An island adventure in our Land Rover Defender.
This week we take you on a sea voyage to Penghu.
A group of 90 islands off Taiwan’s west coast.
We could be wrong but we’re pretty sure that we are the very first foreign registered overland vehicle to drive in Penghu.
In this episode we explore the beautiful coastlines and experience a very unique traditional fishing method.

I remember taking that ferry from Kaohsiung to Penghu maybe 4 years ago. Not the smoothest ride but we were also on the tail end of a storm. I had heard they were going to replace it that ship but maybe not. Thanks for posting all the travels of Taiwan. I love and miss that place and its people. Another little island to go to off the coast of southern Kaohsiung is called Xiao Liu Chiu. Much smaller than Penghu but also quite beautiful. Highly recommended. On the eastern side there are green islands and orchid islands. Also very beautiful. Have a great trip!

4:52 Here in Puerto Rico we call that type of fishing “halar (pull) chinchorro”. I grew up in a coastal town where it was common to see it and anyone that wanted to help was welcome by the fishermen. At the end (yes, hours) the fishermen, as a token of appreciation would give the volunteers free fish. As a kid, that was the best part. Fresh fried fish for dinner prepared by my Mom that night. Great memories!

very nice days in Punghu, I only went there once, for the 1992 Formosa Hobie Challenge -but our ferry left from Chiayi, and was only about three hours or so. Enjoy the Adventure!

Ferry the Land Rover to Peng Hu is definitely not something people does everyday. One interesting observation, the beautiful Airbnb you parked G&B at was on Taiwanese news a few days ago. It turned out that the owner never got the appropriate licenses from local government. It's not unusual in Taiwan for that to happen. But this Airbnb is a high profile one and been operating illegally for 16 years.....

Yes it is... There are water restrictions in many of the southern cities. Last year there were no typhoons which usually bring the large amounts of rainfall needed to fill the reservoirs.
