The corruption around "Māori Wards" goes further than just this. In 2022 Naania Mahuta introduced legislation to exempt Māori wards from meeting the "plus or minus 10%" requirement for establishing a ward. Now we have councilors, non-representative of the local population, that can sway and control decisions for EVERYONE in their area.

What value & value for money is paying yet even more people who were never elected in the first instance.Which to me seems to make a mockery of having council elections in the first place. This ward thing smacks of arse kissing. The majority decide what they want.I see no issue with a referendum.The only reason you wouldn't want one, is the thought the outcome wouldn't be in his favour. Do maori even want one & what value will it bring to them

Councillors are coerced. This needs to be put to a referendum. No one should be given a seat at the table due to race; only merit. Māori candidates need to run like everyone else

Maori wards in Local Government started in the Bay of Plenty Regional Council, in year 2000, - in all the elections since the turnout has been less than 10 percent and those Maori on the Maori electoral roll are unable to vote for candidates in General seats.

So only Maori on the Maori role can decide what’s best for Maori.Any Maori on the general role is not a real Maori. He’s Taking away the power of Maori by splitting their vote. (Or do Maori on the Maori role get two votes?) which ever why you look at it they are treating Maori as inferior.(RACISM)

You can't tell just from a persons name if they are Maori or not. Google the current Maori All Blacks squad, for example. How many of their names "sound Maori" ?

already maori elected to represent other maori.... the problem is theyre not loyal to iwi. these are really IWI wards not maori wards, if they called them what they really are it would go down like a cupof cold sick.
