I like your video and your ideas to measure....However from a research standpoint, most of the results statistically insignificant...ie. no real measurable difference. Great idea to measure, however. Great video. As as quick side note, I don't think the extra money for the low noise props are worth the money because as you say, most sound levels are nearly identical above 100 feet.

Russ, this is yet another example of the quality of informative videos you produce. An awful lot of work and man hours went into all the testing you did to provide us viewers with really helpful and useful information. Unlike a lot of other well known drone channels that sound more like company infomercials, your videos sound like they are meant to educate and inform, which they do extremely well. Thanks for all your hard work. I’ve been a subscriber for almost two years but never clicked on the notification bell. I’m in the process of catching up now and even after two years of flying my P4 and MPP I’m learning a lot from all your videos. By the way, I use the low noise props that came with my MPP and I’m extremely happy with them. I have spare sets as well but never had to use them. Thanks again Russ!👍👍👍

Well done, Russ. I’m flying the MPP low noise props right now and, like you, I’m very pleased with them especially for the sound reduction in volume as well as timbre. If I were to be so lucky, I’d love to have the Master Airscrew props. I do a lot of still landscapes and timelapses which means I’m in tripod mode a lot which to my mind is a lot like a hover and I’d appreciate the extra minute or so of flight time. As always, a great video!

Great comparison of propellers. Some interesting results, however, having flown model gliders for over 40 years, and being a sailor as well, I know about wind and thermals. I would imagine "speed test" results, which were pretty close in comparison would be pretty hard to measure in an outdoor environment as wind is never constant and thermals cause dead spots so a distance run would be better done in a gym where there is no movement of air flow. Anyway, thanks for taking the time to run these prop tests, and Happy Flying

Hi Russ, I am not sure the best way tocontact you from the UK so I am just using what i believe is your last Mavic Pro youtube video. A personal very big thank you for all your Mavic pro videos and the massive amount of time you have spent over a couple of years. I have found them very helpful and I am now determined to to get back and fly my Mavic pro much more which I started this week while away on holiday on the South coast of England. I realise the Mavic Pro is now realitively old and there is now the newer 2 Pro & 3 but I will stick with what I have as it is good enough for my needs. The only issue I have is that some times a get the gimbal shake amber error but no idea why; hopefully I will find a fix somehwre on the WWW. Once again many thanks Alan

Very good comparison! When I first got my Mavic Pro I bought a complete extra set of props for spares, luckily, no crashes "yet". When the Mavic Pro Platinum came out I was very interested in a quieter Mavic! A month later after several reviews made it to KZfaq that platinum props were safe for the Pro I bought a set of those and have used them for almost every flight. If literally out in the middle of nowhere I'll use the stock otherwise I use the quiet props. I'm not interested in speed, just quietness, and stability! I wonder with the tests would the faster turning or the slower turning be the most stress, and wear on the motors? I mean, they will all wear out with time but what would work best for the longest life of those electric motors?

Thank you Russ. Great vids always enjoyed. It's good to have choices. My philosophy however, is that DJI has done all the research and if a drone comes out of the box with props, they should be assumed to be the best for that drone. I still consider myself a newbie (it's unbelievable the mistakes I make!) and have recently purchased my third and long-awaited-for Mavic Pro Platinium. I'm perfectly satisfied with the original props. I love their whisper mode (remember Airwolf?).

Hi Russ: I tend to fly using the low noise blades, the aircraft is more stable and less intrusive, which enables me to capture the action without people noticing the drone straight away. I also carry a set of the original blades, these can handle higher winds better than the low noise type. In short - slice or hack, they both have their place..! L.N.P. TIP: Get the silver tipped ones. They are less noticeable, where the gold tipped ones can be seen in the top corners.

How come it is recommended to use the iPad with cell service and not necessarily with the Smart controller?

Good video, thanks. I wonder what your results would be if you did the exact same test with a Mavic Pro Platinum which has the different controller design for it's motors. I believe the RPMs were lower on the Platinum than the older Mavic Pros. This plus the different prop profile may be the reason the Platinum has a lower pitch motor sound.

Excellent effort to quantify prop performance/quality. Thanks. One issue that might be very important but will be difficult to quantify is the impact different propellers have on the drone reliability & maintenance requirements. If a prop is impacting the rpm of the motors, that seems like it could be an indication that the drone motors are having to work harder/easier in order to hover. So what impact does that have on motor reliability? And also, I assume the carbon fiber props were created primarily to avoid prop chips and breakage. If that matters to a pilot, it could dominate their decision yet is not considered in this comparison.

Hi Russ, nice video but I miss the triple carbon propellers in your test. They are difficult to obtain. I have these triple propellers of carbon and I think these are pretty quiet but do require a lot of battery. Now I am still planning to screw the carbon props off and put the platinum on it to see if that also makes a difference. Happy New Year to every one and fly safe.

As several others have already mentioned, I tend to prefer the stock DJI props, simply because a few extra bucks is a cheap way of preventing DJI from using that as an excuse to deny a waranty claim. The results given by all of the third party props you compared don't seem to show me anything that would outweigh that concern. Also, like you, I like the sound of the low noise props best, so they would be my choice for first place. Knowledge is power though, so thanks for sharing the comparison stats!

Interesting test. I'm not so sure it is necessarily all about db level I reckon it is all to do with pitch. Even though all props came in around the same volume level they all sounded different! Perhaps the pitch is what makes the drone appear louder to the ear? I have an air and although I don't think the air is necessarily louder than the mavic the pitch is awful which makes it so conspicuous. Great test!

I stocked up on spare props when I first got my Mavic & ran into a table leg... Went with several sets of low noise props when they came out & did seem the noise level was lower...Then got a set of Master Airscrew props (orange color) to try...Liked the build & the Mavic flies great so I also got a set of black props...They work fine & I've been flying mostly with them lately... So... I've accumulated enough props to outlast several crashes and a couple more Mavic's ... The DJI low noise or Master Airscrew would be my choice...Makes no difference...Just get out & fly...

It was great to test the noise level of each prop, lower noise is a must when you don't want to attract the attention of others. As mentioned at the end, a single test will not produce an accurate result. For speed tests, big factors are wind speed, wind gusts, and wind direction at the time of each flight. As they vary, you will get different results, even with the same props. The hover tests are also a factor of battery charge. A drone will stay in the air longer if the battery maintains its charge longer, and that can be slightly different with each flight. So you can't say the hover time is a factor of the props alone. For more accurate results, these tests would have to be done 10 to 20 times each, and on different days. Then average out all the results. Yes, alot of work, but the results would be more accurate.

Until now I’ve been enjoying the low-noise props from DJI on my platinum pro, have done some insane flying with those. I find the tips are a bit soft, so I lost one pair during a risky landing on a moving boat during a waterski session. It clipped the tips off and immediately the noise got much louder, but she still flies. I also lost a pair to my cat, who decided they make a nice chew toy when I wasn’t watching. 🤦‍♂️ hahaha. Idea for a future test/video: How much damage can the props have until the drone becomes totally unflyable? Be safe, happy holidays.

Hi mate, thanks for sharing your comparison. I have a question for you, now that the Mavic 2 and Air 2 are out and both nice competitors for the Mavic Pro we own ; if I have extra propellers, will the fit as spare propellers on the Mavic 2 or the Air 2? Have you tried?

Great information. I'd prefer the low noise set.

I like the looks of the master air screw props. They all perform pretty equally.
