Max Verstappen 'Save of the Century' with Slow Motions.
Here the video of Max Verstappen who amazingly saves his F1-car
at high speed at the Interlagos circuit in São Paulo in Brazil 2016.

another Max Verstappen video that i made at the Red Bull Ring in Austria, 2016 :
• F1 Austria 2016, Suppo...
enjoy !!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I am an F1-fan already a long time,
I just love and enjoy watching this sport !!
I've been watching Senna those days already.
So, it's NOT the so-called 'Max-Hype' that i'm part of.
Yes...... I support Verstappen,
BUT !!! That is MAINLY BECAUSE of his results,
his style and his character he has shown to the world.
And yes.... of course it's kinda fun for me that he's
also from the Netherlands like myself.
We all are excited and curious what the next season will bring,
with ALL those AMAZING F1-drivers out there !!

It's only when it gets to the slow motion do you realize how it was more skill than luck. The opposite lock when it was needed, the straight steering wheel and brakes on to drain momentum out of the slide then the return to some lock and brakes off when it was clear that he'd be able to start getting some car rotation again. That was 95% skill.

What I find impressive is that he doesn't hit the brakes immediately when the rear steps out and he steers into the slide. He only hits the brakes much later and immediately starts to put the steering wheel straight. And of course, releasing the brakes again and hitting the throttle to regain directional control was craftsmanship as well. Bear this in mind when you look at some of the 2019 German GP crashes in the wet. I think that there was more skill involved than he admitted on TV.

i dont understand how people don't understand that there IS more traction "off line" when its wet, especially people who are apart of the sport. "he goes right around the outside where there is dirt and rubish, he thinks he has more grip" He doesnt THINK he has more grip he HAS more grip. He didn't spin till he crossed over the dry racing line and lost that grip.

It depends.. Sometimes there's just more water outside the racing line because less cars are going over it, and less water is displaced from that section of the track
@jakecole7447
@jakecole7447 7 жыл бұрын
The depending factor is that on the racing line there is a nice thick layer of rubber from the tires ontop of the Asphalt. That provides even more traction in dry conditions, But becomes slippery as hell in wet conditions, while the tires can grip into the fresh asphalt on the outer line.
@TeqHDcasper
@TeqHDcasper 7 жыл бұрын
The rubber got stuck on the normal racing line, And driving on that rubber on the wet gives less grip. But on the dry its the other way around
@TigeroL42

That was fucking incredible... steering locked, no power and car still keeps spinning so what do you do? Lock the brakes, straighten steering and let the natural rear-balanced grip of the car take over and then in matter of nanoseconds correct the whip as traction comes back over. All this in less than a second. I mean what the fuck?! :D It's not like even pro racing drivers have these kinds of manouvers on their 'muscle memory', right?

They just feel the car, and now exactly how it will react to any throttle, brake or steering touch. This is pure subconsious. BUT that's why he is one of the biggest racing talents ever. Especially the in car cam showed the moment he started steering again and the trothle reaction are 1 nanosecond perfect.

They obviously do have these skills and instincts ingrained in them. There's a reason they're professional racing drivers and that's how they make saves like these. 😅
@EXQCmoi
@EXQCmoi 7 жыл бұрын
Max did at least four things brilliantly. First at 2:10 put het wheel straight (which is counter-intuitive), than picking the right moment to slightly turn it to the right to regain grip. Here he 's bit lucky because you depend on the given space (but the given space is defined by the barrier as well as the timing of his first move). Third, make a correction (2:38) to this correction to avoind spinnig around after all. An at last not say Hail Maria and loose a second, but regain speed as fast as possible. Most driver would have given up at the very first moment.
@justinnitsuj7041
@justinnitsuj7041 7 жыл бұрын
I'd add that the brakes...and releasing them WAS THE PERFECT timing. The steering wheel bit is easy ...particularly in rain... he released the brake exactly when the momentum of the car towards the wall could be over come by the traction of the tires...imo seemingly he played it safe; holding the locked wheels until he was positive the traction would "hold" the remaining momentum towards the wall...evident in how the vehicle "snaps" back to just forward momentum...likely using the distance to the wall as the marker for releasing the brakes.

Charlie Smythe yeah, sure, luck...nothing to do with skill. I am sure you could have done it. Nothing to do with steering into the slide, then locking the brakes and turning the wheels back to straight and letting rear tyres' greater grip correct the car position, then steering right again and pushing the accelerator just in time to help the car get away from the wall. Absolutely nothing. Just luck.

That's why steering wheels in rallye cars have a marking for straight forward. On override the car is facing to much into the curve, but it slides to the outside. So if you try to correct, you will change this, but think a moment, about it. If you slide outside on the curve, but facing inside the curve, that is exactly what rallye cars are doing in curves. So steering straight forward, the car slides to outside of the curve and it will correct it position itself. And on the right point you start "simply" driving forward. Watch the video Atje has posted. Here it helps, that the back of the car gets slower than the front in sliding and turns itself in the right direction. I think this comes of higher weight and bigger tires in the back, because on sliding sideways the aerodynamics (wings) don't count. The trick is to open breaks at the exact perfect moment. If you do it to early or to late the tires get grip and will backfire in the opposite direction. Often seen on dash cam vids. So open breaks only if the car is facing in the right direction with front wheels in the right direction, otherwise keep breaking until complete stop.
@vedranb87
@vedranb87 3 жыл бұрын
Actually when I think about it, higher mass in the back is resisting change more than the front, so if the wheels were the same size, he would spin out the wrong way. What is crucial is there is more rubber in contact with the surface in the back, generating more friction.

While other F1 drivers panic when they spin out of controll, Max looks up the limits so often that he is essentially used to situations like this and learned how to get controll back. He really does everything perfect right after the car lost track.
@Sasian11
@Sasian11 7 жыл бұрын
Very impressive! You can see the car starts to correct itself while the wheels are still locked and pointed straight ahead. I think what happened is that the larger rear tires and the heavier rear end caused the rear tires to grip more/earlier, causing the front end to swing forward, at which point he catches it and regains control. I think on some level he understood this in the moment, allowing him to react perfectly to the situation.

Remember kids. This can be applied when drifting around corners in the snow. If your ass end goes a bit too far and you run out of steering, lock the brakes. Instead of following the line inwards and into the ditch, your vehicle will continue straight as the wheels now act as sleds. With any luck, your ass end wheels will grab the snow and pull you straight and you can carry on. Otherwise, just modulate brakes to keep yourself out of a ditch. Source: Snow goon.

yeah Alonso... you can't compare at this moment. (even after two years) This was the first season of VER @ Red Bull.. After 5 pits, coming from pit @ 16th, he finished 3rd. And please don't say he had newer tires, cause the decradation in extreme wet conditions is minimal. Don't get me wrong Alonso is absolutly one of the greatest drivers, with an unfortunately ending @ mclaren. We will see after 10 years how things worked out.

Just have a look at the onboard of the spin in Australia 2018! He just confirms his masterly skills ones again. P.e.: Of all the things he has to do in only a split second, he also has to shift down 4 times, normally he shifts whit his left hand, but now he does that whit his right hand, because his steering wheel is in a 180° position. No luck involved there. Which other driver would/could have done the same?! Arguably NO one!

that's the only downside of f1 is they rely on downforce so much that when the car starts to go side ways they tend to loose all downforce and the car is so light it just looses almost all control
