@@sairamr6886 it was a minor infraction really - the wing passed the test towards the centreline but failed marginally towards the edge. Not worth the 4 tenths he was on pole by. @@pjb2960 While I agree that the margins were most likely very small, assuming that is the only performance gained is disingenuous. The test is essentially applying a set force to the wing with a precise instrument set to the maximum allowed width. It either passes or it doesn't. As you correctly point out, it didn't fail all tests, only the new one introduced to prevent teams from using overly flexible wings which bent more than FIA liked under load. We cannot assume how influential this change is at top speed where the mercs excelled. Lastly, whether victims of chance (I believe merc were quoted as saying it simply wasn't installed correctly) or malice, the teams knew the regulations. In real life you always have to deal with tolerances and deviations for engineering. Playing too close to the edge sometimes bites you. TL:DR quoting margins of failure in a test that is essentially pass/fail with the instrument misrepresents the situation.

Give Lando a break. Once he's had that first win, he'll be a lot calmer. Just put yourself in his shoes for a moment. He'd driven a perfect race, looked after his tyres at the start, kept a 7 time world champion behind him for the majority of the race and all of a sudden it started spitting with rain. He made his stay out decision based on what he knew and what he was told, and then he realised he was too late to change the tyres and win when the rain just dumped down on him. His composure and decisive driving keeps him and others safe by being too fast to mingle with in the most difficult conditions. The most impressive thing is actually not on this video. Max makes the decision to box a couple of seconds before this. While he is the one keeping the car on track as others go off. The only one as quick as him is Leclerc. Who decides to continue. Max has the perfect feel when to pit. That brings him P2 in this race. All others have easier decisions to make, or make worse decisions. HAM pits 'opposite to NOR'. Lando makes the wrong call. Sainz and Ricciardo were off allready, Bottas and Raikkonen went early because they had nothing to lose. The moment Verstappen tells his team that he thinks they are 'losing time one this tyres', that is where he wins the championship.

@@charlieknight4521 And Max was on a way less downforce setup than any midfield/top runner, which makes it extremely difficult in the wet, especially on slicks. Less downforce = less grip = less heat on tyres = way harder.

Max: “Heavy rain here, mate. Heavy rain.” GL: “Copy, mate. Copy. Keep it on the black stuff.” …..idk why but that quick back and forth is just my favorite. I’ve watched this at least 4 times haha.

The radio is delayed few seconds behind the video. Look at the time between Max pressing the radio button (red light on the left of the wheel) and the sound of him speaking.

I can't believe anyone can drive this fast and smooth in the rain. Incredible wet traction. He finished with less enthusiasm than I do getting home during a Houston storm.
О, сосисочки! (Или корейская уличная еда?)
