A big Thank You for an awesome video. I have graduated from a toy drone to a Bugs 2 to a Mavic Pro in three months. Can you say addicted (lol) . I am a very senior citizen that managed to mostly crash my fixed wing rc planes for years and now my MP makes me look like a hero ! I love turning the sticks over to a local kid and see them light up. Your videos are the BEST I have found. This vid in particular really has helped me with my camera settings !

Solid round up, I've been flying drones for 8 years, pro cinematographer for longer, always always always shoot at the highest res you can. In premiere in your ingest settings click the create proxies button choose the lowest res h264 this creates tiny copies of each one of your files, premiere will use these files to edit with and they are always linked to you large files and you will always export your high res files. There is also a toggle proxy button so you can take a peak at how you high res stuff looks when coloring your footage then toggle back to make you cuts. I have a beast of machine but edit stuff all the time on wimpy laptops using proxies. When you choose anything but full 4k your using less of already tiny sensor.

Phenomenal and awesome video one of the most informative for me since I'm really starting to dig into the video and camera settings. However there was one thing I would like to ask you to bring up in a future video. I've only had my mavic a month and flown about 7 times. Recently after watching your night flying tutorial which again was very helpful, I was flying and using the LED lights on the front of the Drone to keep track of my drone as I had a far up into the night sky and after going back inside my house I realized I never hit the record button. So I went back outside to shoot a another night shot of the city and after launching my drone back up into the air I must not have been looking up because I hit the record button then looked up and noticed the only thing I could see was the flashing green light. Well instantly I looked at the Mavic thinking oh my gosh I can barely see this thing and there's no red LEDs that I relied on earlier to keep track of my mavic. Well long story short I took awhile to realize that every time I press the record the red LEDs are meant to go off or turn off I should say. But before I realized all this I was thinking that my drone was broken that somehow filming out in the cold have done damage and I was in despair as I had not yet done the DJI refresh video to get the DJI refresh. So anyway if it might save some other knucklehead like myself from going into sheer panic and thinking that they're mavic is broken please mention this at a future video. Thanks so much and as always thanks for providing such a fantastic information and for taking the time to watch all those camera setting videos, it was very helpful. Oh, I also wasn't aware that this setting can be bypassed in camera settings as well as the main settings with the drone icon for those who want to attempt to film or photo with the led lights on. However I was told that you risk glare in your filming by doing so. Haven't tried it yet but I plan to. Even with my glasses on its hard as hell in pitch black to see that thing 200' or more in the air. Especially if its facing me. Thanks again and sorry for the lengthy message.

Thanks for that Tom, maybe worth checking it out!I used to fly radio control aircraft in the 80's and the only insurance you could get was via S.M.A.E, society model and Autical engineers, but that was only like a third party against injury or the like they would not cover loss or damage to the aircraft! But I will try some insurance companies here in the U.K. And see where I can go! Will let you know of outcome in the near future! Dave

Great video! Thanks for doing all the research for us!!! I’m currently using +1, -1,-1 for customs. I’d heard that the Mavic’s processor isn’t good with sharpness at zero or below. Anyone else hear that? Now, if they’d only fix the gimbal tilt wheel direction (it’s backwards!)... or give us an option to reverse it! Please DJI!!

Nice approach to resolving questions regard MP camera settings. One suggestion, though: if you are planning on showing your video on youtube, then 2720x1530 is as high as you need to go, as youtube severely downgrades the video resolution before storing/displaying it. The idea of making your footage "future proof" is a good one, so one might wish to shoot at higher resolution but at the expense of needing more storage and CPU processing power. Note also, 4096 only gives you 24 fps.

Great video. I appreciate the information in all your episodes. Very helpful. In this one you mentioned that you shoot in 30fps and look for the shutter speed to be 1/60sec as per the 180deg rule. The other option is 24fps at 1/50sec which some others recommend. Would you care to expand on this please. Thanks heaps!
@51Drones
@51Drones 6 жыл бұрын
Either one is great. It's a personal preference. I did try shooting in 24fps for a while, as many people do, but I just think it gets too soft. Supposedly it's supposed to be more "cinematic", but I just don't like it. I have mostly been shooting 30fps and using 1/60 or even 1/120 sometimes. It still turns out great for me.
@biglittlefilms4382
@biglittlefilms4382 6 жыл бұрын
We've tried 23.98 and 1/50th, does seem a little mushy. We get better results in a 24p timeline mixing with other 24p footage if we shoot 30 fps with 1/60th and just run it as is on the 24 frame TL or slow it down to 80%, that makes it look more "cinematic". Low end camera on the Mavic Pro with not enough bit rate for UHD (60 Mbps, really DJI?) so recording more fps is giving you more frames to work with = sharper perception even though it's probably not technically sharper, it looks sharper. Also, the Mavic Pro looks best with +1 sharpness to turn off the dreadful DJI NR, use Neat Video with the Film Poet presets, works great, makes the footage usable even though Neat Video is a render pig.

I've watched a bunch of Mavic Pro vids too. So what you're basically advising is to adjust the Manual Camera settings at each flight if the conditions dictate and forego Auto altogether? WB to Sunny if bright outside, Cloudy if there are any and to also tweak the ISO accordingly? Makes sense. Maybe that's why I'm not completely happy with my footage up until now. I use PolarPro ND Filters too. Not sure those are benefiting me as they should. I'll mess with your suggestions and see what works for me. I do no Post Production work and I'll try 2K. Thanks!

You’ve got the patience of a saint. Most of theses wahoos are fine tuning things that just don’t make that much dif. I get a situation where it seems that the playback appears to be skipping a frame. Like jerking ahead. The data is there but I think it’s because the default is 4K probably. When I choose lower settings, like 720 instead of the max, I get nice smooth playback.

51 Drones is there a slider for the saturation to dial down in the sharpness, landscape area? I just received mine and it’s charging. Although I am excited, I’m slightly concerned about the quality being to “warm”, and a great video Billy Kyle just put out on the distortion he is noticing. I’d check that out. Would love to hear your feedback. Thanks for replying so fast.

When looking at my color settings on the Pro 2, I only have 3 choices. Why don't I have more choices as I see in your video? I realize this clip is a few years old.

Hi Mark! Funny you should ask, I am currently making a video on micro SD cards! I always use the SanDisk Extreme Pro or Extreme Plus. You can get 64GB for less than $40, and they are very durable cards. Built for re-use again and again, and you will never experience any recording issues in 4K. Here is a link to the one I use most often: amzn.to/2EKXqu6

Tough question, as every scene is different. I have that topic on my list of future videos, so keep watching. I did post a quick tips video that touched on it if you want to view that.

Great videos! Do you have any tips on focusing the camera? It seems to be always set to near and I keep forgetting to reset. Personally I think a default of "infinity" would be better.

Thank you! I don't. I just keep tapping the screen. It was difficult to remember at first, but now it's just a habit.

Strange isn't it, that you can control nearly every other thing that you can think of (and things that you never thought of) but not the focus. Oh well.
