Poet and author Maya Angelou has died. She was 86 (1928-2014). In 1993, she was invited by then-President-Elect Bill Clinton to deliver the Inaugural poem. Here she is reciting her poem, "On the Pulse of Morning," on January 20, 1993.

That s what I was thinking. Angelou’s poem is still so powerful. And how simple it is to start to make a better world. Here on the pulse of this new day You may have the grace to look up and out And into your sister's eyes, into Your brother's face, your country And say simply Very simply With hope Good morning.

This woman changed my view on literature during the end of my school days. I went from the edge of failure and not attending lessons to getting a B in the final tests. My teacher loved Maya Angelou and taught her words with all the passion and emotional she could, she believed in the beauty of the words Maya Angelou spoke. She's motivated me to start writing myself and I will be uploading these on my channel. I may not be able to speak words like Maya Angelou but there's an unbelievable sense of fulfilment in expressing yourself in writing. I hope she can rest knowing how many people she has inspired and gave meaning into their lives.

I have “still I rise” tattooed on my arm and named my beautiful little black cat Maya, because I said she is a strong black woman for surviving her kittenhood on the street. I’m sure someone will call me a racist for that, but I meant that with all my heart when I named her Maya. Mayas struggle with her mother gave me life as a young woman, as I understood her struggle. She is immortal now. Her words will never die.

The great tragedy of this supremely gifted messenger and her most profoundly epic and clear message, not a soul behind her could hear a word she said. Speaking directly at them and challenging them was futile. The irony lost on them completely. "Today I call you to my river side if you will study war no more." Humans are not in charge. Nature is. We are but temporary visitors here. More than 30 years on and still they do not hear the rock, the river or the tree.
