I've always questioned whether it was considered wrong in any way Because she's 13 and he's 16 when they first meet and by the lodge episode he's 18 and she's 15 But Josh is jever doing anything to lead her on He's actually very sweet and gentle with her And while it's clear he likes her he never takes advantage of any nieve she has As a matter of fact he shows he appreciates her beautiful mind and honestly that just makes him better for her but only when she's 18

Ppl who consider this problematic are a little bit too much into calling each second thing problematic, I think. There's nothing wrong with girls (especially the ones like Maya, who are naturally more mature) having feelings for the guys that are a tiny bit older (literally one year older than what would not be considered a problem by them, apperantly). And neither is there anything wrong with a guy liking a girl that is a little bit younger (a bit, I'm not talking about the 20+ age gaps). By the logic the ones saying they're problematic are using, it is also fair to state that, since they're only problematic 'cause he's eighteen, they weren't problematic when he was like seventeen, and she fourteen. But this sounds way worse then eighteen and twenty-one, doesn't it? He grew to (let himself?) like her romantically when she didn't seem to be a child anymore (though I do suggest that he never totally viewed her as one, 'cause she's just that mature and all, but he was making himself do that, I think, ever since he'd figured she'd had a crush on him, 'cause, you know, the age gap is fatal when it is 13/16, as, yk, this was his whole arguement like ever, and, as time went by, he started to seem more and more defenceless saying that), and her feelings have always been "not a crush", but just genuine affection and (I'm gonna go for THE word) love (even though, it seems to me, later she pushed herself to believe it's just a fantasy, and it sorta led up to her getting confused in her feelings about Lucas). So there's nothing wrong about two people who have always cared for each other one way or another to at some point admit their feelings and decide that when the time comes, it comes, because they feel the feelings and they do want to keep each other in their lives. There's nothing problematic about that. Especially, considering they've always had similar mindsets (it's not like he was a mature almost-adult when she was a child, no, he was albarely a teen, when she was a child, and she was a teen and he grew up into being an older teen, but still a teen). Also, there're a lot pf couples with this age gap. And, by this logic, a couple that is 17/18 is also problematic because the older one is grooming, apparently? Like, make it make sense. When peers have feelings for each other, it is fine. Moreover, it is how it's supposed to be. And when it comes down to a boy of like 19 y/o and a girl of 16, I do think they might very well be considered peers -ish. Calling them problematic is overthinking it

@@lesbiangoddess290 it's still only three years apart while they're both mentally (and factually) teens. And it's still overthinking to call them problematic. 'Cause all of the weird stuff is within the official things (aka places they study at), whilst all the normal is life. I mean, sure, it's ok not to like them. However, they're still clearly written to end up together from the beginning (the long game) and there's nothing practically wrong with them having feelings for each other as a teen boy and a teen girl. Especially, as they'll grow older and by his 30 she'll be 27. Not liking them or feeling weird about them is alright, but it's a personal preference rather than righteousness (one more time: it's not like he's even five to ten years apart, which, just a tiny bit later in life is considered to be the norm (barely, but still))

@@mushroomcitizen Have you seen the show? I’m just asking, I’m not trying to start a fight but I feel to even make an concise point I have to know if you’ve watched to show. If you have then you have some understanding of what their relationship was actually like. If you haven’t then your commenting on something you don’t actually understand. Everyone is entitled to their option, but it is not grooming. Josh is 5 years older than her and has known her since they were young. Some people would argue that’s worse, because then he has more time to “groom” her, but what that really means is that he sees her as the weird friend of the family that’s always there. She likes him, he shuts her down every time. He is well aware he is older and that it is inappropriate to be in a relationship with her while she’s so young. Josh isn’t even on the show for like two seasons, he was there at the start and then there at the end when she’s 16/17 years old. He still says no, that she is too young but they say they will wait and see if they could work when they are both at an age and place in their life where they could be together. Again, I don’t mean to fight or rant, but as my comment said, the ship isn’t what people make it out be, it’s a hopeful one. They aren’t together, they maybe never will be, but they could be. That potential is what makes me love this ship and it is not grooming.

​@@mushroomcitizen Uh, no. Please don't use terms like these so casually and without regard. Grooming would be Josh pursuing Maya, possibly in a subtle way but still influencing/manipulating her. Truth is he's barely in the show, Maya's kind of a friend to his family so there's a lot of trust and familiarity there. And it's pretty clear that Maya is always in the driver's seat, he never tells her what to feel it what to do it all comes from her. If she was older they'd even call what *she's* doing to *him* harassment, not the other way around. But the show gets away with it because she's young enough for it to be childish. Not to mention there is never any waiting or even a romantic relationship. He simply says "maybe, if it's meant to be life will lead us there".

@@briannarobinson9003 I think the 18 is because technically they are adults but in this case he is very stern about the boundaries but he does have feelings for her and he always checks in with her ( it’s been years since I’ve watched this so correct me if I’m wrong because I don’t have Disney+ but I believe in the taco episode ( where Maya and Cory are wanting to win the taco thing) Josh helps her up and they both say “ long game” meaning if it happens great but we are gonna move on and live life and Maybe we will reconnect as we grow older.

My guess is middle school had more grades than high school and instead of 4 they had 2 or 3 years of high school, he was a freshman in college and if they are in the last year of middle school then 3 years, I hope that makes sense

For them it is. When they met, they were 13 and 16. In the last season, they were 15 and 17/18. Which isn't too big for a difference, but she is kind of young. Josh wants to be with her, but is waiting until she's old enough. They are taking the long game because he knows that she's worth it. They are waiting for each other. They know that even if they wait, they'll be together one day when they are old enough.

A 3 year difference is HUGE at their age Teenagers develop so fast and the maturity between teens more than 12 months is huge So while a 20 year old dating a 23 year old is not a huge difference, a 13/14 year old dating a 16/17 year old is huge difference
