If you're my high school they don't care if you're poor you still have to shell out $200 to RENT a robe from the one (1) specific company they allow to make their graduation robes

A couple college friends and I went as high school graduates for Halloween one year. Wore the gown and made caps out of beer boxes. Went around saying stuff like “You gotta promise me we’ll stay in touch” and “This is gonna be the best summer of our lives” One of my favorite Halloweens

People DEFINITELY do Edward 40 hands. And yes peeing is definitely the hardest part, sometimes a buddy must assist you, it's a bonding experience for sure. One of the least expected difficulties though is how incredibly cold your hands get.

Dude. The only reason anyone should ever buy a cap and gown is if they are becoming a college professor and will have to wear the attire that matches their level of education every year when they graduate another class out. My HS graduation got it right. We showed up to the place where the ceremony was happening, they had had a closet full of caps and gowns that we wore for that night and then returned before we left, and they had a list of people who got special tassels and stuff for academic achievements which they handed out after we were dressed. We got to keep the tassels. No gouging us for money for the stupidest outfits we'll ever have our pictures taken in while sober, just a nice stress-free celebration.

late stage capitalism is rough. Honestly even our education system is designed to keep you in debt and jobs only pay out in correlation to the debt accumulated for the diploma needed for the job. Honestly life here is a scam.

Actual answer: one week of Halloween at work 2 years ago I wore roughly 4 costumes; in one I used the robe and a turtleneck and dressed as Snape👍🏽

Eeeeh. So many military personnel end up getting degrees during service. This just makes me wonder if those individual should wear their robes over/under the jacket of their Blues.
