The history of the mansion The history of the house, later known as the P.P.Smirnov's mansion, begins with a mention in the Moscow archives in 1759. At that time, the mansion belonged to Vasily Vasilyevich Istlentiev, a captain of the Horse Guards. Since then, the house has changed hands many times and was often rebuilt. At various times, it was owned by well-known people at one time - Chamberlain Lieutenant General Alexander Grigorievich Petrovo-Solovovo, Chamberlain Count Vladimir Grigorievich Orlov, Collegiate Counselor Gavriil Petrovich Apukhtin, Chamber Junker O.I. Garchakova, Chamberlain and Collegiate Counselor P.A. Bazilevsky. Pyotr Petrovich Smirnov (1868-1910) - director and eldest son of the founder of the trading house “P. A. Smirnov in Moscow ”, acquired the estate in 1900 from the hereditary honorary citizen NP Malyutin. Smirnov became the owner not only of the house located directly on Tverskoy Boulevard, but also of the entire household, which included several more buildings in the yard. entrusted to the genius Russian architect of the Art Nouveau era and painter Fyodor Osipovich Shekhtel. The work lasted 5 years. The architect did not destroy what was in the house before him, but tried to rethink it. Shekhtel decided to leave the bizarre multi-level interior arrangement of the house, but removed the partitions that connected the left and right wings with the house, thereby increasing the area of ​​living quarters. All the outbuildings and wings of the building were united under one facade, and behind its visible modesty, a magnificent interior in the Art Nouveau style was hidden.
