One thing I HATE about the Rumble match is the "Trash talking with your back to the ring elimination" spot. Wrestler A eliminates Wrestler B. Wrestler A stands there against the ropes and talks smack to wrestler B. Wrestler C comes up from behind and eliminates Wrestler B. And then they repeat it immediately. It's idiotic that so many guys would stand there facing the ropes during a battle royal.

Worst yet, wrestler A is trying to eliminate wrestler B, so wrester C decides the best thing to do is to prevent wrestler C from being eliminated, like wtf?! Isn't the point of the match to be the last one standing after everyone else has been eliminate? So, in what world is a good idea to prevent someone from being eliminated? (It's understandable in the case of tag team and stable mates, but outside of that is just stupid).

Exactly my thoughts. They always say, "it's your moment, you go out there and make the best of it." Then when someone does, they get their asses chewed out for it. It's like the argument Big E had with Miz about Kofi Kingston. Miz was right that Kofi never pushed for himself to get that main event spot back, but at the same time, Big E was right that Kofi was doing as he was told.

Now that Steve's gone before big problem, but Steve credits Shawn for being the ring general he was as the two look at each other and realize problem, Shawn ends up doing something like getting close enough to the esge so Steve can pull him under the rope and they can fight or something like that. But yes mistakes happen at an event like the Rumble.

The thing that always had me SUPER impressed about that botched finish is how quickly they adjusted on the fly and had the two Raw referees immediately call Batista the winner while the two Smackdown referees insisted Cena had won. If you remember, the entire gimmick going into the 2005 Rumble was Raw vs Smackdown in a "back alley brawl". We briefly had that 4v4 Raw vs Smackdown face-off halfway through the Rumble match and we also had Eric Bischoff and Teddy Long make appearances to cheer on their respective brands. So to take that overall PPV gimmick of "which brand is superior?" one step further by making a lightning quick audible using the referees to make a biased call at the end based on which of the two shows they happened to referee for was a genius move.

It's interesting to me, that it seems this new identity wrestling has become, where they admit some of the show behind the scenes is just that, a show...and are honest about predetermined outcomes, has brought a ton of fans back and created this environment of honesty where NOBODY is focused on whether it's real or not, and get to just focus on the performance. This is a breath of fresh air. I grew up in the 80's during hulkamania and got out of it in the early 2k's, but have come back since and noticed a much improved professional wrestling 👍

So you grew up during the 80s golden age and somehow missed the national headlines WWF made in 1989 when they told the New York Times that wrestling was predetermined and entertainment? 🤔

@@NoneofYabiz-rx3zi even tho it was in the times it took a decade or so for information to truly disseminate. Even most of the wrestlers kept up the act when I was losing interest around 2k. 80% of the crowd even then wanted to argue it was real 🤢 That's hardly the environment anymore, and it's a relief.

Thats wild that London got in trouble for selling Snitskys clothesline the way he did. He made himself look good by displaying his athleticism. He made Snitsky look good by accentuating the force of his clothesline. He created a moment within the match. Win, win, win. Crazy that anyone would take issue with that.

This was a very interesting and insightful video, the one time I saw live something went wrong was in 2020 when AJ Styles got injured after taking Edge's spear wrong. It would be interesting to see the sheet for that rumble to know when and by whom was AJ originally supposed to be eliminated. As a fan one could tell AJ was meant to stay longer because by the moment Luke Gallows came in, he looked so out of place. It was also evident when AJ told Corbin about his injury so he told Edge to eliminate him. I always remember that incident, but with your video I see it with a different approach and I respect the profesionalism of all the people involved. Unreleated, but love your content Maven!

It legit makes me low key upset that London got heat for that. The egos in this business over things that dont necessarily affect them have always bewildered me. If he went out and did what you said, went out at the time he was supposed to and didnt mess anything up, he shouldnt get heat. He made a moment within his guidelines thats still referenced today and he should be praised for engaging the crowd instead of somebodys ego getting bruised cause he made them look bad. Keep it up, Maven. Love your videos and your attitude about everything.
