The problem might be that if Lewis and Alonso are having average days, then Max on his own is worth half a second over the other good drivers in the field. While it's hard to get a direct comparison, Ocon is the best bet. He was broadly in line with Perez and now Gasly when they were teammates. He was maybe 0.20 off alonso over the time they were teammates, sometimes more sometimes less but on average 0.2. Max was 0.75 faster than Gasly, is 0.6 faster than Perez (on average). The only person that was close to him was Danny Ric in his prime, while Max was a very young rookie, basically a schoolboy racing against men. On their day in a championship contender, I don't doubt Lewis and Alonso could match Max, but as they get older, those days will come less and less. At the moment, it's like tennis when Federer and Nadal got too old to consistently keep up with Djokovic. He just won everything.

@@donaldfarquarLewis couldn’t match max in a much faster car. Him and bottas literally crashed him out 3 times (rear ending him) and Lewis would run wide on purpose to crash him. Lewis isn’t that great of a driver unless he’s in the best of the best car. He’s top midfield driver.

@Jerryattrickliverspottedhands cause strolls actually a mice guy who gets on well with his teammates and the grid in general. He's also not as bad a driver as a lot of us like to portray him as. Aside from the whole, daddy buying him a team and multiple world champions to teach him and probably not seeming to mean as much to him as the other drivers (although we can only assume there)... aside from all that he seems like a pretty chilled guy that gets on well with those around him and he seems to be aware he's been gifted job security nobody else gets and gets more chances, less pressure. Tho I can only imagine what different sort of pressures may come from your dad being your boss and not being able to have real away time from his work, and being put next to former world champions and compared to them in recent years. He also had one of the best rookie seasons of all time statistically which always surprises me to remember! To be fair to ocon, people do say he's absolutely lovely off the track and away from the work dynamics, but beyond competitive in the car and very aggressive defensive around racing generally. Which I can kind of understand since he's one of very few on the grid who didn't come from decent wealth and family had to sacrifice enormously for him, so can only imagine the pressure to deliver and prove it worth it and pay his family back for their sacrifice. And losing his seat to lance and realising how fast it can all slip away. I can understand a bit of desperation in his behaviour to cling on. But it does make him rather unlikeable in how he treats acts with his teammates and never really ending a partnership without issues. Especially when he's had teammates that are well liked. But people do say he's one of the nicest guys to exist when he's away from the racing. Whereas lance is quite the contrast on that since he's shown very mature, respectful and collaborative relationships with teammates and its definitely helped his image that Fernando likes him a lot and Charles saying he's one of his best friends on the grid. Theyre a funny comparison since thehre so opposite in a lot of ways. People are put off lance because of his immense priviledge, but like he's a great teammate that gets on well with everyone. While ocon comes from comparatively low priviledge, which makes people respect him for working harder to make it, and that he appreciates all his family sacrificed so much (which made him come off really well in the DTS episode on his background and got him supporters or sympathisers at least). And that he lost a seat essentially because of lances priviledge helps ocons cause but hinders lances ofc. But in contrast to lance he has a terrible reputation for how he acts in the car and treats his teammates. Though people do rate his skills and how hard he works and respect how desperately he wants it compared to the sentiment lance doesn't want or appreciate his F1 shot as much as others. But then theyre both considered lovely easy going guys away from racing. It really is an interesting comparison you picked!

@@ehrlichgesagt863 Ricc and Tsunoda were exactly 10 seconds apart after their final pitstops. Ricc had to overtake Albon on the first straight (no problem) and sat behind Hulk for a lap or two before Hulk pitted again. Ricc cleared about 8 seconds to Yuki in 8 laps regardless of Albon and Hulk before he latched on. Yuki was 1 to 2 seconds behind Kmag for the same amount of laps proving no superior pace to the Haas until AFTER the swap was ordered on lap 50 where he finally got into Kmag's DRS. Because Yuki ignored orders, Max caught up to this group and this resulted in Max ironically giving Kmag a tow and DRS to catch up to Zhou.. which basically turned the group in a Zhou DRS-train for the remaining three laps. Had Yuki let Ricc pass sooner, he would've had better tyrelife to overtake Magnussen (who wouldn't have had the DRS advantage from being close to Zhou yet) - and could've potentially picked up Zhou once Max lapped him. Here's the kicker: Ricc's engineer thought Zhou was p10. So the swap was mandated on the belief that Ricc could pass Kmag and Zhou (both on old Hards) for a points finish.. But he messed up, because Zhou was p11.

Talk to them about what is was like being at Abu Dhabi witnessing “the robbery” asking Lewis how absolutely frustrated he must be since then. And all this goes on at a round table. And we can hear their tone of voice, and the way they respond to certain things. All in a relaxed environment where they can speak their mind.
