Sweden looks like a dreamy and beautiful place so I hope I was able to capture it in my May art travel journal setup for this year. I had a lot of fun using my new acrylagouache and dip pen - while exploring my portrait and design skills. So much fun - I hope you can find some inspiration for your setups too!

Sorry this one was just in the nick of time again guys. I talk a bit in the video about why there is some delay - just the intensity of life really! But I am determined to get a better schedule happening now the kids are back at school again after mid-semester break! Hope you like the setup and enjoy the rest of your weekend! x

What a beautiful presentation of the country! I live in Sweden and am very happy that you do the country justice through your set. An old tradition that has also existed for several years during midsummer is the seven kinds of flowers! It is A way of telling about the future that is still alive is to pick seven kinds of flowers to put under the pillow on Midsummer night. In the dream, you can then see who you will live your life with. According to tradition, you would pick the flowers in silence and climb over seven hedges. Now it's probably most common to "only" pick the flowers as there aren't that many hedgerows anymore, but I think it's a nice tradition ☺

I’m from Sweden and so happy that you caught the Swedish vibe. Love IKEA, and a couple of years ago around Christmas they sold a similar moose (build it self) in chocolate. 😀 Midsummers day will fall on a different date each year. It depends on the moon phases, usually around those dates you mentioned. The pink sky is very fitting, you can actually see that colourin the sky when the sun sets. Oh, just remember another fact about a old tradition on midsummer. If you are a young maiden and want to know who you are going to marry. You can pick seven different flowers from seven different pastures and jump the fences between them. Put the flowers under your pillow and then you will dream about your future husband. Sorry that the comment became so long 😅.

wonderful portrait of Ingrid Bergman!❤ Being from Sweden, I think that unfortunately many people get stuck in Stockholm or Gothenburg 😢. But found out how the bluebell became our national flower😂🥰.

Absolutely brilliant! Love it! Other things we have in Sweden are the Aurora Borealis and the Swedish invention of Plogging, but I know you mentioned that in the Norwegian setup! Something really big in Sweden is also the St Lucia celebration. Other Nordic countries have begun doing it as well, but it is mainly a Swedish thing. We celebrate light during the darkness of winter with candles, songs and saffron buns. It's beautiful but I know it did not really fit into the spring month of May. So I just thought I would mention it. I recommend everyone to look into the children's author Astrid Lindgren too. Love from Sweden ❤🇸🇪

First thing that comes to my mind: Astrid Lindgren. And ABBA 🤣 As a German, of course Silvia 😉 I‘ve been to Sweden a couple of times and the landscape is just breathtaking. I wish I‘d lived in Sweden the past three years 😉💪🏻

I know Casablanca is everyone's go-to for an Ingrid Bergman movie but my favorite is Gaslight. It's one of my top 5 movies of all time.

Interesting that you used gouache with the dip pen! Would love to see more use of the dip pen with paints. The pages are so beautiful and seem to capture the flavor of Sweden. I've been fascinated by Anders Zorn and his limited palette (and tried this myself) so glad to see him referenced here. I'm very familiar with Ingrid Bergman, too. Every film class I've taken has shown "Casablanca." 😄 Amazing likeness captured in the portrait 😍 Fascinating info about the ship! I understand how life's demands can interfere with art time. Do you find it hard to switch gears from Parent/Wife mode to creative artist mode and summon up the focus and creativity needed for these sessions? Obviously you manage it because these spreads are so gorgeous and well thought out.

Thanks Diane, so glad you like to see the pen with paints - it has opened up a whole lot of uses for me! Wow you've taken 'film' classes, that's cool! That must be interesting. I have definitely got to watch Casablanca. I really love the Zorn palette too, so nice to work with limitations it narrows down choices and makes it very relaxing. It is hard finding the time to settle down and work sometimes Diane but I seem to be ok switching hats between creating and normal mum tasks so that's lucky. I do plan on having a chatty video about that topic soon on my patreon. X

My mother born in 1930 played basketball on the boys' team, and I remember learning that they believed back then that a girl could not run the length of a basketball court. egads right.

@@TorrynMarie No no, we do, and we love them! It's just that "fika" has the same pronunciation of an italian word that means...something else*. Equally meaningful and important to life. (*It's the female genitalia, but said as a dirty slang. Kinda like 😺.) Ps: these theme's illustrations are absolutely adorable!! You're such an inspiration, thank you ❤️
