When I started investing last year, I avoided significant mistakes. I've focused on investing modest sums in stable businesses for the long term. If stocks perform well, I hold onto them; otherwise, I reinvest losses into profits. Recently, I made $9.5k from a $4k investment in NVIDIA.

Exactly, a good number of people discredit the effectiveness of financial advisor, but over the past 10years, I’ve had a financial advisor consistently restructure and diversify my portfolio/expenses and I’ve made over $3million in gains… might not be a lot but i'm financially secure and that's fine by me.

Due to my demanding job, I lack the time to thoroughly assess my investments and analyze individual stocks. Consequently, for the past seven years, I have enlisted the services of a fiduciary who actively manages my portfolio to adapt to the current market conditions. This strategy has allowed me to navigate the financial landscape successfully, making informed decisions on when to buy and sell. So yes i think every investor should consider a similar approach.

I would think that a major benefit of dividend investing is that calculating portfolio size needed is not relevant. We don't care about the value of the portfolio. We care about the sustainable income it pays. As you invest you can gradually see the income rise as you invest more and pull the retirement trigger when it's high enough regardless of the market sentiment.
@jcurdrayeric2435 ай бұрын
Calculating the portfolio size needed is very relevant. - How else do you know how much to contribute?
@joshbarney1145 ай бұрын
By calculating how much additional income the contributions produce and estimating how that income rises. the capital value will fluctuate up and down over time so the amount of income new additions give you varies. so capital value being high with a market yielding 2% is no worse for retirement than the same portfolio at a different timepoints where the capital value is half and so the yield is 4%. so long as the yield is sustainable in real terms the capital value being half does not matter. its the same income stream at a different moment of low market sentiment vs high market sentiment.

I agree, that's the more reason I prefer my day to day investment decisions being guided by an advisor, seeing that their entire skillset is built around going long and short at the same time both employing risk for its asymmetrical upside and laying off risk as a hedge against the inevitable downward turns, coupled with the exclusive information/analysis they have, it's near impossible to not out-perform, been using my advisor for over 2years+ and I've netted over 2.8million.

My dividend journey began when I realized that two particular expenses in my budget were always going to go up and never go down. The two expenses were taxes and insurance. I realized that the dramatic rise in both will need some added income. So, I started buying shares paying dividends. I can now see that this will be the path I need to take to make sure those two expenses will not overtake my future income.

Yes, I've been in constant touch with a Financial Analyst for approximately 8 months. You know, these days it's really easy to buy into trending stocks, but the task is determining when to sell or keep. That's where my manager comes in, to help me with entry and exit points in the industries I'm engaged in. Can’t say I regret it, I’m 40% up in profits just in 5months with my initial capital of $160k

I like investing in close-end funds that pay monthly dividends. The trick is to hold long term and reinvest the monthly dividends plus buy more shares on a monthly basis or when ever you can afford to. This can be easily done because close-end funds are bought and sold on the stock market just like regular stock. That’d be enough to create a portfolio that would pay you between $50k to $70k in dividend income

I completely agree; I am 60 years old, recently retired, and have approximately $1,250,000 in external retirement funds. Whats the most common winning investment strategy for a new beginner?
@femo666 ай бұрын
Hi Nicole, that is not so difficult. 1. Most important is to START (timing the market will never beat time in the market) 2. Start simple, for example with Index Funds or better Index ETF‘s on the whole market like (VTI) 3. maybe add some international exposure like (VXUS) i would go with 80 (VTI) and 20 (VXUS) for starters. That is a great start for a beginner…..these are Vanguard examples, i like them because they have extremely low cost and the company is well known stable and established. you can of course get similar products from others like Blackrock, Fidelity and the likes if you prefer. Have a great start !

If someone just invests 148,792 usd (the same ammont you had in the 20 year mark) it would take them "only" 10 years to reach the 4,489,523 usd???? Is this a correct way of thinking?
@Johnsmoneyadventures6 ай бұрын
It won't reach 4,489,523, but it will be close to it. This is because the dividend growth rate had a greater effect over 20 years than 10 years alone.
@vmcastro866 ай бұрын
I had the same thought. Don’t understand why you wont have 4,489,523 if you are starting at the 20 year mark. Do you get a different rate of return the longer you hold, such as hitting a milestone? Or does your estimate account for up to 39 years. Just trying to understand being that I was looking into jumping on the 10 or 20 year price point. Thanks

I lost over $80k when everything started to tank. Not because I was in an exchange that went belly up. I was just stupid to hold and because that's what everyone said. I'm still responsible. It just taught me to be a better investor now that I understand more of what could go wrong. It took me over two years of being in the market, I'm really grateful I found one source to recover my money, at least $10k profits weekly. Thanks Charlotte Miller
