i find it so inspiring that you keep such a consistent dark academia-ish vibe for your reading journal, yet you always manage to make it match a monthly seasonal mood! 🦋 i always felt afraid of committing to one theme for a whole journal, but your videos make me realize how versatile that can still be. happy reading for june! i'll be checking out the april livestream asap ✨📚

Beautiful spreads! 📖 Mine were all non-fiction. I listened to all of T. Colin Campbell’s books, and one by his son, Thomas Campbell, M.D. All were very good. The China Study is my favorite book of all time, across all genres. I read it years ago, and listened to the revised edition in May.

May was very meh for me, thankfully with the exception of Project Hail Mary, which I LOVED. Absolutely fantastic sci-fi, so interesting. AND the audio is brilliant. Can't recommend it enough. Also how good are some of the Wayward Children books. I was so sad when I caught up. Lundy's book is my favourite (In an Absent Dream) as it was weirdly like reading about myself. 😅📚

10:19 cheeky playful paw action made me laugh, it was so wholesome 😂❤ - Also, unrelated to book content: since you've got it, I keep thinking how nice that pair of scissors must be to cut with lol - Book content related: I read The Reading List and am now reading all of the books on, you guessed it, the reading list (tho, I'm alternating between one book off of the list and one book off of my shelve - such as Agatha Christie's Sparkling Cyanide 😊). Both The Reading List and the books on it I can higly recommend ❤

I’m a stat nerd. The thing I don’t like about pulling stats from such a small number of data points (in your case, 8 books), is the percentages don’t say much. (A 50% out of 2 data points say less than 50% out of 100 data points). So the graphs and percentages aren’t really ready for interpretation.

Oh rad, Entangled Life is on my TBR! I own it physically, haven't actually read it yet because my disabilities make it hard to hold a heavier book for a long time, so I may see if I can get an ebook copy as well. Still, fungi is cool as hell (and so is the name Merlin Sheldrake, seriously), it sounds super fun. And I actually liked Drowned Girls a bit better than Lost In The Moment (I rated Drowned Girls 8.5 and Lost in the Moment 8), but fair judgment! Thank you too for your Wayward Children reviews, too, you got me into the series in the first place :D Agreed on how important this series is! My favourite read in May was Space Opera by Catherynne M Valente. May is Eurovision month and Space Opera is Eurovision in SPACE!, so it was pretty perfect timing! It's so much fun, definitely recommend. (Book emoji!)

📚 Loved these spreads, and looking forward to the 'behind the scenes' video in due course, the stats page is fab. May was my slowest reading month so far this year as I focused on my physical tbr, some of which I've owned for years and found I wasnt really that into now I've finally got around to them! I finished 6 and honestly 3 of them were super short so I feel a bit like I was cheating (2 were 500+ pages though). The best was The Queens of Innis Lear by Tessa Gratton, beautiful writing, I highlighted a bunch of quotes which I dont often do ❤

@@PlantBasedBride Victory City is by Salman Rushdie. It's a novel about gender and gender equality. It's historical fiction and magical realsim. it has been published in february 2023. Through a gless, darkly (i miss translated it - i read mostly in French) is by Jostein Gaarder (who wrote Sophie's World). It's fiction, philosophical and is about the meaning of life and death. first published in 1993.

📚 May is typically a busy month for me so my time to read is greatly reduced. However I did read a book I won’t soon forget called Things Past Telling by Sheila Williams. This historical fiction novel focuses on the journey of a 112 year old main character whose life from Africa to America brings about all of the feelings while reading. I highly recommend this book.

📚 I am listening to Dave Grohl's memoir, "The Storyteller" and it is surprisingly poignant for a story that centers around rock and roll. There's a chapter where he explores the feeling of grief and loss and it really resonated with me during my drive home. And I keep wanting to try nanowrimo but it's so intimidating to me!

You mention in the video how long it takes you to gather your stats after you transfer them out of a spreadsheet. May I ask why you don't create the graphs in your spreadsheet program? I would be curious to know the reasoning if it could be included in your upcoming video. I created a template for this so I can filter by time periods which allows me to look at the year as a whole or specific quarters. Your spreads are beautiful and I love the pictures you've added. 📖

Your reading journal makes me want to do a better reading journal. Mine is just simple so far. Your’s is so beautiful. I too, hated Lute. It was not… good. The romance got me in the ick factor too! Hide was not for me, so it’s interesting to see what other people think. I gave it one star. 🙈 I’m surprised you didn’t care for where the drowned girls go. But Lost in the Moment and Found might be my favorite in the whole Weyward children series too.

Simple is beautiful, too! ❤️ though if you want to add more elements to your reading journal I fully support that 🥰 Ooo interesting, what was it about Hide that didn’t click for you? It’s definitely hit and miss for people! WtDGG just felt very much like an in between book for me. Like it needed to happen to set up something in a later book rather than having its own purpose or arc, you know? And LitMaF was so beautiful. The more time that passes since finishing it the more it solidifies as my favourite of the series. It was so well done ❤️

I love your reading vlogs. I began May finishing up Picasso's War (non-fiction), which I loved. Not as great as Ninth Street Women or Out of this Century but still very good. Then I re-read Age of Innocence by Edith Wharton (1921 Pulitzer). It was a 5-star read for me. Then I read Trust and while Age of Innocence and Trust are different, they make good companions. I liked Trust for the craft experiments in the book. I didn't find it super-interesting nor the kind of prose I want to bathe in. But it deserved the co-Pulitzer position and my 4-stars. Then I read Saving Italy (also non-fiction) which is art-nerdy and dry but fascinating. Now, I'm trying to read Demon Copperhead but I might DNF it despite its co-Pulitzer and Women's Prize. I really want to finish it but I'm wimpy and I find it to gratuitously violent to be a place I want to spend a week or two.
