The Mazda MX-5 ND3 Miata, like many other refreshed or updated cars before it, is subject to car enthusiast controversy. Is the the ND3 Miata any better than the ND2, or is this just a marketing exercise from Mazda to hype up small or minimal changes? Let’s remove the noise for a second and discuss objectively the pros and cons of the car and how it compares to the pre-refresh, the ND2.

We should be so thankful to Mazda for keeping this a real roadster. Every thing is still real. Fuel, manual, analog gauges, hand brake. There’s no competition. I have mine 2024. It is what it is. Unbelievable fun. Thank you Mazda. Excellent review by the way 😊

Too many people treat their own opinions as facts, I can only imagine how much of a better place this world would be if no one ever do this kind of nonsense. ND3 is an improved version of the 4th gen Miata, simple as that.

@@jubbalandcars do you think your expenstionally bad at listening to lectures? according to hagtery crumudgeon podcast, new miata has less movement while its at center, and doesnt tend to move as quickly when moving left right. rear doesnt bounce as much like when you move quick to the right, the rear right spring all bounce back afte rbeign compressed, and if too intense, this can cause extreme left and right bouncing back and forth causing loss of traction , where you need to keep front wheel pointing straight with not power. but this bouncing problems isnt new with nd3, its bit better than before but still a problem if your driving fast.

I can only say I daily a MX-5. Had a 22 for 1 1/2 years and it was great but... I just took delivery on a 24 and it's exactly what you say. I noticed the difference pulling out of the lot and said (out loud, to myself) wow this is better! The steering combined with the new diff is an outstanding improvement by anyone's standards. For lack of a better term, it's more better. I understand people's loyalty but try and keep an open mind. I did, and was blown away.

I think Jason Camisa in the latest carmudgeon show episode got the ND3 right. his take was basically that the ND1&ND2 were too twitchy and the rear of the car was too easily unsettled. he said that normally he would be against a manafacturer making a rack less direct on center but that the ND really needed it to be a more enjoyable car to drive. of course I am paraphrasing so probably got some stuff wrong, so i'd just watch the part of the episode about the ND3

I wonder if there is some variance between ND3s? The throttle house guys have both owned and driven many miatas, and drove the ND2 back-to-back with the ND3 when they reviewed it and reported in that video that maybe maybe there is a tiny difference. @@jubbalandcars I can't comment on the ND3 since I have yet to drive one, but on my stock ND2, adjusting the alignment (primarily toe and camber) made a pretty noticeable difference to responsiveness and grip. I can't really say it improved feedback though; I still just rely on the chassis to communicate things rather than from the wheel. While not any worse than other cars, stock ND alignment can vary quite a lot and still be within spec.

Some of the bigger YT channels, not going to name names, are adding to this confusion. A few months ago, when I was a noob, I used to take their word at face value. But now that I understand that a lot of them invest in cars, or want to at least protect their investment/cost of purchase, and that will cause them to spew out misinformation. Or maybe the dealership told them to say so, else they won't get another car to review next time. Another big fallacy that gets promulgated all the time: XYZ is the last of something-something. Yeah, there's not going to be another all-gasoline STi or Camaro because Subaru and Chevrolet don't like money! Whatever! Off topic, you went from a Casio to a Rolex. I aint there yet 🤣

Yeah, when it comes to any forums or car reviewers, I think the biggest problem to me is prefacing the vehicles/motorcycles you have owned previously to give the audience some basis of your evolutionary relevance that correlates with the authenticity of your review of said car. I have shown dogs, owned and race miatas, own mustangs, have a bad watch obsession. Own too many. Clubs, forums, now social media. Too many know it alls. Stick to your opinions. Cars and watches go together. Found a Straum opphav green dial that matches the dark highland green on my 19 Bullitt. Hard color to match! Have a cool pic of my GS black birch next to the white Q ball shifter.

I guess your take on this makes sense. I just don't have an issue with the steering of my 2023 MX% Sport. And I have no concerns with my current standard rear diff. I am trying to learn to heel toe better though. But i'd believe the steering is more precise on center and Im sure the new limited slip diff is even better. I=Either 2023 or 2024 everyone should try and get one. This cars are amazing and I got a good deal with .09 financing on my new 2023.

The big improvement that I've seen in Kevin is not talking about double clutching being a cinch. Like why did you ever talk about double clutching in non ancient cars? Were all your synchros kaput or something?

Not a owner of a Miata but disregarding people when they criticize the increase in price and theoretical better performance as a cope is so disingenuous. Also with the thumbnail saying "Deal with it" is such a petty thing to say like people have to deal with increase price and can't complain or criticize about it. Time will tell if the ND3 is better.

Price increase of $825 is negligible and expected with inflation. The cope bias is a common occurrence with new or improved vehicles

I don't have a BRZ/86 so I don't care but yeah the update was wacked with an ugly stick. I have an ND2 the steering and LSD are fine for driving on the road which is what I do but I would love to have that bigger screen and touch screen hell yeah that's what I want

My problem with the Gr86 is that it’s too nice haha. But I’m just owning the old school driver vibe now. Got into watches and I’m happy with my “cheap” Citizen Eco drive sport. People just need to be true to themselves.
