I love how Fran honors Sarah's memory by having the kids watch home videos and lighting a candle to guide her way. My favorite scene is how Fran corrected CC when she accidentally called her Sally, showing that Fran had so much respect for Sarah even though she never met her.

Fran, like many stepparents that fill the role of deceased parents, knows that she could never replace Sarah but that she can be there for the kids and guide them through tough times, like when Maggie thought she was pregnant and when she meets the kids for the first time and they were still grieving over their mom.

And the honoring the departed actually starts in the pilot episode. Of you notice the first breakfast scene, they keep the seat at the dining room table empty, which is a Jewish tradition.

They handled this quite beautifully. It is very realistic: many people whose spouses have passed away often feel guilty when they fall in love again, especially if their first marriage was a happy one. Although The Nanny is fictional, it was wonderful how the children (and Max) knew that Fran could never replace Sarah; Fran's romance with Max was entirely different but still special.

It was also lovely that Fran not only never tried to replace Sarah, she encouraged them all to talk about her and listened when they did. There was no jealousy or being uncomfortable.

It was also done on Designing Women when Charlene was dating Bill. His first wife Nancy died, and he briefly broke it off with Charlene because he felt guilty about falling in love again. But it was Julia, who understood how Bill felt because she also felt the loss of her first husband before she dated Reese. Julia told Bill that it was OK to fall in love again and that he had enough room in his heart for both Nancy and Charlene. Sara was basically telling Max the same thing, that she wanted him to be happy.

Yes, yes, I know it's a show. But could you imagine if everyone was like Sarah and Max? He fell for Fran so early on, but felt he'd be disrespecting Sarah bv going after Fran, so he never did out of respect for her memory. And Sarah's spirit knew what Max needed was to fall in love again, so she sent him a woman that would adore their kids and adore him. She knew he'd never forget her, and she was more focused on bringing her family happiness because she knew she could no longer provide it. It's just so beautiful.
