It's been a journey of ups and downs but I feel like I'm back on the Haruki Murakami bandwagon. Maybe it's just that his new novel, The City and Its Uncertain Walls, is coming out in the US later this year. Maybe I'm just getting older and yearning for the books I liked when I was younger. Maybe I'm just less jaded and more forgiving of his weirdness. Regardless, I'm happy to be back in the saddle. I'm in the middle of reading Sputnik Sweetheart, and I think I want to give 1Q84 a third go round sometime soon. That or Wind Up Bird Chronicle. Or maybe even Kafka on the Shore. There's really not enough time in each day.
I also just want to say thank you to everyone who watches my videos. I'm trying to make them more frequently and hopefully get to the point where this can become something of a side job for me. Every time I get a nice comment it truly makes my day. I have quite a few artistic endeavors and this one is by far the one that reaches the most amount of people. So thank you.
I've been editing in CapCut (I know right?) and its made things a lot easier than working in iMovie. I also just downloaded Resolve so I'm going to try to learn that soon. I've also (as you have probably noticed) been messing around posting memes and shorts and stuff. Just trying to get some more eyes on the channel.
Per usual, I made this music for this video, too. I have a band called GuestHouse so if you like what you hear here, check us out. We have an EP called Flowers that I'm really proud of.
Anyway, I think that's about it. This paragraph is just gonna be filled with key words, such as books, booktube, reading, reading challenge, book review, favorite books, ranked books, book list, book store, Japan, Japanese, bookend, bookish, TBR, favorite books, fantasy, sci-fi, and probably there are some other words I should be tagging too. If anyone of you have advice on that, I'm all ears.
Love you!
Shawn

I will make another one sometime soon! I was thinking about doing a "books you might like if you like Murakami" video. Could definitely do a video on magical realism, but I think I might have to do some more focused research on that front. I've read some Borges but I'm far from an expert.

Wow, I just randomly came across your video on my recommended, and I love this commentary, the music (yes I know you made it and I love that!) and you're the one to bear the news to me that there is a new novel ready for release. I have Kafka on The Shore with me almost always and I've read it 7 or 8 times, each time finding something different within it. Listening to you talk about Sputnik Sweetheart made me realise it's probably time to revisit some of the other novels to see how they sit with me. I have also enjoyed Han Kang, especially The Vegetarian and I'm reading Greek Lessons now. I've always said liking Murakami is a litmus test for how well I'm going to get along with someone...because I like it so much and most of the people I come across fuckin hate it. I feel he's totally normal to me, many of the topics he explores make sense and that raises a lot of questions to me about my own psyche and why I think that way...possibly for the worst.

And I finished the whole video and thought, damn, I'd listen to this guy talk about anything. I love watching film commentaries, and music and you know what? I'm sure many Murakami lovers like that to since the fabric of this text spans all of these topics. Create away, brother!!! Subbed and can't wait for the next one.

I read these comments before I went to work today and I kept thinking about how nice they were. Thank you so much! I'm glad you found the video. Kafka is the one I always want to reread (I've read it 2 or 3 times, can't remember). The Vegetarian broke my brain the first time I read it. Human Acts is great too.

I really appreciate your video. I like the video snippets and the narrative style and introspection. The pace is really nice too and your voice very calming. Keep it up! But maybe don't juuuust make Murakami videos haha. 1-2 more seems good, I get that they get clicks, but I think it's just a door opener for ppl to your creative thoughts and projects.
