You gotta act really excited and say “oooh! Thank you! I’m going to save this bad boy for later when (insert scenario eg after lunch, for a pick me up after the 3pm sleepies, as a treat after I finish X task, etc...). It saves faces with the kind coworker and the caramel can be ditched later on.

i ALWAYS prefer someone tell me "thanks, I love the thought but I don't like that particular thing" and then _if_ I follow up like 'oh okay what kind DO you like?' then you can suggest a vague category that you do like, and I might grab you some. it's hard doing gifts these days because everyone has access to every product. and it's awkward to sound presumptuous or ungrateful...

A really great way to respond to the next caramel would be: "You know I think I'm losing my taste for these caramels and I wouldn't want you to give me one when someone else would appreciate it a lot more." But this show's never really been about effective advice.
