No wonder so many are leaving Etsy. Deanna’s Crochet gifts has a .27 cent pattern for hen in the description says made to order?? I’m now done with purchasing on Etsy. I think your money would be better spent building a website and selling from there. Take care Robin 😊

You can get battery operated fans even the small &5 ones at wall mart, CVS , work good ! I also used to bring a small cooler of ice with long rolled material ties wet and froze them with the ice cubes down inside in there wear one around neck swap one off ! Even sold several That mart sounds like a nightmare , I’ve been to ones difficult to get to, some would have scout troops to help us unload which was a great help ! But too many just want their fees! I tended to keep away from any place where they had kid rides etc., because parents would buy for kids first crafts were often just a walk through!

It so sucks that these thieves are doing this! I have one suggestion for any designer, and that is to watermark every page with your logo or name. For example, on your cover photo, you could put it under your main photo, perhaps in an arc under it. That might be a deterrent because you know they aren't going to take the time to try and remove it. That would be proof right there that it belonged to you alone. For subsequent pages, I would watermark it somewhere that it is not easily removable. I hope this never happens to you again!

....you do have a copyright once you have it posted your file should have a data encrypted in its properties given the time it was created. That is your digital copyright you can use or many do use

i've got a TON of little plushies that i've thrown into a tote and plastered a handmade $10 SALE on it. that alone has helped tremendously to get rid of some of my items. i don't know what it is, but EVERYONE at least looks in the tote.

You can get cooling vests. The vests are lined with removable ice packs. There is even a neck ice wrap. My brother in law who has MS and has to be careful about controlling his body temp uses a cooling vest in the summer.

So sorry about the pattern thieves! Your setup looked so nice! I don't think I could stand Florida weather, either. I have an outside market the first Saturday in June here in Northern Louisiana and I don't know if I'll be able to stand it.

I will not purchase any patterns on Etsy. I've been buying a few cute patterns only to fine that they are horribly written or worse yet stolen. I will only buy from personal websites now where I know the person I'm buying from is the actual author of the pattern. I hope you can get things sorted with your patterns. I hate that there are so many people who will just steal anothers hard work. Up here in Ohio I helped my daughter with a show the 19th and it was just sweltering. 90degrees and sunny. Under that canopy was not too cool and the sun kept creepin up on us. She had a good sale day though. Her biggest sale was the plushy cats. You make similar ones that sit in a "box". So cute.

Next time you go out when its the least bit hot, take a potassium. With food. Then later if you feel bad or that night take another. But only you know what your body can have. I have gotten too hot many times and was low on potassium and felt so bad i wound up in the ER. Just dont go over 3 of the 99 mg . And only that day. And not at one time. My hubby was taking 5 or better a day working in the heat and drinking a spirts drink( not gatorade thats just salt and sugar) that had potassium in it too so he almost wound up in the hospital. If you have kidney issues dont take it. Look up low potassium symptoms. Maybe you could just drink one of those sports drinks or 2. Caffeine dehydrates you. The salt in the sports drinks will help too if you are sweating a lot. Glad you are ok. I also have some things that are copyrighted that i watch out for online. But not crochet. If only i were that good at it !😊

What a hassle for you and others who patterns are stolen on Etsy. Sorry you are having to deal with this. Glad you were able to have some sells at your market. I’m in Arizona and know about the heat. I’m done with markets until the fall. Too hot to even do indoors because ya still have to load and unload in the heat.

Glad to hear this last event was better. I take a small cooler with a ice pack cold drinks and most important is a wet washcloth in a zip lock bag for the hot months. The washcloth feels great on the back of your neck. It is so frustrating to hear what's happening to you designers. I wouldn't worry about the file corruption as much as the seller having possible access to financial information. Good luck

Hearing you talk abouot the kid swinging the crochet plushie around reminds me of the only BAD customers/experience I had at my most recent/2nd market.. My two most expensive items were an overall bunny and a large giraffe for 40 dollars each... this family with two kids kept man handling them and I was 90% sure they were gonna buy one.. so I kept quiet. THey left, came back, thought about it some more, and the kid dropped it and the parent legit just like looked at him and waited 10 sec for the kid to pick it up, they were swinging it around and everything.. Thankfully it didn't get damaged, but they didn't end up buying either of them and I am not sure how to handle kids/adults mishandling my plushies in the future..

It feels like 103?! It's not even officially summer yet!!! I'm not sure how you stand living there, that's so hot for May. I don't think I'll be visiting Florida during the summer lol. Also that's funny that people went through the totes first, I wonder what is was about the tote that caught their interest? Maybe just the mystery of what was inside. It's ridiculous that that one shop hasn't been taken down. If I had the money I'd give it to you to take them to court because that's not fair. I really do hope that there isn't a virus attached to those. I wish you luck getting the pattern registered!

I’m so sorry this happened to you. 😢 I’ve been on the fence about opening an Etsy shop. I want to sell my stuff but where I am there just aren’t the markets like you talk about. I fear selling on any of the social media apps would be the same. What do you do? Take a chance and pray it doesn’t happen to you? Sorry this is bumming me out too! You’re such a nice person. I hope this gets resolved favorably for you!

Physical items are different from digital. The thing with physical is once you put it out there and people see you’re doing well with it some will try to copy what you have.

This is awful to hear!! I have debated on taking my Etsy down and just doing a website. I know that copyrights are not too expensive depending on where you live. Yes, you get copyright automatically for your idea, but having a registered copyright is where you can take swift legal action with the copy of the registration most times. Also, a cease and desist letter that’s been notarized might work too. Most public libraries or the courthouse have notaries for free. I know trademarks are more for businesses, but it includes intellectual/artistic property too. Another option might be Ko-Fi. It is another platform for selling products that is what Etsy used to the be back in the day. Little to no fees and free postings. Looks a lot like a Facebook. Hope this helps! Sorry to hear about your pattern theft. So unfair. I stopped doing spring/summer markets because the sales were always disappointing and I don't do well physically in the heat. Hang in there and when the fall holiday markets start you will be glad you are ahead with your inventory. I made things year round and only did markets from Labor Day until Christmas. I've been searching your KZfaq videos looking for the link to the alligator. Can't find it. When you have a chance would you please send me the link? Thank you. Looking forward to your next post.

Back in '08 I had a terrible back injury and was off work for a bit, so I decided to open an etsy shop. I sold mainly handmade beaded jewelry and some crochet items. When etsy changed to we had to only use THEIR Paypal, I closed shop, as I didnt trust theirs. As it was, my sales were never great, when I opened my jewelry shop, etsy was SUPPOSED to be mostly handmade, but by the time I closed up, the market was FLOODED with cheaply made (and cheap) jewelry from overseas. That was in 2014. I refuse to buy from etsy if the designer has their pattern on Ravely, as I refuse to help etsy in any way. etsy doesnt care about HONEST people/designers, they only care about making a fast buck.

If it was only one pattern, I could see Etsy wanting the two shop owners to state their case. However, there are so many patterns from other shops, it is pretty clear in this case who is the legitimate shop. I wonder if in your description you clearly stated if you are not buying it from Knotting Hook Crochet, you are buying a stolen pattern...and also put a watermark on your pattern with similar wording.

Etsy should require a 5 minute phone conversation with those who falsely claim to be pattern designers. Their answers to a couple questions would totally solve the issue. Doubtful that they even speak English.☹️

FYI…the reason the scammers list your pattern for so little is as a bait to steal people’s info when they pay for it. So they don’t make money from your pattern, they make money from stealing people’s financial info, just like when they steal your credit card info. All you can do is just let your followers know so they don’t fall for the scam. Sadly there’s nothing else you can do.. 😢

Yeah when no human is looking at anything it takes power away from the victims. I think watermark is a cheaper way to get your copyright provable. I would hate for you to spend so much money when there's a different way.
