My Apple Watch Ultra is basically just an extension of my phone during work when I can’t keep my phone on me. This is because I work in healthcare and don’t want to pull out my phone when I’m chairside. Outside of work and working out, the two things on my wrist are either my submariner or my bb58. Apple Watch is just a tool for me and can’t replace a traditional watch. I’d wear a Seiko 5 or a Casio over my Apple Watch.

I’ll take the Rolex every time.

In third world countries, wearing an Apple Watch is equivalent to wearing a Vacheron 222 in USA or UK, so you could say that there are a lot of people that wear it because it is cool.

I honestly thought I'd never own a smart watch, I'm 20 so not because I don't get it but I hated the whole having to charge it thing and lack of durability. But a year ago I found a garmin dive watch which seemed magical, I've always loved the idea of having a dive computer that's also an everyday watch that does all the other things when I'm not using it's super power 😂 and so charging it once a week felt like an easy compromise, I'm glad more smart watches have dive computer capabilities

I think people need both. Different purposes and on days you just want to kick back, an apple watch is an excellent watch and on events or days you dress your sundays best, a mechanical watch (doesnt have to be a rolex) is best to wear. I find the convenience of wearing an apple watch ultra because its wayy lighter than my Sub or my Skyd and its awesome to receive calls and notifs and workout with but there are days that i would like to get away from the social media side and constant notifs and this is where a mechanical watch comes in :D

Finally. Someone admitting that the high tech watches are eating into the luxury mechanical watch industry. Between the Ultra and Garmin style watches I believe the luxury mechanical watch industry is in for a long fight.

The Rolex is ancient, much less accurate than the Apple Watch Ultra, and much less functional.

Im an Apple Watch user since 2015 but if I could choose between the Rolex and the Watch Ultra, I would pick the Rolex. That Rolex might wont measure your heart rate, but the Rolex will work in the next 40 years.

Most people who buy Apple Watch ultras are not people who will be diving or going on extreme adventures. It’s people who like tech, much like those who like watches.

Interestingly, the Apple Watch is what got me back into wearing watches. I now only wear it when exercising, otherwise I have on one of my automatics.

My wife bought me the Apple Watch and I just basically wear it for work as a glorified expensive step counter other times I wear my mechanical watches

I have a speed master pro and now an Apple Watch series 8. I held off from buying an Apple Watch because i thought that it would take away from the entire idea of a basic mechanical watch. Do I wear the Apple Watch more now? Yes. But I’ve come to the realisation that it’s okay to. It just means when I put the Speedy on it makes it that much more special. In all honesty having the apple watch has actually reduced the times i pull my phone out to check notifications so its a win in my book

I recently purchased both of these watches ( well , sub date , but you get the idea) . I wear the Ultra for exercise , sleep tracking , travel and as I live in London , when I don’t want to be stabbed 🥲 other wise the Sub still get decent wrist time

I can't see me buying a smart watch. I used to have a smartphone which was annoying enough; alerting me to Facebook posts, emails, etc. The idea of having that on my wrist would annoy the hell out of me. The decided to switch to a simple Nokia phone instead. Paired with a watch from my collection I'm a lot happier and at ease.

I view my Ultra as a next generation tool watch. I can check notifications and email in a quick glance in a meeting without appearing rude. It helps me track my vitals and activity. It helps me navigate streets or getting out of the train without constantly looking at a screen. It also is a tool watch in the traditional sense where I can go on adventures in the ocean or trails or bike with it. However, there’s some aspects that I prefer in a traditional analog tool watch. For example, I’d prefer the tachymeter and chrono of my chronograph watches. There’s a delight in tracking my flights on my speedy that I just would not get from an Apple Watch. The finishings and polish of the Ultra doesn’t give the feeling of jewelry that the analog counter parts have. But that’s ok and helps with the everyday feel, where say a Panerai might still feel too gaudy. So to think of it, consider an Apple Watch Ultra as the watch Q made with the neat tricks to save Bond, if he needn’t a suit and might have his phone die.

So, i was selling my apple watch in favour of getting more wrist time out of my mechanical/auto/quartz collection. Then the ultra came along, i had to have it. Cool factor. Titanium. Looks. The first time i went in a pool and it auto switched to depth mode, and i didnt know it was going to do that…..It definitely gives my other watches less on wrist time, its handy, i can have my airpods in and push through my tunes without having to access my phone, all from a touch of my watch while i work out, or walk, or whatever….I can drive and have the watch dictate my route with voice commands and handy haptic feedback to remind me theres a change of direction about to occur, so i can keep humming away to my favourite tune while simultaneously tuning out until that reminder kicks in….and the list goes on. While i bought a couple of bling straps and a subdued one, i also tend to stick to the bright yellow rubber dive strap, to allow other Ultra users to spot another member of the club, a bit like the Jeep wave. And it works. All in all i love the thing. But i do have to remember to take it off, hide it, and put on the speedy when i want to just tell the time and admire a different kind of beauty. And it IS just different.

I’ve had an Apple Watch for years, and I’ve never ever used it for any training or sports other than its timer function. And I’m an ex competitive athlete of several sports… I’ve never used the step counting thing either. I mountaineer and I only tried the route tracking function once. Same with the navigation function. I’m going back to old-school mechanical watches, especially after realizing that the tech companies are evil and criminal. (Oh, and I’m not old either)

Rolex is a watch that people who are successful and they can afford to buy one, and once owned you can hand it down to your children, its like a prize, the apple watch is a smart watch with a limited shelf life we only need to look at the first apple watch and that edition made of 18-karat yellow gold its now a paper weight lol The ultra is Titanium so what I have several Titanium watches in my current collection and you can find quality pieces for less than a few hundred pounds lol

Apple watches aren’t cool. But then neither is a Rolex anymore. Both are flaunting gaudiness…in different ways. It’s a function of image…of the image of the typical wearer…rather than the actual watch quality or functionality. Perhaps that’s why today’s 007 wears an Omega. 🤔

As someone who owns two luxury timepieces (Blancpain, Omega) that I love deeply, my Apple Watch Ultra is my everyday grinder. For my lifestyle, working out, job sights and travel, it offers too much in regards to keeping me connected to what’s important in my life, or whatever I’m doing in real time. I’ve found out you can’t put a price on that. Ironically, my luxury timepieces I enjoy the most now when I’m at home truly free from the world’s everyday grind.

Unfortunately Rolex has devalued their brand image to the point where wearing one people assume your a drug dealer, pimp or wearing a fake. I wholesale stopped wearing my sub because Rolex has gained a major image problem. I prefer my planet ocean as it doesnt attract unwanted attention

Since I got an Apple Watch I never looked back to normal watches. The functionality of the Apple Watch is extremely useful to me and whenever I tried to switch back I always missed the features of the Apple Watch

1. I just do not need or want to be so connected that I have to have a smart watch. 2. You will never spend any time gazing at and appreciating the look, style, masterful construction and beauty of a smart watch. Rolex Submariner hands down.

It’s not even a comparison. They both r in different category. Rolex = Luxury, Apple Watch = Utility. By that logic jewellery has no utility, still people buy it.

I bought the first Apple Watch as well as edition 4. The first one, I wore more than average. But working in Tech myself, I just longed for old fashioned mechanical watches on my wrist. To balance myself so to speak. I hardly wear my Apple Watch anymore, it sits beside my bed functioning as a wakeup clock. Once awake, it's Grand-Seiko time 🙂

I don't understand, why do guys at Watchfinder have this obsession with Rolex? I'm not talking about how many videos they make about them because I understand that any title with the word rolex gets a lot of clicks but the fact that on many occasions they make comments like "everybody wants a rolex"/"we all want a rolex" or that "rolex daytona is the most iconic chronograph watch of all time" (this one especially made me a little bit angry considering how Speedmaster is much more recognizable, has much more historic importance and generally is by most considered to be THE chronograph watch). I don't get the Rolex hype, all of their watches look so chunky and ugly, especially the ones with the cyclops lens which is a really horrendously looking feature. I like the Milgauss and Cellini because they actually try to look interesting but all other of their watches just look like a fat metal bracelet that an old guy without any taste would wear on his yacht.

I am sorry to brake it to you, but the only thing Rolex represents is old technology fighting for survival through marketing and perception of value

The real difference between a Rolex Submariner and an Apple Watch Ultra is that the Rolex will still work and new Rolexes will be sold a 100 years from today.

I use a cheaper smart watch to track my sleep, but during the day I honestly prefer a regular watch. I found a smart watch with all its notifications and features just distracted me and ruined my moments of focus. So I think both have their place but I just can’t do a daily wear smart watch.

Earlier in 2022 until just this January, I was really thinking hard about buying a smartwatch(not apple) as my everyday wear, but I just couldn't justify buying a 200-300 USD watch that will become obsolete as my old CRT tv next year. So I bought a Seiko instead. Don't get me wrong, I'm a techie person and update flagship phones every 2 years, but it's always been different with watches for me, I never saw the appeal or the utility of a smartwatch, tracking steps, oxygen levels, and alarms doesn't seem much of a selling point for me when I could just use my phone. It would be ridiculous buying a smartwatch just for telling time because that smartwatch will age like vinegar like 5 year old smartphones.

I’m the anomaly. I bought a Tudor Black Bay while everyone in the office wear these Apple Watches. I wear jeans and t shirts to work and the Apple Dumpling gang wear trendy skin tight clothes. I’ll stay in my lane I like my Tudor.

I've had my Ultra for 3 months now. Just like my other Apple watches, it serves the purpose of getting notifications without having to take out my phone while at work. The Ultra is different though. I don't wear it to bed to check my sleeping, I take it off and turn it off around 8 pm. In my case, I'm getting at least 5 days of battery life and sometimes 6. I also find myself doing something that I never did with any other Apple Watch, leaving my phone at home when I go out. The best part of that is I'm not constantly looking at my phone all day. It keeps me present when I'm out to eat with friends or whatever it is that I'm doing. I have a few nice mechanical watches that I love. My nicest watch is an Omega Aqua Terra small seconds that I absolutely love, and have a few others. But, since getting the Ultra, I really don't wear the others anymore. It's become my every day and then some.

I wear a fitbit charge 4 on one wrist, and an omega seamaster 300m on the other. A smartwatch + watch is a bit overkill for me, but so far a fitness tracker + watch works fine. The are days though, when the tracker is charging, that i forget about it and don't wear it for days at a time. But I never forget my omega, and miss wearing it more, even at home when no one else is looking. They serve totally different functions. One, as a wearable computer, to serve until its replaced. The other, a constant, happy reminder of the finer things in life. Fact of the matter is, the smartwatch is not memorable, holds no sentiment, not valued when passed down between generations. Was considering the tag heuer connected as a possible go between, but didn't because it gets obsolete as well. Maybe if luxury watch makers did a 1 for 1 subscription basis for a smartwatch.

The Point of the Apple Watch is it's an information und medical device. And it has a unicorn dial. The best part is that you have a second wrist for a real watch. For me it is a automatic mechanical marvel I love. So I wear 2 watches. One tells me the time and the other one pleases my eyes. The Apple Watch is a brilliant piece of technology. But no one will keep an Apple Watch for so many years as a mechanical watch. Who will inherit an Apple Watch? A mechanical watch is passed down many generations. The conclusion is that both have their justification.

The inevitable obsolescence of the technology is what keeps me away from this. I actually really like the Ultra, it's ridiculously over-engineered for what my daily use is. I like what it is built for and something about that appeals to me massively as someone who lives a really sedate life. Same as a Submariner really. I'll never take mine diving or live like James Bond. But it's just cool and I like the way it makes me feel. The mechanical watch however, will make me feel like that for potentially decades. The Apple Watch Ultra will go into a drawer in a few years time, alongside my older Apple Watches when they get damaged or the battery goes flat, or when the software just can't hack it anymore.

I also drive a Tesla 😅 The nicest thing about the Ultra is that it’s got all my credit cards on it, can make phone calls over cellular and I can leave home with just two watches and nothing else if I want.

In the urban jungle, any watch lends cred and is a must. In the office, at the bar, on the bus. Having said that, an Apple watch denotes tech savvy and a guy with a purpose. It's not a bad look. Wearing a Rolex is a bit more tricky. The wearer is trying to be noticed and it could invite trouble if in the wrong neighborhood, but a Rolex could also be a draw for a sophisticated lady. For me personally, too much attention is verboten. I prefer my bronze Hamilton Khaki or my Apple iWatch Model 3 w/cellular.

These Apple smartwatches are not Timepiece it’s a Gadget which cannot be passed on to next generation. As sales specialist I know how people are expecting so many features from Swiss timepiece but there is huge difference between highly skilled watchmakers handcrafted pice of art and machine made gadget!

Comparing an Apple Watch to a Rolex is like comparing a bike to a car. Not saying one is better than the other, just the they might be transport but totally different experiences.

The Apple Watch has no soul and no aura. The Rolex has both.

I will stick with my quality Tudor, Tag Heuer, Tissot, Seiko analogue watches anyday,they will out last any of these plastic things,and they don't need continuous charging every day 👍 ⌚

I wear both in the same time on different wrists. I used to wear classic watches and than got addicted to the Apple Watch and stoped wear other watches. Now I just wear classic watch on my left wrist and the AppleWatch on the right one but reversed so it is more discret.

Let's be fair. The Apple watch is a training partner that can measure your heart rate, as well as your oxygen levels, map runs for you even without a phone, or call the ambulance for your grandfather after he fainted in the park. While speaking on stage, you don't reach into your back pocket to look at the time on your phone, so having a watch of any kind is still practical. There are so many things that a iphone just can't do that an Apple watch can. You may say the Ultra is overkill. But when you are training and running all the time, you want to see the numbers clearly.
