Brilliant, I love the easy to replace battery design from Mazda. Much easier than my Toyota key fob so already gone up in my estimation Mazda as a brand!

Great. Can someone tell me how to take the battery out when it doesn’t have a cover? It’s stuck behind tiny metal tongs (?)

I have a 2013 CX 5 and the battery is not removable without breaking two tabs off the side of the battery holder. This was not obvious, but you'll see two little indentions where some wire snips can get to. Snip them off there and the battery can be removed.

You only need to reprogram the key if it is not the original one

Mazda should have used CR2032. They last longer. Only 0.7mm difference, same cost.

My fob looks the same but the battery is locked in place. It seems that it can't be removed. Do I need to buy a new remote ? That would be very dumb.

UPDATE : The battery is locked in place, but i was able to break the plastic to install a new battery. Working fine now.

If your battery dies you can open your car doors with it. I also will use it to lock the doors when I need to run into a store super quick but my dog is in the car. I can leave the fob in the car with it running, but lock the doors.

Amazon, eBay or from any store like Target, Walmart, Safeway, King Soopers etc. Look for it in the battery section. They’re normally in a packaging similar to Over the Counter tablets. I cannot add a picture in the KZfaq comments but if you search for “CR2025” in Google, you will see many options to buy online and see what the packaging looks like.
