We already get our width's from our wingbacks. If we try playing more with wingers, that will absolutely kill the effectiveness of Chilwell and James (both who are incredible strikers and crossers of the ball) Nkunku also started to improve his goal scoring when Werner joined and they played more like an 2 striker pairing (similarly to how Werner did at Chelsea).

And to think they want to sell Mount and Kova. There’s a reason why City want Kova and United want Mount. That should be huge red flags to keep these players. We haven’t learned from Ake, Musiala, De Bruyne, and Salah

Kovacic and mount are just going to complete their squads in those teams. They have their first team in place.

regarding the formation...whats the difference btwn wingers (in an attacking 3) & flankers (in an attacking 1 at the top & 3 behind the striker?

@@3xdope418 Basically due to the width being provided by the wing backs in a 3-4-3 the wide players need to be more technically astute and significantly better in tight spaces as they would be tucked in most of the time to allow space for the wing backs when I think of teams that have deployed that formation the players that have thrived in it aren't pure wingers take Papu Gomez & Josep Illicic at Atalanta, Kulusevski at Spurs under Conte, think of Dele Alli & Eriksen flanking Kane at Spurs under Pochettino most times when he deployed a 3-4-3, think of Mount under Tuchel not that I particularly rate him but he was one of the better players under Tuchel in that formation. Also Conte did deploy the same formation at Chelsea & Spurs and Hazard & Son did thrive significantly in it even if it was just for one season for both of them. So from all the players listed above only 3 would still function as competent wingers in a 4-2-3-1 and that would be Hazard, Son & Kulusevski. As for the 4-2-3-1 it really depends on the profile of the wide players are they Inside forwards who are geared towards goal scoring above all else like (Salah, Mane, Son, Pedro, Sterling, Gnabry, Bale, Alexis Sanchez, etc.) or are they more likely to hold the width and look for interplay, to create & or score what I consider the playmaking wide players such as (Vinicius, Hazard, Mahrez, Sane, Coman, Ribbery, Neymar, Di maria, Saka etc). In some cases where teams are lucky they can have 1 of both in each wing think of (Ribbery & Robben, Sane/Coman & Gnabry, Hazard & Pedro, Sterling & Sane/Mahrez) & in some cases they will have the same profile on both wings. So it really depends on the manager. So basically think of them in a 3-4-3 as being Creative midfielders (No. 10's) & think of them as Goal threats in a 4-2-3-1 depending on the profile of the player, it's very likely a pacey winger/trickster will struggle in a 3-4-3 because they aren't great in tight spaces seen it in the likes of Hudson-Odoi at Chelsea & Jeremy Boga at Atalanta. Certain players could thrive in both formations just depends on the skillset. So i'd expect Poch to deploy Nkunku behind the Striker in a 4-2-3-1 rather than in any of the wide positions seeing as that's the closest comparison to what he plays in Leipzig & also in a 3-4-3 because he also isn't a winger and could thrive in the half spaces & that's if he intends to get more out of Chilwell & James going forward like he did with Walker & Rose at Spurs because they are both very dangerous players. Apologies for the length wanted to be as clear as possible.

At Leverkusen playing in a 4231 as a number 10 he scored the most goals and got the most assists of his career. He hasn't played that role since joing Chelsea and has spent most of his time playing as a number 9 which isn't his best position and never was. Then people criticise him for not scoring goals.

I disagree. Football is more than how many goals a player gets. Gallagher has a great engine and does so much of the mopping up after others like Sterling lose the ball. He is also a good link player and has a decent shot on him from outside the box. Something this current team is desperate for.
