I have the G5, I love the powered drive on these. It was handed down to me via a family member. I have a few of the attachments and missing some. Good find!

I still like these old machines, keep finding one and trying to buy it because a Kirby will run forever.

That's a pretty good find! Those are quite expensive from what I remember.. Kirby are quite good vacuums albeit a bit heavy.

So they threw out a lovely, die-hard Kirby with a few minor problems, for a Sanyo canister?? I can't figure people out. Congrats on your treasure find! 👍👍

We used to have a G2, but my mom left it plugged in one night after cleaning, and the neutral line on a pole near our house got knocked off. Poor Kirby was one of the many casualties as everything plugged in in our house was fried with 440V.

I was given two of these vacuums for free from craigslist. One has all of the accessories. I just never got around to looking them over because I have so much stuff on my list of things to fix and sell.

I remember buying a newer version of this vacuum about 10+ years ago for around $1200 with a warranty, Kirby vacuums pretty much work forever with just the need for a few tweaks here and there.
@SeanBZA10 жыл бұрын
Bet that that one will still be running when the cheap canister vac is in the trash with a burnt out motor. All I have is a few old Hoovers, and can still get a lot of spares aside from cosmetic parts. Wish we had kept the old Hoover made in 1935, but the main casting on that broke past repair a few years ago.
@robert197503110 жыл бұрын
wow, only the second, trash picked kirby I've heard of, my brother found a g4 on the side of the road, that apparently had come from a local storage unit, he took it home and cleaned it up a bit and used his knowledge of the machine to fix what was a really dirty contact. fired right up, and appears to work normally. currently it's a spare to his other g4. I did get one on freecycle a few years back, a heritage omega from around the early 70s, actually still had most of the attachments in boxes, including a shag attachment

All you do is take the brush roll out flip it around a timer to the end caps till you get to the two markings or the three markings and that will bring the brush roll a little closer to the carpeting that might do the trick rather than replacing the brush roll

Can't add much more to the other comments, except... it is funny how people don't think of donating or craigslisting something like this. I wish I could find a Kirby just tossed out that works and has all of it's attachments ! haha
@Jallge10 жыл бұрын
SCORE! They probably threw it out because they thought that it was old and not worth it. But they were wrong. Watch their new china pride Sanyo fail within 4 years, and they'll buy another. I hope there's space in the land fill. Watching this video really reminds me of your old videos. The ones you made before you got the HD camera.

I bet the original owners are still making payments on it! I know someone who used to be a Kirby saleswoman. She made about 300 for each one she sold.

Throw-away society. No matter how much it cost. Those Kirby systems are NOT cheap... not at all. But people throw them away and replace them anyway.
@robert197503110 жыл бұрын
it is sad we swear by our g3, it takes what is thrown at it and keeps going. my brother used to work for kirby years ago, and actually can fix these. the sight of that g4 when he brought it home was almost heartbreaking.
@RegalCobra09710 жыл бұрын
I guess Kirby is in the US what Vorwerk is in Germany. We used to own one (I guess it was a Kobolt 117) and that thing was very expensive. Probably ran 12 years until the bags got too expensive

I'veonly used a kirby once, was at a church i liked it would push itslf along, i think could have been the brush though. used it on time, then went to get to use next time it was gone, never saw it again. Expect got thrown out because was old, a bunch of people donated their old oreks, etc. I work in I.T, and do electronics for hobby. I find amazing the things people will throw out. the way i see it i run stuff into the ground if i can then i'll take it apart, and recycle what i can. I rarely throw out anythin working unless it;s like 20me old junk thing from like 1990 i'll never use, or don't work well. I have like 3 working lcd monitors i was just given because thay failed. i open up replace a bad cap, and it works.

I miss my Kirby G3. I gave it away to a friend who's vacuum was terrible when I got my Sentria II off Craigslist for next to nothing. The clicking of the tech drive is a huge problem with the G3. They had it worked out by the G5, but not putting the Kirby back into "neutral" before turning it off caused clicking. I've never heard a Kirby G3 that didn't click. I don't remember what part you have to replace inside the tech drive unit, but it's fairly well documented on vacuumland. If you can pick up a used tech drive from a G5 - Sentria and install it for cheap (just changing the pedals so the machine matches) then that would be the best option. But you probably know how expensive the tech drive units can be unless you get a crazy person selling them for $10 - $40.
@MixerVM10 жыл бұрын
My Generation 3 doesn't make the clicking when the drive is in neutral.
@MrScoocks10 жыл бұрын
Noah Covert Man, you are so lucky. I've worked on over 20 G3s and every single one clicked just a little.

MrScoocks That is the bracket cam assembly most likely. My Diamond Edition did that for a spell, until I replaced it.

If you ever run into any problems that you're not sure how to fix on any vacuum just send me a message, I work on vacuum cleaners for a living and have worked on many Kirbys. The problem with the tech drive is that the cam on the other end of the shaft from the N-D pedals is sliding off, its available as a complete assembly for not too much money. Here's a link to one for sale just for reference: www.rakuten.com/prod/kirby-transmission-pedal-ug-de-g3/278754942.html?listingId=402374911&sclid=pla_google_GoodVac&adid=29963&gclid=CjwKEAjwmfKpBRC8tb3Mh5rs23ASJACWy1QPApzee0Hwvm-HPX9GHPyoANbGJQjucXzbyf0nzTuq6BoCiKPw_wcB
