Had no clue so many of his works were not Post Impressionist and Fauvist. Seems his work concentrated on Post Impressionist Realism, such as it is. Many paintings were dead ringers for late Cezanne and Van Gogh

Is anyone an expert on his work? I have a painting that looks to be by him. Here is the text on the frame. Vlaminck La Fregate. The painting is of a large French ship with a man on it. The weather looks gloomy. There appears to be land in the middle-left of the photo. If anyone needs any more info on this, please reach out. I have only found one photo of it online in the form of a postcard. Thanks, Alex.

Art must be true and it was enough of falsehood and lies! According to the latest research, Vlaminck's modernist paintings were painted by the young Kokoschka and there is evidence of that!

Those are the WORST Vlamincks I’ve ever seen. Was that before he met Derain and started using color? I’m not surprised he didn’t give up his day job when the art dealer bought the contents of his studio, this early work is abysmal. Compared to Derain and Matisse, this guy was way outclassed, but are we even talking about the same artist? The work of his that I’ve seen in books of Fauvist art was much more structured and brightly colored, definitely less amateurish. These look like knock-offs done by a faker, and not a very good one at that. This can’t be the same guy who was painting sunsplashed harbor scenes down in the South of France with his buddies every summer, these paintings are depressing. Where are the boats?
