I think Lady sticks around because she understands something about what you are doing. At least she understands that you are helping people, and she thinks she is playing a role. From watching her, I believe she thinks that when she is running ahead she is the one who is finding broken vehicles. In her mind, you guys are hunting. You let her out in an area, and she runs along the trail until she finds someone who needs her pack's help. After you get there she is responsible for watching for danger.

Tomtom, DO NOT put your foot/feet in a position where the vehicle may roll on top of it. About 7 years ago, our truck rolled over both of my feet and parked on top of one. My feet were crushed and now have nerve damage and suffer from pain when standing. Please be careful ❤️

Yes, and along the same lines in this video Matt sitting under the axle when it was up on the jack with no jack stands or even a spare tire wedged in somewhere in case of an issue with the jack bothered me. A few minutes to slide the tire (already off the vehicle) under the axle could prevent a serious mishap with a failed jack, a slippery rock, or somebody touching the jack controls.

Fun fact about nylon zip ties: I have used them for many years and always had to battle the brittle, easily broken zip tie problem. All Nylon is hygroscopic. Meaning that it absorbs water. The solution is to keep them moist. I add a small amount of water to the plastic storage bag. Although it sounds useless to store plastic in a wet environment, after a short time you will notice the ties are much more flexible and more resistant to breaking. 😎

Who else would like to see MOOR trail repairs? Since there is talk of retiring the Banana why not set it up as a repair rig with a welder and a set of tools and repair equipment. I understand the wrecker is set up already but this would breathe new life into the Banana. I love this channel!

I’ve enjoyed all of the people who have worked for Matt and have appeared regularly but I do have to say although I miss seeing those who are no longer with the team that Tom has been the perfect fit. He and Matt really click on camera and he brings so much to the table. Perhaps as a fellow engineer I also appreciate his extensive design and analytical background, yet in life it’s good to balance out his and Matt’s very different approaches to solving problems.

I was a welder for years and never saw batteries used to energize a coated rod. I knew that they could deliver the current but did not know that they held enough charge to do a repair like that.

@@eloiseharbeson2483 If you watch PINE HOLLOW DIAGNOSTICS, Ivan has a battery operated soldering iron that heats to 400 C in less than 30 seconds. He uses it often and a charge lasts quite a long time. So, i guess a battery welder is very possible

i work at my dads shop and his tool box is super organized same with the work trailer for road calls if you leave a tool laying out after a job and he sees its missing from a draw or shelf he will ask where it is haha. gotta respect someone who takes pride in his tools.

Tom & matt in my south we call it 200mph tape/ other wise known as duct tape.. throw some in the glove box cause y'all seem to find a purpose for it all the time and it's very useful sir imo.. Also it comes in yellow so you won't loose it & it matches the paint scheme lol... good day to all.. 🌞 ☕🐢

Duct tape and "100 mph tape" are not the same. Not the same adhesive and certainly not the same cloth backing. It's backed by fine woven nylon fabric that doesn't tear. I've used the real thing.

The two x 12v batteries in series is an old Australian 4x4 legend that the old books tell of. I have even heard of old timers stick welding with one 12volt battery and the jumper cables as the handpiece. Now I have seen it. And I thank you. If you can find it, there is an old ABC (Australian Broadcasting Commission) TV production called "Bush Mechanics" where outback Aborigines find derelict wrecks and make three wheels and a chassis with half an engine cross the Nullabor Desert, because they need to get to town 1200km away. A very good watch it you can find it.

Y’all should do a walk around of the MORR equipment and vehicles y’all use the most. Be cool to just have a little run down of what y’all have built and use and why y’all built them that way. Uh, everyone knows all the vehicles that they use. LIke if you haven't watched every video in the last 5 years or so, then you're not a fan, and you need to go back and watch the old stuff. Take off work, whatever you have to do and start binge watching MOOR and FabRats(cause they are related) and then you'll not need any catching up. Cause in the beginning MORR had zero off road vehicles, only the banana, and it was very weak and not built up at all. So if you watch about 500 or 600 episodes then you will see everything you need to know! Good luck bro

The zipper bags from Hobby Lobby are great for carrying sockets. Either Sharpie or just dye them color coded for SAE/Metric and/or 3/8 or 1/2" drive. Since I have a Cricut, I labeled them with heat transfer reflective vinyl, both to make them easier to find when packing after a repair, and to be just one more thing that makes me and my stuff visible on the side of the road at night.

Very impressive in-field welding. The knuckle is most likely a forged alloy part, which complicates the weld.

Ask Lizzy about Barn sour. It happens with dogs too. Maxx may need a little more water than Lady and Peanut. Bowl of water set out kept full, may make Maxx less antsy. It's fun watching TomTom. I worked for a man that told me on my first day. "We didn't need more help, we just hire new people because they are fun to watch." How do you keep your sockets fresh? Stand-up slickrock comedy. I agree, TomTom should be feeling accomplished. Is this vid with the new axles? I wonder how much effect the extra weight down low effect traction? I was always taught to toss the tire under the frame rail before working on a vehicle, especially when jacking on uneven ground. Just one more thing the rig can land on (maybe before me) if things go wrong.

Often people think old military stuff is indestructible and doesn’t take any maintenance. They don’t think about the fact that the military had large crews to keep the stuff up and going. And, that’s likely a different one. There’s companies out there that use them for tours or rental.

My work load out is the Bauer rolling plastic chest and mid size box on top. I use those harbor freight canvas bags for wrenches, one for metric stuffs for hoshizaki, and one for various socket sets. More durable than plastic sandwich bags and inexpensive at $6 each. Had same bags for over 4 years

Welder here, and you did a great job. If you had the tools, it would have been better to V grind the parts and fill them with weld, but needs must... Any repair you can drive out of the trail is a good repair. For DC welding with GP rods (E6013) which I think you had, you normally run electrode positive, which puts more heating (2/3) into melting the rod and it helps with metal transfer and wetting. If you're low on amps or welding on very heavy metal you can run electrode negative, but you might suffer from porosity as the flux isn't getting hot enough to transfer to weld pool. Some rods like E7018 can run electrode positive but they are harder to use low hydrogen rod (ie probably better for that application anyway). If you do a lot of that kind of stuff in the future, I'd expect a small generator welder and air compressor would be in your future. They don't have to be anything special, just enough to run some air tools and weld stuff up. You will kill normal cranking batteries using them that way for long.

You should at least use the tire as a safety slide under the hummer frame in case the jack looses pressure. Which can and does happen. The way I saw it was you would have at least lost one or two legs if that jack gave out. Love the videos please be safe.

The Jack was not holding the vehicle. I left the smallest amount of pressure on the jack, so as not to disturb the cribbing that was underneath it that I needed for level lift. There’s a gigantic jack stand that is standing firm through the whole video. Thanks for watching !

l can't figure out why people don't use the wheel as a precaution as its right there available to be used. Vehicles on an angle like that on one stand can move forward and fall off the stand. Not trying to be critical here. Just offering some friendly advice to keep you safe. Rory uses this method all the time. We all have to do sketchy stuff every now and then. Reducing or eliminating risk is the name of the game.

Hey guys whenever you remove a wheel to work on the truck lay it under the truck close to where you are working, just one more way to protect yourself in case the truck slips off the jack or stands. Great video!

I have a battery powered flux core mig welder that has two small motor cycle batteries. It will last for about 10 minutes of steady welding. I used the heck out of that welder til the batteries went to lead-acid heaven. I still have it and plan to build a bigger car size battery box for more longevity. Also adding an inverter for charging from 12 volts , a light, (maybe a mini bar)😂 Great repair, great video!

Be proud of any battery welding. I was about 12 when I used 1 battery, jumper cables and a coat hanger to weld a skateboard wheel back on. Inspired by mcgyver. I haven’t even attempted it again in decades.

Truck lug nuts are 19 (3/4), 21 (13/16) and 22 (or 7/8) generally. They are all close enough you just need one set generally. Matt ya should just get a truck set of tools, something you don't have to think about what's in there. Super impressed with Tom's welding! Reminded me of that old McGyver episode where he welded a con-rod with some coins and jumper cables haha. Love the trail repairs and would love to see more of them since that's what most of us are doing when a rig breaks down on a trail.

I weld it with batteries 30 years ago it worked.. out on the trail.. Bear Lake, California, close to the Sierra track..

If welding in the field becomes more of a thing you may want to check out the fronius accupocket 150 it has an onboard battery you can weld something like 10 1/8 7018 rods and can be charged on 110 so in a pinch you can charge it with an inverter in your rig, also they weld really nice!

I actually practiced using two batteries with jumper cables and a coupe of short connecting cables and a vice grip to hold the welding rod. It went....fair to middling. I have two batteries in my vehicle, so as long as you have battery jumpers, a couple of small connecting wires, vice grip, and a couple welding rods (and maybe welding shades), you can do the method Tom Tom showed.

I love the videos. But this was hard since I work on military equipment and I have taught my guys pull the plug take out bolt remove shaft and drive back to get it repaired but glad you guys are always willing to fix and work through the challenges
