I swear PTX uses the force every time they make anything. The songs in the Star Wars movies are so iconic and they MUST be done perfectly! PTX did them perfectly, and were an excellent choice for this live performance! Drop some knowledge in the comments about PTX, Star Wars, or anything you think is interesting!

I never understand producers' decisions on specials like this or the Wicked anniversary to put a full band/orchestra behind PTX. Kevin must feel like "why am I even here?" Loved the beginning though.

We do get the funny story about Avi going out on stage too early from this though. I don’t know if you can see it on this recording but they have told the story in interviews.

You should listen to “Pentatonix - Aha!, Singapore, The Star Vista”.... it’s absolutely INCREDIBLE!!! One of Mitch’s most impressive live moments (of which there are many). And Avi KILLS some bass notes!

I might be alone here but I love the part with the orchestra. And, for the record, Kevin wasn't out of a job when the orchestra began ... he was singing harmony with the others. As you said, his beatboxing at the beginning was killer as always. Yes, they are an a capella group but it was a John Williams tribute and that means big orchestra music. Also, it shows their versatility as performers to be able to hold their own with orchestral accompaniment. Which they did, extremely well.

This was the only time musicians were put with Pentatonix and I wasn't pissed. It was billed as a collaboration and they accepted the offer. It's a famous Movie Score and The George Williams Symphony Orchestra is a BIG name! Harrison Ford introduced them and they were very excited about the entire thing! They felt so honored by the invitation! I love that, in spite of the Orchestra, you could hear those 5 voices in front of it. It all sounded so sweet and big! Kevin was a machine in the beginning and I think it's so amazing that beatboxing was done in a classical genré here! Who'd have thought of such a thing? A fabulous collaboration!

Not the only time. Wicked, "That thing you do", and some others. Some were not great, but in this case, it called for it. Star Wars songs are so big, they require a large orchestra to get that punch. PTX are ridiculous at making 5 voices fill a room, but in this case, be honest. That last song they couldn't pull by themselves and get the same emotion.

I so agree, Maschelle! It's not a popular opinion, but this time the collaboration with the orchestra was appropriate and worked beautifully! What made it work, in addition to the nature of the music itself, was the excellent sound mixing. They weren't overpowered or drowned out; they were enhanced. This was EPIC!

You so SO need to step back in time and watch some of their Sing Off performances. It was magical to watch them do things with a cappella that no one had ever thought to do before. You have to look up Dog Days Are Over, and include the judges' comment, because watching their heads come off was hilarious! Another one was Marvin Gaye's Let's Get it On. Holy CRAP, Scott Hoying blew the DOORS off that performance! And he was a mere 19 years old! They were all so young, and ready sprinkled with star dust. It has been a pleasure watching them make history.

I feel as though you should just react to their sing off performances. You will be able to see where the greatness started with them and just be amazed at how good they were when they barely even knew each other. Also a few of their performances really just rocked my world :P

You should do Pentatonix Evolution of music. It's one of the old ones, and the one that got them worldknown. I love all your pentatonix videos! They also do collaborations with other artists. Their most known would be Radioactive with Linsey Stirling (in which Kevin plays his cello) or Jolene woth Dolly Parton.

Don’t know if you saw this but it’s Avi Kaplan overtones Lion Sleeps Tonight, he sings 2 notes at the same time. If you want to be more amazed, give it a watch.

Personally, I loved the combining of PTX voices (bass daddy Avi, angel-voiced Mitch!!!) and the orchestra. This was a tribute to Star Wars composer John Williams as well so I wasn't surprised when the orchestra came in.

I totally love that it was part a capella & part with the orchestra. You can hear them to continue to sing along with the orchestra, which is needed to add that "really big battle" feeling when the music gets to that point. But them doing the softer intro fully a capella shows off the intro a different way than the original.

They didn't need the orchestra but still managed to sound like a full choir.....could still hear Kevins shhhhhhish sound lol.....& Avi's bass....great performance none the less. Thanks for your reactions....keep them coming

I'm annoyed at whoever made the decision because the whole point and draw of PTX is their lack of instrumentation. Obviously it wasn't PTX's idea. The only time I like seeing them with instruments is when they've got the cello and also when they include Lindsey Sterling because she's also amazing.

Not sure if this was a response to my comment or not. If so, I did say I didn't understand why the producers of the special would choose to do that. Obviously I know it wasn't in PTX's control. I wouldn't say I was "bent out of shape", but more befuddled. :)

They also performed with the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra for the Bowl’s Fourth of July celebration in 2017. It received much the same type of comments, pro and con, from their fans. I believe the only videos of that are fan videos.

Star Wars fun fact - Steven Spielberg and George Lucas both released Sci fi movies in the same year. Both were more confident in each other’s work, so they made a bet with each other for a percentage of their shares. So Spielberg has something like 2.5% of Lucas’s share of Star Wars.

I'm pretty sure you would enjoy a song called Bittersweet by Apocalyptica, feat. About the performance - Full orchestra vs PTX.... I wouldn't want to be sitting in those chairs... There IS no way to compete.... "We were louder - Yeah, but there were only FIVE of them." "We matched their perfection - Yeah, but you have been playing this style of music for years, and Oh, there were only FIVE of them. And they received top billing..." This is the 1st I've seen this clip. When I saw it was Star Wars, I thought, "Cool. Pentatonix is going to sing the words to the Star Wars song." But it was a bunch of da da da da's. Disappointing. You know there are actual lyrics to that song, right? It wouldn't have sounded so redundant when the full orchestra came in if they'd been singing the lyrics, instead of a bunch of da da da da's.

I never get why people think its a good idea to put them with a full orchestra, on a song with no lyrics. It feels like it defeats the purpose of the group.
