'Albert Square a gloom-free zone' was an answer to the critics who labelled the show as depressing. Problem was, the subsequently happier episodes saw ratings nose-dive, and after a few months, the stories returned to their gritty, hard-hitting best and guess what? Viewers tuned in again!

10:00 Mike Reid being himself as well as his Frank Butcher character, that's what makes scenes like this so funny "How much?! Who said that? Enid Blyton?" Lol

@user-kl4bh4lq6r Definitely, that's why I miss both Mike Reid and his Frank Butcher character, when I watched the episode of EastEnders with Frank Butcher's funeral, as soon as the curtains closed, and you hear his voice saying "Take care of yourself babe", and Julia's theme started playing before it went to the end credits, I was crying 😢
