This is a game changer. The current Bullet is not the best. Collisions will be so much more precise now. I checked the settings and the Internal frame rate has been increased so we will get better simulations. Thank you so much for this Autodesk! Now, all we need is a revamped Fluid system.

You'll need to select the mash repro geometry and cache it out as Alembic for use in other software like Unity.

First Of all I'd like to thank You very much for greatjobs You've done. Videos are fantastic and clearly showing what's the MASH is about, but I've got one little problem. I thought I can make an animation with rigid bodies, so I made slide and sphere. The sphere was Active Rigibody and slide was of course passive (Field/ constraint menu). Then I created MASH network and added some boxes as "dominos". I puted the sphere as collider to collider menu sectionion in MASH dynamic solver and...nothing. It passed through the boxes and flew away. Is thereany idea to connect rigidbody or evensoftbodies simulations with MASH? I don't know ifI wrote clearly because english is ofcourse not my primaly language but I hope yes :) Best regards

Try this: Make the Sphere into a second MASH network, but with only 1 point in its Distribution (so only 1 sphere shows up). Add a Dynamics node and the slide as a collider. Then add a Transform node (to position it) then put it where you want and play the scene. This should work, because MASH networks calculate collisions more frequently than typical Maya rigid bodies.

maybe a bit off topic. but i have for example a rock that is previeously shattered in maya. so i basically have a grouped mesh with lets say 20 objects. how can i select that rock, make it dynamic and let it break? when u showed the contraints i thought about this right away. the problem is when i grab the group, its a solid object again. when i select every object its not a spehere it takes a random piece and distributes it. thanks in advance
@Autodesk_Maya5 жыл бұрын
You can actually use the MASH > Dynamics > Add Shell Dynamics command to add MASH dynamics to an existing object without instancing it. MASH will automatically set up a network that treats each individual polygon object as a point in the network. Then you can set each individual piece's MASH Bias or sleep to achieve the effect you described.
@KintaroTakanori5 жыл бұрын
(just made a comment but didnt post so ill make it shot) doesnt work when i add it to shell dynamics. i select shattered sphere and add the pieces but it creates a network for all pieces.

How fast are your objects moving? If it's too fast, they might be missing the collision window so try slowing them down. An alternative workflow is to not use the collider at all, but instead to put each object in its own MASH network with a Dynamic node. By default, both will be attached to the same bulletSolver and thus they'll interact.
@harrisenlysaght2 жыл бұрын
I've added the sphere to the bulletSolver collider objects but it still doesn't interact with the MASH network. What am I missing?
@Autodesk_Maya2 жыл бұрын
How fast is your sphere moving? Sometimes if it's too fast it can pass the collision volume entirely rather than colliding. Try slowing it down to see if that helps. If not, another way to accomplish this is to put both objects in two different MASH networks and apply a dynamics node to each of them (they'll reuse the same solver).

is there a memory leak problem with Mash Dynamics? As soon as I enable dynamics, to a mash network of 50000 instances, it eat-up all my memory and freeze my pc! Decreasing the number of instances, make no difference. Other Mash network don't use even that much of memory. Before enabling Dynamics, Maya was using 1GB only, and that with a scene animated and with 4 nodes of Mash. After enabling Dynamics, Ram would quicly build-up. reaching 16gb (all My system ram) in less than 45 seconds!

Hmm, to be honest I'm not sure. I would log that as a bug though. download.autodesk.com/us/support/report_a_bug.html?SelProduct=Maya

Hi, this is great tutorial, but i have one problem with MASH. Is it posible, to make Domino scene without MASH and select all dominos in scene apply MASH, but to all my objects stay where i set them and just apply nodes i need, like dynamics. what is the point of this question. i create scene with MASH with curve node, used one domino and distribute and curve nodes, now i need one part where dominos need to go up on stairs, but i cant make that with MASH. is there way to create that part with duplicating dominos and use something to MASH affect that second part. Tnx :)
@Autodesk_Maya2 жыл бұрын
Yes, you could add all of the "stair domonoes" to a second MASH network and set the Distribution node to exactly the number of them (so each one only gets instanced once). When you add multiple source objects to a MASH network like this, you'll also need to add an "ID" node, so MASH knows there's multiple unique source objects to instance. Then add dynamics to the second MASH network and it should automatically interact with the first MASH network.

How fast is your sphere moving? Try slowing it down, as collider objects don't support sub-frame evaluation. Alternatively, try selecting the sphere and making a MASH network out of it. Reduce the number of points to 1. Then apply a Dynamics node to it and turn the MASH Bias up to 100. Finally, create a Translate node and then animate the sphere using that. Since MASH networks evaluate faster than collider objects, this should definitely fix your problem (and get you more accurate collisions too).

Hi, I'm using Maya 2018.3, however if I keyframe the sphere so that it collides with the bricks, the bricks do not respond. They remain stationary. I have added the sphere as a collider object. If I remove the keyframe animation, the sphere becomes an obstacle and the bricks behave as expected. Have I missed something or is this a bug?
@Autodesk_Maya6 жыл бұрын
It could be that your sphere is moving too fast. Actually, an alternative to this method is to put the sphere into its own, single point MASH network with a dynamic node as well. Then use a transform node to animate the crash. This checks for collisions a lot more often.
@fredhatespie6 жыл бұрын
Thanks - I'll give it a go. I should point out that I reverted to Maya 2018 with no updates and the sphere worked as expected - i.e keyframe animation affected the cubes as a collider object (similoiar to your video). The 2018.3 update seems to have disabled this feature - is this a bug?

Hello sir, My Dynamic Mash is not working, when I set keyframe the mesh collider. I set up some balls in tha bottle, then I set keyframe the bottle, all the balls spills out.
@Autodesk_Maya2 жыл бұрын
Check the collider's thickness. If it's too thick, the balls may be passing by it (i.e. not colliding). Reducing that will improve the accuracy (but can slow down performance a bit).
