I can confirm during the time of the typhoon, we had our pets and even Chickens safe inside our house and thankfully we avoided a giant santol tree falling on us

Patricia and Irma, hit the land in a lower category and Tip from cat 5 he hit the Philippines at cat 2. while haiyan hit the land on his peak of intensity at cat 5.. all storms are actually strong but the damage and lost of life is awarded to Haiyan

There were actually a lot of typhoons in West Pacific other than Tip and Haiyan that peaked at around 175-185 mph but were not given media attention because of their track towards the open ocean or significant weakening prior to landfall. One of them is Typhoon Hagupit which peaked at 180 mph.

And then Meranti and now Goni.

Irma does not belong to the group. It is not rated T8.0+ on dvorak nor 190 mph or stronger in terms of wind speed. It'd be more appropriate to include Tip, Haiyan, Patricia, Meranti, Dorian, and Goni to the class of most intense tropical cyclones in modern history (1970 onwards). Tropical cyclones during 40s to 60s were severely overrated, hence inaccurately measured due to absence of advanced satellite technology and wind estimation methodology so this period should be ignored.

It's a recorded surface gust, meaning, land-based automated weather stations were positioned in a smooth terrain (less friction) and were able to withstand eyewall core conditions. Other powerful storms might have exhibited such wind gust but were not recorded due to rough terrain or destruction of weather stations prior to recording of highest gust.

goni was never that strong like haiyan because it's power was short lived and the only reason why the philippines was severely damaged because there was a 2 typhoons that passed by before goni and there was another 3 incoming

The record is on its first landfall no matter what the typhoon did not weaken on 2nd, 3rd, 4th landfall. It depends on the area why the typhoon weakened after its first landfall. Bicol is a mountainous area while visayas specially tacloban is a coastal area. And mostly of the houses are made of light materials. The record is a record. Goni is small but terrible typhoon. Just accept the fact that rolly is now the strongest landfalling tropical cyclone in world's recorded history. Yolanda is tied with meranti as 2nd strongest landfalling tropical cyclone in history.
