Everybody watching that fight came away with at least these 2 thoughts: Max Holloway is incredible and Katter is as physically and mentally tough as they come. As for no sparring, Bisping after giving Rockhold a beating said it was the easiest fight of his life and he later said having no training camp he had never felt so fresh and unhurt going into a fight before, which makes you think how hurt must he have been going into other fights, given he went into this one clinically blind. Fighters always seem to be going into fights damaged, or worse cancelling the fight . Maybe if you're experienced enough and confident enough in your own abilities it's best to do just something low impact that gets your VO2 max up like swimming, instead of a camp.

Best fight i have seen in a while

Kattar has things to fix, his lack of head movement for one. His defense was lacking, he was there all day to be hit. The numbers reflect that, although Maxs volume is a big reason for that also. He didnt let his hands go enough he was waiting a little too much just letting Max get comfortable and stay in rhythm. Kattar definitely has some things to work on. Hes got a great 1,2 and a nice uppercut but it takes more than that in the top 5. Hes obviously super tough with a lot of heart but he needs to add depth and volume to his game. Max looked like a monster, he should get the next title shot after that performance.

Felt like the entire fight Calvin was scared to pressure. He barely ever entered the pocket or threw his jab first which he usually leans heavily on. It’s like he was planning on just counter punching but wasn’t quick enough.

Here's an actual breakdown to understand why what happened: Calvin Kattar couldn't get going because Max shut his offense down by feinting the jab. So Calvin Kattar was covering up for punches that weren't even there and then he had to defend the volumne which shut him down even more. He ended up running himself into the fence where Max poured it on him even more and where he did his best work to the body with the knee and spinning back kick. Cattar's defense to a jab is usually him putting his right hand againt the left jabbing hand of his opponent. He couldn't do this because Max's jabbing hand was low cause he fought with a hands down style. If that doesn't work he usually tries to for an inside slip with a cross over the top but he couldn't do that cause Max wouldn't give him the timing cause he was feinting the jab. The jab was the punch that setup the volumne and the feint is what allowed them. Cattar's jab is one of his biggest weapons in his arsenal that he uses to setup his power punches, he has a great jab but doesn't feint it like Max. Max took that jab away by not giving Cattar the range for his jab by using in and out footwork and countering it. Cattar was doing great by timing Max for the low kick the same way Volkanovski did but he couldn't continuously do that because he couldn't get the time to do it cause he was too busy dealing with Max's offense and Max was defending them well at times because of his experience with the Volkanovski fights. The headmovement played a big factor when Calvin Kattar gave up on being technical and decided to get after it and make it a dog fight, but he failed at that too because of the headmovement. Calvin Kattar had his good moments when he hurt Max momentarily about 2 times and you saw Max stop throwing for a bit and back away. Calvin Kattar's mistake was that he didn't capitalize on that with his own volume the same way Dustin Poirier did. That side kick to the thigh too was nice by Max. Cattar is a great boxer, he's not better than Max but he's better than a lot of UFC fighters. Max was just clearly a stylistic nightmare for him. Great heart by Cattar. Beautiful performance by Max :do you guys think I should do more of these?
