Max you gotta understand people only ask because if you said "Tekken added the literal Prime Minister of Poland as a playable character" we'd have no issue believing it at this point

You won't get what "osu" means unless you do martial arts. Osu is an expression similar to "yes" or "ok" but, like as an assertive, confident and respectful way. When your sensei says "alright, 10 push ups everyone", you would yell "Osu!" It can also be used as a way to greet or thank someone.

I really like what little we see of her personality. A prime minister who’s dedicated to her country’s citizens, but possibly an even more dedicated karate(?) practitioner, to the point that she inserts Japanese phrases she learned in her training into her everyday work life. That’s immediately endearing to me, and ensures she’s not just a ”cold polititian” stereotype. Almost a shame they didn’t save her for Tekken 8/Tekken Tag Tournament 3, as she won’t get as big of a spotlight as DLC as she would as a new flagship addition in a sequel.

This girl is fighting to reclaim the lost honor that CD Projekt Red lost.

Akira doesn't even fight Karate. Jin does. And Jin's Karate is absolutely traditional. Looks a lot like Kyokushin

As a Shotokan-Karate practitioner, yes, she’s totally Karate. I’m impressed how real and faithful her moves are. Almost all of her moves and combos are taken out of actual Kata or basic techniques, also a lot of her gestures. The big circling arm movement in her Critical Art before the finishing blow is the Beginning of the Kata “Kanku dai” or “kushanku”. I also saw bits of “heian sandan” and “heian yondan”.

Fun fact: the martial art Akira Yuki does is Bajiquan a Chinese martial art.

My favorite part was Lee just hanging in the background and being Lidia’s personal hype man.

Jin used kyokushin karate. He hasn’t used his family style since 3, Akira uses baji quan, and Leroy uses Wing Chun. How he thinks she looks like the latter two is beyond me. She’s a full-on karateka.

Fun fact (because Max mentioned it a bunch of times and as a huge VF fan, I gotta say it): Akira Yuki uses Kung Fu. Specifically Baji Quan which in game uses the Japanese translation Hakkyokuken. Legitimately Kung Fu or Chinese martial arts. Not Karate. Leo uses this same style and though it's different from Akira's, it's still pretty fun. Julia Chang also uses this style but in a more modified form. Just wanted to put all that out there.

He's used traditional karate, predominantly kyokushin since Tekken 4. Akira Yuki doesn't even use karate, he uses bajiquan, which is a Chinese martial art. Get your facts straight, dood.

Today I learned: *Don’t underestimate Poland*

I train karate, and let me tell you, I havent seen a karate character look so fundamentally well. Even makoto is not karate enough due to the fantasy of Makotos karate. Literally 6:27-6:31 is 2 attacks from the Heian Sandan Kata, with one adjustment but fundamentally its the same.

The beach theme from Tekken 4 was always one of my favorite Tekken themes. I’m just happy that they brought it back (even if it is mixed with another great song to go with it).

Pretty cool to see the two styles I learned in the games now, Wing Chun and now Shotokan Karate.

So Jin is the embodiment of kyokushin karate, and along with Jean Kujo is as karate as you get in fighting game. Akira is kung fu, this girl seems to have a fused karate and kung fu style, which is sick.

Jin uses Kyokushin Karate with elements of Goju Ryu Karate. Lidia uses shotokan Karate. Kazuya and Heichachi, their Karate has elements of Shotokan but fictionalized to mix with over the top stuff.

I used to practice Traditional Shotokan so seeing someone practice it in game is awesome. I didn't even know thats how she fought until now seeing her do 'Kanku dai' in the intro.

Man the moves from the beginning of her video is a blackbelt karatê kata called Kanku Dai, it’s so dope to see her style be all based in karatê! Now I wanna play tekken!

I swear this character's move style remind me of Virtua Fighter's Akira and Dead or Alive's Ein/Hitomi..

I know we don't speak of DoA anymore, but with the additional "Osu" at the end on top of the super similar moveset, it's hard for me not to think of Hitomi.

Man, I was so happy to hear the remix version of Poolside from Tekken 5. Aside of Moonlight theme, Poolside daytime theme is my absolute favorite. So awesome.

I like the touch that the trailer is her Shadow boxing with part of the Tekken cast. It highlights how focused she is, doesn't butthurt any fans, and hints that even as a politician she's still a martial artist at heart.

I think the lore behind Jin’s fighting style was: He was first trained briefly in his mothers ‘Kazama style’ karate as a child. He was then taken in by Heihachi following Juns death and trained in ‘Mishima style’ karate with a hint of Kazama style (Tekken 3). After T3 he despised the Mishima bloodline and everything baring it’s monicker. He purge himself of even the fighting style and went to Australia to learn traditional Karate while still incorporating his mother’s

On the beach she is doing a Kyokushin kata. and @3:35 when she says "I must win for the people of Poland" she ends with OSU! which is also from Kyokushin.

I'm not an expert but as far as I am aware the term OSU is shortened word for a Japanese greeting basically. But in Japanese martial arts it used as greeting, acknowledgement, before and after fights. Can be used as a "Hello" or a "Yes, sir". Before a fight it is sort of a respectful challenge "Please fight me". And after a fight or an attack it is like a "Thank you for this fight" or "Thanks for letting me hit you" Lots of meanings. Probably lost in translation as it traveled the world and schools
