I've made two of those videos previously, but haven't revisited it lately. If you are serious about microstock I can say that doing YT will eat up your time and take away from uploading pics and vids to the agencies. But it is rewarding. Just not financially at this stage for me 🙂

haha Collect, and start selling those bones and animal teeth online! Someone will want them! Maybe polish one up, drill a hole in it, and call it a pen holder! :D

Hey Andrew, I'll share my May earnings with you! AdobeS - $18,77, 29 downloads, 70% ai images, 2 graphics. Some random photo sales: a photo of a concrete bridge, a photo of a Dutch road work sign and a drone photo of a neighborhood. ShutterS - $10,98, 35 image downloads, no videos. Some highlights: I sold an image of a recreational lake twice, within a week of uploading it. I randomly sold a photo that I often sell for 0,10, for 2,91. I also sold a drone photo I once took during a misty sunrise for 0,44. Other than that, I got a lot of 0,10 sales on SS. So in total I earned about $30 which is an okay month for me. I've been uploading quite consistently the past few weeks and finally surpassed 1000 images on both AS and SS. Making progress! While writing this I also just got a video sale on Adobe Stock which is exciting! Hope June treats you well and the weather clears up a bit!

Hi Laura, we have some sunshine today after a stormy rainy day yesterday. Great that you are growing your portfolio and also doing well with your drone and AI assets. You're really going for it and making excellent progress!

Hi Andrew, my earnings from stock photography are improving as my collection is growing bigger, albeit slowly. My portfolio is very varied and during the winter months, I set up a still life studio in my office and did a fair bit of food photography. I've noticed that AI is not very good at generating authentic food images, which gives me hope. AS for me has been doing much better than SS, though a lot of my editorial photos get rejected as they don't meet their criteria. It seems to be a hit and miss I find. I will soon be reaching level 3 at SS but it doesn't seem to make any difference to their RPD. I do find that stock photography quite time consuming and with you in full-time work it must be much harder to put in all the work that it needs. Still, if I take it as a hobby that pays then it makes it worth it. Enjoyed your video as always.

Thanks very much for the rundown of your results. It's good to hear AI is still not perfect with food photography. I really enjoy that genre for photos too. Keep enjoying your hobby and all the best with your summer and outdoor pics!

Hi Andrew! Amazing what you can find washed away at the beach... one time it is a fossil, another time a northern gannet :) Shame on Alamy. I should reach 300 dollars for May (if istock delivers at least a half decent month). I also have 2 early sales from the VW show, but sadly only for cents. Last weekend I explored Schiphol Panorama Terrace in hope for some new stock content, but it turned into a big fail because of sensor dust visible in the videos, and the heat from the airplanes made many photos looking blurry. At least I have learned something for the next time.
@andrewbalcombe1338
@andrewbalcombe1338 Ай бұрын
Hi Milos well done on almost reaching the $300 milestone. What an achievement. Yes Alamy has been dissipointing that's for sure. I'll just keep uploading and hoping for the best in June and see what happens. Schiphol's great for stock imagery, but you need a Canon to do it properly ;-). I hear Sony cameras often suffer from dirty sensors. all the best for reaching more milestones!

Hi Andrew, nice video, as always! Congrats on the very nice video sale :) Question - how to you identify all these fossils you find on the beach? I probably wouldn't even spot them ;)
@andrewbalcombe1338
@andrewbalcombe1338 Ай бұрын
Hi Aleksandra. Thankyou very much! I didn't know how to identify them at first. I remember picking up a rare woolly Rhino jaw bone once and throwing it back into the sea many years ago. Then I got talking to some beachcombers who collected fossils from the beach and then I started seeing them more easily. My son and I also send emails with photos to the Naturalis museum for identification sometimes.

Made a whopping 10 cents on an image of a person walking in the rain on SS. Not bad considering I have less than 50 images uploaded over there. :^)

Hi Pete, That is an interesting and thought provoking question. And as the agencies gradually shrink it is potentially becoming more viable especially for AS. But i'm hesitant to put all of my eggs in one basket at the moment. May I ask, which agency you are going with?

@@andrewbalcombe1338 yeah mate. I’ve been with istock/Getty since about 2017. There’s other benefits too. Like taking on creative briefs, custom content shoots for specific companies and being offered seed funds to help cover costs of the specific custom content shoots. There’s other stuff too. Like meet up shoots and training courses offered also.

Andrew, great to see improvements this month. I got to say, from someone with a larger port on Shutterstock (eg: over 2500 videos) sales on the agency have literally collapsed. It's not even a shadow of what it used to be just a couple of years ago.

Hi Steven, thanks for the kind words. True, it is a real worry. I think we have to diversify even further or go the way of the Dodo. The market is shrinking - although contributors are still making money.

@@andrewbalcombe1338 yes i actually tried to diversify further into other agencies such as Story Blocks and Motion Array but my application was rejected with them. So it leaves just my main four: Shutterstock, iStock, Adobe Stock and Pond5. Fortunately, VERY fortunately, Adobe Stock has been a consistent strong performer for me this year, every single month is posting really good results. iStock is up and down though do see occasional good months with them. Even Pond5 has picked up for me in recent months. These three agencies alone are allowing me to achieve a satisfactory level of monthly earnings and would be the same even if Shutterstock dropped to zero. Still I'm hoping Shutterstock can pick up again.

you're doing better than me. I had one good sale, a panoramic photo on canvas at an art website for 40 dollars. A total of 72 sales for 62.50 in May. I have uploaded 6 photos from the Aircooled show and have already sold 2.

Thanks Andrew, always great to hear about your latest sales. I just made a $100 sale today on Alamy (Red Lobster building) and a $40 sale there a week or two ago (another restaurant). I seem to be making around 2 sales a month on Alamy. SS surprised me with over $100 for May with a few good sales, Adobe is now consistently paying out $100+ per month now, mostly macro and editorial images. For some reason my Adobe acceptance rate skyrocketed to around 95% now, no particular reason why. So far this month I've earned about $7 on SS with 40-something downloads and $53 from Adobe. I follow Microstock Life channel here and have picked up useful tips on keywording and in particular, writing brief but concise descriptions, especially for Adobe. Perhaps it has helped? I've been redoing many of my Adobe image descriptions for maximum exposure. Anyway, cheers from Houston Texas!

Hi Andrew.. I am trying to understand stock photography. What do you mean when you say editorial photos?
@andrewbalcombe1338
@andrewbalcombe1338 Ай бұрын
Hi and thanks for the comments. Editorial pics are categorized, among other things, as pics used for news purposes or that have property and people in them but no release forms have been signed. The rules/laws are complex and i'm not a lawyer. They vary from country to country about what may be photographed, uploaded to the web and published for money. I suggest you check out the rules guidelines on the stock agencies such as shutterstock. And also the laws of where you live

It appears that to make money in this work, it takes a few thousand pictures in an account to get any money out of this. At what volume of pictures did you start getting payments that made it worthwhile?
@andrewbalcombe1338
@andrewbalcombe1338 Ай бұрын
so long ago, i'm not really sure. Maybe around 500-1000. What I did was measure whether it was worthwhile continuing by analysing if I had significant enough growth in earnings after one year of uploading. every portfolio is different aswell. Not everyone is a performer with keywording and or winning subjects. Some do well with less, others may need more images. But one thing is for sure. This market is only getting tougher. And many top contributors seem to be uploading more, but only maintaining the same amount of revenue now

I must say Alamy is the worst for me. Been on there for almost 3 years and over 700 photos and only sold 4 Photos in all that time. Suggestion.... Please make a video about your journey with Adobe Editorial photos. I get a lot of rejections due to photos being "newsworthy" and then its just stand editorial content, like a road sign. One road sign gets accepted but the other not and its exactly the same sign just from different angles.
