Hello. We have an old Maytag washer (model LA212) , and a tech informed me that it's leaking from the drum, and that the part is no longer available. Is it time to purchase another washer, or is there a drum on Amazon or elsewhere, that would be compatible with the Maytag LA212? Thanks.

I fixed it. I replaced a hose which had gotten stiff and less flexible, along with the hose clamps. You easily saved me $100-150. THANK YOU.

Good info. We have a 30 year old Maytag washer and rather than replacing it, I'd prefer to fix it, so I'll give it a shot.

Thanks for the great video having a similar Maytag Washer. I was able to pinpoint the leak which was at the injector. Replaced it quite easily by purchasing the rubber housing at a local parts store for $17cad

If the issue is the tubs bearing seal, you might consider calling a pro. I had my, if I remember correctly, SG 1000, top dryer bottom washer leak water badly. This was about 2 decades ago. Sears charged $500, they only delivered the part on the appointed day. Took another day or so for the guy to show. Got half off because of my time off work to be in. They have over 100 service folks in the L.A. area but only 2 work on Maytag. The cap at the bottom of the spindle has to be broken off, frozen into place. Hit the spindle and it's over. Needless to say they got the job done. 😮 Advice I got from the repairman. Powdered detergent is largely cardboard that would ruin the bearing/seal. Use liquid detergent only.

1980 Maytag here ! Still working 10000% like brand new. Replaced the drain hose and fixed a beginning to rust tub drain pipe with WELD plumber soldering epoxy... Good for ANOTHER 42 years !

We have 34 year old maytag, never miss the beat, just started pushing grease into the washings. Wife bought new one,(asko) but I don't feel like trowing old one on the rubbish tip., can it be fixed?

I have this model and my leak is coming from the top right side from the plastic piece that attaches to the drain hose. No hose leak.

gutted my injector , inserted a piece of 1/2 inch copper about 2 inches longer than injector housing , clamped original hoses on each end of copper , and fastened injector housing to machine as from factory . near as i could tell , it's just a backflow siphon preventer , and you couldn't fill tub full enough to allow back siphoning anyway .

Looking for a leak on a washing machine can be a nightmare. I had a massive puddle from my Hoover Electron and it took me forever to find it. It turned out to be from a small pinhole on the tub.

Hey Scott, I have a similar washer and I do have a leak from the injector. Also, I have noticed the clothes smelling when removed from the washer. Is there a way to clean the drain or anything to try to get rid of the smell? Thanks, Scott

I would try using a stronger detergent like Tide. Many of the Eco detergents can leave the clothes smelling musty.

I think I have the same machine, Do you know anything about Save/Drain buttons not working? I believe it is a Sud saver machine model A512S. The button is normally on drain but this button isnt working and is using the Save pump and spilling the water all over the floor!

I have an old Maytag Dependable Care washer and lately it's begun to leak a little water several days after I've used it. It seems to leak at the front left corner but that could be from my uneven floor. I had a repairman come out and he couldn't find the source. He said the machine was unbelievably clean and well worth fixing. This is the best machine I've ever had. Does anyone know what this problem might be? Thank you Scott for your valuable info.

Sounds like it's the injector assembly (maybe just the sock), that's where it's located.

Thanks! This is the exact model that I have. The hose coming out of the bottom of the tub came off. What is this hose called? It just looks like a rubber hose. Do I need to get that specific hose? Actually, the current hose could probably just be put back on, but it's dirty, full of black gunk.

I was letting my Maytag washer, which is exactly like yours, fill up with water for a large load of clothes when after done filling and sitting for several minutes while I was adding clothes, I heard a small pop like noise and then heard water leaking into the metal enclosure followed by an amount of water maybe a quart or so leaking out onto the floor. Then, it appeared to stop flowing or leaking water. I let the washer wash the load. Any ideas what that pop was? It was like the sound of a valve maybe opening. It did this once before a few days ago but I didn't witness the leak. I found the wet carpet though. We just replaced the tub seal a couple months ago and it has been working fine since the replacement or at least until this new leak.

We have this exact model. The injector valve has suddenly started overflowing when filling the tub. No idea why. Yes, we took the injector out and soaked it in vinegar and then reassembled. It's STILL gushing out. Why would it do that? I can order the replacement tube, valve and nozzle for about $45. Not so cheap, but better than a repairman or new unit.

I have the same washer the drum inside moves off center so it is not flushed with the opening and the machine would stop. I would slightly move the drum opening so it would be flushed with the opening then it would work again. Any idea what goes wrong.

When the top and drum is not level and flush, the machine’s lid switch and or internal ignition switch don’t allow machine to work. The parts are triggered by that lid switch. There may be other triggers but that works for me.

My sister has a LAT5005AAW KB, apparently manufactured in 1994. I am going to replace the fill valve, (found a NOS one on ebay!) Does her model open like in this video? I thought it just had clips on top that you shoved a blade in to release the lid but I might be wrong. 🤔 😬

I have the same washer. Mine is not draining all right and leaking. I still see soap at the bottom and the clothes are still very wet. Would this video fix the problem?

I have the same Maytag you have on the thumbnail of this video. I have a problem where the machine does not spin when its about to rinse and it makes loud noises and shrieks. If I dont turn it off it will start to smoke a lot and smell like rubber. Any thing I should check first?

@@ScottTheFixItGuyChannel Thank you. We decided to take apart the machine and check the tranny, and we found a lot of grooves eaten off on the top of the tranny. I looked online to see if there is a replacement for the helical but I couldn't find one and there was a listing for a OEM one for about $500. there is also surface rust on the bottom of the machine that might eat through. We are going to junk it. It lasted more than 35 years with us lol I would love to find one in a good condition again.

Mine is leaking from the tub to pump hose. Can I use automotive heater hose? What is the diameter of the tub to pump hose? Mine washer is exactly like the one in your video.

@@ScottTheFixItGuyChannel I took it off and measured the nipple on the pump and the tub. One inch on the pump and 3/4 on the tub. So one inch inside diameter hose will work. Lowes has all kinds of hose. But anyway I flexed the old hose in every direction and got lots of pliability back in the hose so it's working fine now but I'll grab 2 feet of one inch inside diameter hose to keep on hand if it leaks again. The ones sold by the washing machine parts places are wayyyy over priced.

It’s pretty easy to do. First remove the two Phillips head screws located in the lower right and lower left corner of the front panel. Next pull the front panel out from the bottom to about 45° until the top clips release. Next look near the front left in front right corners you’ll see a small bolt that needs to be removed from each corner and then the topLid will hinge up allowing you to work.

I was wondering about something else. If the belts on the bottom are loose, will they prevent the washer from spinning and agitating? My bigger belt may be too stretched.

The rubber degrades due to the chlorine in the water. I would replace it. They are cheap.

No problem, all you have to do is replace the cold and hot intake valves.

Hi Nancy, You need to remove the two Phillips head screws from the bottom of the front panel and then pull the front panel off and then you need to remove two bolts that are located at the upper right and left corners of the top panel. Then you should be able to lift the panel off.

It’s supposed to allow better flow of water going into the washing machine by breaking any kind of air pressure. It’s affectively an air gap. They often have a leaking problem though after about eight years.

@@ScottTheFixItGuyChannel I replaced the Damper Pads (spin cycle was crazy bouncing)and then had issues with the drive belt slipping. Got a new Drive Belt (old one was 30 years of age). Now when I have an Extra Large Load and it starts the spin cycle, the high water level is pushing back through and leaking out of the Injector. It is not a lot of water. Currently we run nothing more than Large loads and have no issues with leaking. Any thoughts on this? I did NOT replace the Water Pump drive belt and it does NOT appear to be slipping... my thought was that if the water was pumped out quicker that it wouldn't back flow into the injector. ????

Ditto for my purchased new in 1990 Maytag Top loader and in 32 years, spent $250 for repairs. I’ll remove front cover and it’s like an old vibrate car, can see all the parts and no computer to deal with. All my neighbors laugh at me but then share horror stories of their JUNK appliances that fail after ONE YEAR! WTH! It’s going to be a sad day when input has to be replaced with that JUNK,

Yeah those pre-90's models... Access from removable metal plates from REAR. THEY ARE TOUGH TO WORK ON UNLESS YOU DISASSEMBLE ALL. (Which is too much of a job)

The problem with the majority of these videos is they never tell you what model they are fixing. I've seen 3 different ways to open a "Maytag" so far. Tried to get a glimpse of what this machine looked like, but only got a look at your tools...😞
