They used to do that to us in basic training along with mule kicks, flutter kicks, and good old fashioned push ups for punishment. The only difference is heels of the ground and arms straight out. If you drop your arms you just earned more time and probably a blanket party. We called it getting smoked.

eh, with weights on your lap they become a Siberian torture method very quickly. Especially running 5+ miles (cross country) doing weight room and then ending with them def hurts a lot.

When I fractured my knee not too long ago they made me do this exercise as a way to strengthen back the bones, something along the lines of that. Is it actually bad for your ligaments or are you just saying this out of your arse?
