Can we admit that if Dallas wins this series that it’s not some “changing of the guard” and that it takes either an all time great or legitimate post season experience to at least make the finals as a young player?

Before the series I chose the Mavs despite how good the Wolves are for four reasons: 1) the Mavs have the two best scorers/shotmakers in the series; 2) Luka, in particular, is immune to big-game pressure: he thrives on it: 3) the Mavs have young, springy size that has raised their level of D and match up well with Minny's size; 4) Kidd has quietly become a damn good coach.

Mavs is a bad match up for the wolves. I saw it coming even they put ant and mcdaniels they wont be able to adapt to it like facing denver and suns. The ability to score of both luka and kyrie are not ordinary. They have more diverse offense than nuggets and suns. Wolves need to try to be more physical next game and if it doesnt work. In this 3 point loss, Minnesota missed 7 free throws, going 11 of 18, on just .611 from the line. Dallas made 16 of 17, which was .941. Luka is the guard version of Joker. He knows all the little tricks of using his body to get an advantage. I guess that’s why they are both great. Their games aren’t smooth to watch, but it’s effective.

Luka is THE BEST, honestly. He was the best this season, he got 3rd cause of the record. And now he is still in the playoffs while the rest are gone. Jokic is close, but Luka is already better.

It looked to me like when Mcdaniels got caught flying out of bounds at the end of the game that he was trying to throw the ball off of Luka so it would go out off of him and Minnesota would maintain possession. That’s what it looked like to me. 🤷🏼‍♂️

Denver showed the blueprint on how to stifle Ant. They just didn't have the discipline or POA defenders to pull it off consistently. Dallas does. Kidd saw what Denver did and copied it. It worked perfectly.

I watched that game and just couldn't believe how close it was despite the fact that the Mavs were obviously demolishing the Timberwolves. The Mavs looks like a well-coordinated basketball team and I frankly wouldn't be surprised if they sweep the Timberwolves and them sweep Celtics/Pacers. I think Luka's big moment has arrived.

The Celtics aren't the Wolves. No body is sweeping Boston believe it. Tatum and Brown are better than Luka Kyrie, though because of Lukas age I'd take him first among the 4. Dallas might win the title but just saying Boston is no joke

Wolves looked every bit the squad that finished an emotional game 7 with one day less of rest over their opponent. They were kept in entirely due to their role players hitting 3s. I'm not sure this will keep up, but when even Ant looks gassed in the first quarter, they got issues from that last series.
@Ray-dl5mp
@Ray-dl5mp 26 күн бұрын
Yes I actually think it’s the opposite takeaway. Wolves were so off their game and still could have won if they played smarter down the stretch. Also both Mavs stars played near perfect at the right moments. A lot went right for the Mavs. Except for their 3 point shooting. So there is just enough going on here that I have no idea what will happen next game.

dang, Minnesota played a terrible 4th down the stretch and only lost by 3 points. Kyrie played the game of the year in the first half for Dallas and they were still down 3 points at half. Luka didn't have a particularly good night, but made baskets when they needed in the 4th. ANT and KAT need to be better but it's only game 1. Still a 50/50 series by all accounts.
@moses9647

Wolves need to pack up the drop coverage or its wraps. Both Luka and Kyrie will feast on the open mid range shots that drop coverage allows. At the same time KAT and Gobert are too slow to come to the level of the screen, theyll get blown by or gove up an easy lob. Their best bet is to double hard and make the short rollers make decisions. But Gafford and Lively and Washibngton are skilled enough to finish over whoever gets tagged on them. But its really just about oicking poison. If they keep running drop Luka and Kyrie will drop 40 each

WTF is he talking about? The Mavs drastically outplayed MIN the whole game?? I’m a Mavs fan but let’s be real.. They were -36 pts from 3’s, had less fast break pts, more TOs, less 2nd chance pts… Yes they were +24 pts in the paint but that’s bc MIN was hitting so many 3s early they weren’t scoring in the paint. To try to say the Mavs drastically outplayed MIN the whole game and barely won by 3pts is very disingenuous

Except the first quarter and 3's and steals, Dallas was significantly better : - scored more on 2nd, 3rd, 4rth - 49% FG vs 42% - 48 RBS vs 40 - 8 blocks vs 3 In this game +/- does not mean much, Luka got -9 but carried everyone in the fourth. What are you talking about ? This is just pure facts and datas
@Dzad00

@@lw1745 yes DAL had more pts in the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th quarters.. but they were only +3 in the 2nd, +2 in the 3rd, and +4 in the 4th.. that’s hardly “significantly” better. For every fact and data you gave, I gave one to prove otherwise and none of the stats you gave (except for the blocks) were “significantly” better… just slightly better.

NBA mailbag: As a fan of the show for a while now, I've noticed you will periodically allude to your "long standing" core basketball beliefs. One example of this is your critique of the Lakers' roster construction, and how one of your long standing beliefs is that teams struggle without physicality/athleticism in the front court. I would love to hear you talk about some of your most notable long standing basketball beliefs, or maybe how frequently you evaluate them and if you've ever changed your mind about any of your Basketball "paradigms", so to speak. Huge fan of the show and of your work - thanks for enriching the playoff-watching experience this year!

Denver emptied the tank against the Nuggets. It seems like they thought that Denver was the only team they felt could beat them. They can not bully the Mavs they always have 5 athletes on the floor at all time. Rudy will be benched if they wanna win this series. Dallas is playing 5 on 4 on defense, and late in the game, it is very noticeable. They want you to put Rudy with the ball.

It's funny how people view the same game.... I thought Kyrie was the best player that night and kept Dallas in the game. Luka struggled until the end of the 4th quarter, he didn't have consistency and didn't have the required intensity. Let Luka score 50 and don't bail him out with referee tricking calls. Attack Luka on defense and mix up your pick and roll coverages. I would put Kat or Reid on him and just switch all pick and rolls. Lively and Gabbert are at the rim players, make them scorers or decision makers. . If Luka hits step back all night, then well, it just is not your night. The Mav's are technically playing a zone shell defense, forcing the Timberwolves to hit 3's. I don't know if they can score enough points.

I know this is a feel out game but the Mavs defense looked really good and we already know they have a better half court offense by a considerable margin. I'm starting to believe the nuggets were fool's gold. The bench was laughable and they only have two plus defenders in their starting lineup with no second all star to speak of. The wolves have to make adjustments or this series will be short because the Mavs can shoot it way better than that from deep
