Recently, I finished playing my first ever Final Fantasy game, and it was FFX. WOW... and there are several more of these games that people cherish to death? I can't wait to get into FF6, 7, 8, and 9 (those are the ones everybody is telling me to play). If they have the same amount of underlying religious and psychological symbolism, then you guys are in for some serious treats in the near future. I had so much fun investigating this game... and I hope that you like the secrets I might've uncovered about FFX's influences.

The puzzles where tedious as fuck, boring and bad. Tge game is like 65% fucking cut scenes, overly cheesy dialog and uninspired antagonists. Not that great all in all. Ff12 was better.
@KrazyEngima
@KrazyEngima Жыл бұрын
@@theprinceofallsaiyans_vegita I personally feel ff12 was the last truly good one. The only thing I ever will dislike about it is Vaan and Penelo being main characters. Would've rather played the game from the perspective of Ashe or Balthier and wound up with more memorable and interesting characters in the party like Reddas, Vossler, or Larsa lol but I love it nonetheless.

@Valkyrie ALTER My parents gifted me FFX-2, after loving and playing FFX everyday. I remember the FFX-2 intro making me ultra embarrassed as a kid. I see what they tried to make with this game, great ATB combat but rest of this game feels off, unfocused and wrong. Never touched FFX-2 after buying the HD collection.

@@extradipboneless I hated FFX-2 at the time because I was expecting a faithful continuation of the FFX storyline - years later though I had long since come to terms with the fact that it was just a fan service game, and I picked it up again and enjoyed it very much for what it was. It will never tell a great story, but there is plenty of fun to be had along the way.

@@The4thSnake- Oh yeah, you did talk about FF VII. It was quite a while ago too. I’m shocked that you didn’t gravitate towards the Final Fantasy Universe, especially since you love games with very good story telling. The franchise does have a pretty good number of great Final Fantasy games with unforgettable stories, characters and music. The franchise isn’t for everyone though, but if you ever find yourself wanting to give another Final Fantasy game a chance that isn’t Final Fantasy VII, then in my opinion, you certainly have to play Final Fantasy VI. I’ve known a lot of people that don’t play RPG’s at all, they would strictly be FPS gamers, or fighting game players, and all it took was playing just one random Final Fantasy game between 1 and 12, and immediately they would become fans and ask which FF should they play next.

Xenogears is pure unadulterated Gnosticism to the point that it comes off as gibberish to the layperson. @@dmgdisciple9680 they are! they're just waaay faster but that's basically what frame game is all about, knowing who's turn is it and trying not to squander yours. FFX in fact displays "recovery frame data" with the turn bar on the side. Huh, this makes me realize that you'd probably have a field day with any of the main series Shin Megami Tensei games, where you battle "demons" (which run the gamut from demons, cryptids, monsters and deities) and fight towards either law (rigid, structured control) and usually fight Satan or another similar demon at the end, or chaos (limitless, hedonistic freedom) where you almost always wind up fighting Yaweh as the final boss

So many damn sleep overs just playing those mini games, it's hard to believe how much time has past since. X on the other hand was a completely different experience. Those same cousins stayed with us for a few weeks and I remember how excited we all were to play another Final Fantasy game except on the PS2 this time. I could go on and on, but there are countless moments where we all just sat in silence taking in the new music and the visuals. It was a completely different feel from VII, which honestly I always liked about the series. Plus the Blitz Ball theme was a BANGER! Also we laughed our asses off at 0:50 when Auron gets sucked into the portal! 💎

I'm so glad you played this, and I learned something new! Incidentally, there is an entity similar to aeons (primals) in Final Fantasy XIV called Sophia. Her theme tune during the fight mentions gnosticism in the lyrics, and she summons a disembodied head called a Demiurge during the fight. Her theme seemed to be about maintaining balance and order, and she has a lot of iconography of weighing scales. I'd love to see what you make of Final Fantasy IX if you ever get the chance to play it. It's a slower burn than FFX initially and takes a while for the scale of the story to become apparent, but it has surprisingly deep themes despite its whimsical art style

Ironically with all the FFXIV attempts to deconstruct mythology, The Mother Crystal in FFXIV is ended up representing Pistis Sophia's role in FFXIV, just beforehand when a boss actually named Sophia is reduced into a major enemy Also Final Fantasy games will never escape Gnosticism, as Final Fantasy (and SMT/Persona) series relies on breaking the yoke of Fate and corrupt divinities, much like how Sethian Gnostic sects' narratives pertains to go for

FF 10 is arguably the best introduction to the turn based games, its not too rough and allows you to see what effects the turns ect.

Thank you for getting into my favorite series of all time. This was one of the 3 games, besides the love of my family and friends of course, that helped prevented my suicide and getting through my sadness after my father and grandparents died. FF9 was the last gift my dad gave me before he passed, if you ever play it, I hope that it is wonderful for you too. The Melody of Life. Edit: Also speaking on Gnosticism, if you ever want to get into the most Gnostic game I personally have ever seen there's the Xenogears and Xenosaga franchise. I would not recommend playing them, but watching/reading about them. That series mixed with FF9 and the thoughts, ideas, and emotions that went into them gave me a perspective that highly increased my value of life as a whole since I was a child.

Really enjoyed this video, ffx is one of my all time favourites and this video about the mythology behind the in-game lore was fascinating. If you're looking for other turn based games with deep lore and similar themes, persona 5 or persona 5 royal are amazing (but extremely time consuming) games with a deep mythos and really fun gameplay. My first anime style game, but so so good.

Wiki is always welcomed, long as there's some extra checks in said wiki But with that said, this was really insightful! It's given me lots of food for thought on other games, and this adds more story elements to FF15 ngl. All around FF seems to touch this lore a lot, and hearing where the summons got their names, why- Id love a Playthrough that just threw stuff like that in! Or even quick run down videos dhjfjfdhj This video's given me lots to chew on

This my JAM right here! FFX was my first and still favorite FF. I enjoyed some of the DS titles like tactics and VII Japanese edition. But nothing and no other RPG has ever done it for me like FFX. I love the music, the game play style, the story mesmerized me. I literally fell for Yuna and Lulu is so goth I LOVE it! Auron was the perfect stoic balance the the other characters. I just love this game. I'm so glad I got to play it on the original PS2 back in the day when it came out. The only problem I have is for another FF to live up to this one for me. I hear a lot of people feel that way about their first FF. I'm glad mine was THIS one. I can't imagine being disappointed with this one.

Awesome vid and analysis. Now you know, that even that turn-based games might have some of the greatest stories ever told. If you buy a little into the complex mythology, you should continue playing Persona 4. It's a great game, really. The Shin Megami Tensei series has some very intriguing mythos and Persona 4 specially has strong undertones of Japanese mythology (but the series as a whole dips in almost every mythology). I would love seeing your analysis of it.

Anxiously awaiting a Xenogears video... Anywho, Xenogears is far beyond the Final Fantasy games in terms of religious/spiritual and psychological symbolism and exploration. It will definitely be on your top 5 most profound games list. A rather deep and thought provoking gem of a game, despite being rushed/unfinished and gameplay being decent at best. There are written works further expanding and explaining the narrative and subtext too, basically the ultimania, of which being "Perfect Works". Fun fact: Xenogears' premise was pitched to Sakaguchi for FF7 but was deemed too controversial for a mass audience. The story behind its development is very interesting as well.

Late to the party, but as a huge FF fan as well as FFX fan, this was well done. And now that you don't hate turn-based combat I would recommend the Xenosaga series. It is very niche but has a lot of religious symbolism in it. I don't think the gameplay of that trilogy is as good as FFX but even just watching the cutscenes on youtube may be worth it. I plan to analyze it myself someday but you are someone I look up to for game analysis. Hope you enjoy many other great RPGs. ^^
