That's because until the 60s, no one thought woman could enjoy sex, so only male gay sex was illegal. That's actually true, lesbian sex wasnt illegal because the men in change in the 1400s thought it couldn't exist.

(Just a heads up, while the Yowie has similar folkloric status in Australia as the Sasquatch does in America, it actually has its roots in Indigenous oral history, it's not like the same legend just with a different name, it's its own Thing and has its own history. Its name is fucking hilarious these days lmao)
