When an event like this happens, it’s always ALWAYS better to contact the police, get an Incident number, and include that incident number when filing a claim with the insurance company. Large corporations like...Larriott will always ignore you or give you the run around. Always go through your own insurance company because they have an obligation to make the policy holder whole. Plus, insurance companies have a lot more “teeth” when it comes to getting paid from other company’s, up to and including litigation. He wasted time contacting the other company, thinking that they would be reasonable.

This is correct. I've been in a couple of accidents, and each time I've contacted MY insurance company, GEICO, and asked them to handle the situation themselves. They are pretty good at getting hold of people.

Agreed. I'm assigned a company truck for my volunteer fire department, and it was hit while parked in front of my house one morning before 6am, while I was away at work. My neighbor heard the crash (it literally shook her awake), and came out to find the driver of the other car (who was 17 years old and not even supposed to be driving between 9pm and sunrise) trying to drive away, which wasn't possible because the tie rod was snapped on her car. The kid's mom (whom I knew slightly; small town life, go figure) showed up and wanted my neighbor to leave and she would contact me and take care of it. My neighbor refused, and called me and the police on the spot. I couldn't leave work, so had to wait until I got home to assess the carnage and deal with it. The kid's mom bitched and complained and begged and wanted me to just let her pay for it herself. I told her absolutely not; number one, that leaves me with no recourse if there's a problem; and number two, the truck isn't even mine- it's a municipal vehicle! Always, always report it and let the insurance company handle it.

Quoting scripture to make or enforce a philosophical point... definite proselytizing. @@John_Lee_ Just car confusion from his short explanation. Many people aren't aware that there are essentially clones of cars out with the same mechanicals but different outer designs. Usually it's different branding by the same company but sometimes it's an American company and a Japanese company collaboration. Ford Taurus/Mercury Sable. Ford Escape/Mazda Tribute. The Pontiac Vibe & Toyota Matrix were made at the same factory while it existed. The factory is now a Tesla factory. Previously the Chevy/Geo Prizm & Corolla were made at the same factory. The Vibe & Matrix are just another pair based off the earlier Corolla. The reason Toyota made clone versions with American branding is because Toyota bought a closed GM plant & part of the deal was they make some vehicles for GM to sell as their own.

As a non mainstream religious person, I have my own views on the mentioning of religion and how people react when religion is brought to mind. If you have an almost, mental, allergic reaction to minor religious references, you are not as sure of yourself in your religious views. If you need to be only in the presence of your own beliefs or absent of all other beliefs, you do not have a hold on your own religious views. Not that that is a problem. People can be new to a belief system or question their existing beliefs. But it is not the problem of the majority of the human race either. I worship Gods and know the historic conflicts between people like me and biblical religious groups. But that doesn’t stop me from going to church with my neighbour (yes they would love a new conversation) on occasion, or enjoying the beauty in religious music. I will admit to a dislike for the practices of certain religious groups, but in most cases even if I don’t understand the languages I still enjoy the beauty of their music. And I still strongly worship the Gods.

It seemed like something was going wrong with it to the point that every time I drove it I was expecting something to go wrong. I understand completely about your coworker’s decision. My wife and I have had to follow that route twice. In one case, I was driving and the woman who caused the accident was upset because she had to stay there until everything was settled and she was convinced we had caused the accident. So, I decided to just go with our insurance company. In the other incident, my wife was driving and she was hit by s driver that just drove into our car. The other driver was clearly at fault and my wife exchanged information with him. However, when she called his insurance company, the agent told her that they don’t cover the cost of a rental replacement. So, we decided to just go with our insurance. In case you’re considering this, what happened with us was our insurance company covered everything less our deductible, which was $200. Then, Once they got the money from the other insurance companies, they would refund our deductible. In both cases it took over a year. I highly recommend this, if you have a company that will do this for you because life is short.

Great videos as always!!! As soon as any damage/accident/anything is discovered in the parking lot, you should have the owner/victim of the vehicle call the police for a report to be done. In this case, a hit and run motor vehicle accident report would have made everything so much easier for both the owner of the Corolla and his insurance carrier. Having a documented police report would give the ability for both the investigating police agency and insurance carrier to go after the rental truck company and whoever the driver/renter was. No one should have to jump thru hoops to get a car fixed after an unfortunate situation like that, especially an employee just trying to work their shift. Keep the videos comin' when possible thanks!!!!!

I've had a similar situation on two separate occasions and I've used the following technique effectively: For those who get a 'we can't help you' from all the parties involved, just file a legal claim with the court, and name EVERY party even remotely conceivably liable. It's a no-lose situation because there is overwhelming evidence that someone else did it, and the first thing a judge has to do is to decide who is responsible out of the parties involved, but you make sure you want to include every party otherwise if the judge decides it's a different party then the claim will be thrown out and you will have lost those costs. In the UK a claim of that size would be handled by the small claims court and it's very cheap to file a claim and you don't need a solicitor. Don't keep accepting further and further delays by someone who pretends to be accepting responsibility - the case isn't resolved until you get the money, and if you haven't actually received the money in your account by the last date for filing a claim, have your claim ready and file it. Sometimes it is necessary to file a legal claim because otherwise some companies will just continue to give you the run-around until the date for filing a legal claim expires, and then there's nothing you can do. For the record, I've never lost a legal case. And also keep a diary of events after a situation like this as well as it will make your case preparation easier. Note: Sometimes when you win you still need to go back to the court for enforcement of the debt, and that costs more, but those costs are also added to the money they owe you.

This reminds me of a prang that happened to me. I was stopped at a crossing where a toddler with trike was crossing. In the mirror I saw a car coming up fast behind. I figured they were distracted and would not stop. I applied all my brakes hard on. That car rammed into the light trailer attached to my towbar. The energy was focused at the towbar which was rammed into the boot (trunk) of my car. Damage was extensive, but the car had not moved and the toddler was safe. That car was old and of low value, and because I had it just 3rd party insured, I needed to negotiate with her insurance myself. At first I was ignored, and then I was told I needed to fix the car and trailer - and they would CONSIDER settling the bill. I had no money to meet repairs. So I visited the Insurer's office and informed them that I needed them to fix the car. Their manager said according to THEIR RULES, they would only consider settling a bill. I replied that repairs were out of my reach and it seems that their client's policy will not perform as their client expects. So I would sue their client as an uninsured party. The manager reared up out of his chair, brilliant red in the face hyperventilating and yelled "Take a effing holiday mate". I returned to work. The phone rang and an insurance worker told me that thhe insurer would fix the car and trailer and also rent me a utility truck from HERTZ. Maybe this might give others some useful tips.

Buddy of mine worked for a college in Virginia and had a similar situation to what your coworker dealt with. He got the run around for like 10 minutes. So he hung up, took the video (because it's a college campus and students have a tendency to screw up stuff around the place) and filed a police report against the driver for hit and run/ leaving the scene of an accident. The company had the gall to claim HE was at fault, but in the end, his lawyer raked the buggers over the coals for a CONSIDERABLE amount of money.

I work for an insurance company. What usually happens is even though they are not responsible for damage done to a vehicle, if your co-worker has full coverage, they pay out under the uninsured / underinsured clause. They then sue the responsible parties / insurance company they have a policy through. This is called subrogation.

Unfortunately, in what could only be described as a bout of insanity, I traded it for a 69 Pontiac Grand Prix. It was a good car and had basically the same power train as the GTO but it sure didn't have the looks. I have often wondered why I got rid of that car.
