Memorial Day weekend 2004 was one to remember. A setup which produced renegade supercell thunderstorms ahead of a squall line of severe thunderstorms featuring embedded circulations.

I revisit this video often-- I cannot believe how dated Live Doppler 7 was at this point. Considering what the Dayton area just experienced, that 2 minutes truly makes a difference. Whatever happened to Steve Prinzivalli? Did he leave TV after leaving the area?

Steve lives in Catonsville, MD with his wife and 2 sons. He is currently a meteorologist for WTOP in Washington DC.

The EAS still creeps me out to this day, but it doesn't scare me that much anymore. (0:15, 9:55, 29:57, 52:01)

Apparently on the second EAS activation, the NWS made an error where the alert said Eastern Standard Time while May 30th is during Daylight Savings Time

Actually, this was back when Indiana observed only Standard Time.

The NWS started experimenting with those shortly after 04 I think. They became a permanent thing in 07.

Two things: 1. welcome back to KZfaq! I used to watch your videos all the time as a kid. 2. Was WHIO still using the Brian Orzel era Live Doppler 7 at this point?

As far as I understand, Yes. WHIO installed a slightly more powerful Weather Radar in 2007 which was after Brian Orzel.

They weren’t purposely interrupting them, or doing it to be rude. The NWS has to broadcast these EAS warnings and they have a higher priority of whatever is on the TV screen at that moment.

KZfaq will allow users to use tones from the EAS. It is only illegal to play this on TV, Radio, or send people unauthorized notifications on the WEAS.

I'm guessing the tech they're using is early WSI. There was another that was similar and eventually merged with WSI around the time they merged with TWC.
