I had the pleasure of playing a year with Cedric at UNCC in the 73-74 season. I was on the JV team and he was varsity as a freshman but we practiced together and he was an incredible talent. Melvin Watkins, Robert Earl Blue, George Jackson (10), Bob Ball and the list goes on. Memories that I have carried for 50 years. Thanks to all.

Kevin Garnett is not even close to being the best all around player the Celtics had. KG isn’t really even a Boston Celtic. He essentially rented a championship with Ray Allen and Paul Pierce. He’s a Minnesota Timberwolf, and always will be. Larry Bird is far and away the best all-around player the Celtics ever had, no contest.

I love your podcast but I have to disagree with your take on LeBron James. The NBA and LeBron totally missed what could have been LeBron James’s Muhammad Ali moment. He could have spoken up for truly oppressed people ( the Uyghurs ) effectively slaves working at forced labor for the Chinese communist party and Nike. Instead, they chose to take a knee to Chinese communist party and not speak out on the Uyghurs behalf and continue to profit and shill for Nike while this truly discriminated minority continues to suffer. All for the sake of the almighty dollar! Shame on them!

I don’t agree with coming down on mike about selling the shoes early. The only thing that was exposed was that the people wanting to buy shoes had plenty of cash to buy shoes but couldn’t afford a mask. It just tells me the morals and values system is broken. Nobody cared about spreading deadly diseases. Only those shoes mattered. That’s not good parenting folks. You can do better. And im not even a jordan fan. People have to learn how to be responsible for their own actions. You shouldn’t blame mike cedric. But i do see the perspective you see it from. I love your podcasts man you are a true nba star.

Cornbread was talkin' some stuff about Bird back in the day. The greatest farce in sports individual awards of all-time was the league giving the Finals MVP to Maxwell in 1981. He had a nice final game in the series and got kinda hot in the only game I can remember where Larry was off a little offensively, but that was Bird's trophy. 15 Pts-15 Reb-7 Ast-3 stls/game vs. 17-8-3-2 Blks? Maxwell had some great moments, but didn't deserve to have his number 31 retired for a 7 year Celtics career . He was named '81 Finals MVP and played an outstanding game 7 vs the Lakers in '84. The following year he got injured early and basically quit on the Celtics because he wanted a new deal. This left them a with a very lean bench in the finals loss to LA.

@dpatrick5164 Жыл бұрын
Simple solution that preserves the best of both approaches. Limit the # of 3 point goals per game. Maybe 3 per game would be about right. Use them early or save them for the 4th quarter. Take as many from beyond the line as you like. But after the third one, it only scores 2 points. That preserves the 3 point shot for critical moments, but returns the importance of the post up game and the paint. You can at any time get 3 points from a 2 in the paint + 1 from the foul line. That also gets a foul on your opponent. That keeps the importance of the 3 point line, and returns the importance of the post up game.

Well the Celtics felt like he gave up on the team, that's why they traded him, after the 85 season, he had a supposed nagging injury that kept him sidelined for awhile and when the team doctor cleared him to played, he still said he couldn't, that's the story I heard anyway.
@justanotherguy1794

@@Mrd9960 The way I heard HIM describe it was that he was having trouble with the injury and that his personality was kind of low key and not inclined to making a big deal about what he was going through, but that he was working on it and trying to get better. He became aware of some of his teammates' judgments that he wasn't taking it seriously or working hard enough and that he'd given up and he insisted there wasn't anything to it. Misperceptions. I believe him. The amount of bragging and self promotion he does on these shows substantiates how important his career and achievements were to him and that he wasn't inclined to giving up on himself or his team. I have nothing against him as a player: I've seen him on KZfaq, mostly, but he seems great. I suspect that if he'd been around when Mychal Thompson showed up, the Cs would've done a lot better in '87, but that's just from watching tape of the games. In any case, I'm not a big fan of the humble brag and Maxwell seems to have perfected it. Cringe.

Cedric played for and currently works for an organization he likes to throw under the bus at the drop of a dime. Boston does have some ugly race history, there is no denying that fact. How many times can this be acknowledged before everyone is satisfied? Boston is one of the most progressive woke cities in the country. Believe me, they’ll due their self-flogging for everyone to see just so they can show the world how enlightened they’ve become. Red drafted the first black player into the NBA. Red had the first all-black starting five in the league in the mid 1960’s. He hired the first black head coach in Russell. This was done in BOSTON! Bill Russell had some terrible things done to him while living in Boston. The team faced racism on the road and they still managed to win 11 titles with Russell. You can’t stop all racism any more than you can stop the wind from blowing. There will always be fools of all races ready to stir the pot.
