Performances by both Bad Boy and Death Row were incredible and I remember clearly that EVERYONE in the building was bumping their heads and screaming when Snoop and'em were on stage. New York actually loved Death Row that night and the beef was just a CEO thing that did not have anything to do with fans. Clubs were playing Biggie as much as Dr. Dre that summer. That was Hip-Hop and the streets were rocking it as far as it was dope. Eiht is right when he says that many artists were friends and respected themselves no matter when they were from. In my opinion, it was Suge who started all that shit and at the end of the day, it did not represent what real heads actually felt.

Nobody talks about how that same NY crowd dissed Outkast (and basically Southern hip hop as a whole) by booing them when they won. NY needed to get put in their place for always looking down on anything that wasn't from up top. Fast forward 10yrs to 2005 and the south was outselling everything moving. All NY had when it came to moving numbers was Jay and 50 by that point. And the rest is history ⚰️
@rainfall1drop11 ай бұрын
Nobody dissed the South. The crowd thought Cuban Links was gonna win because that was one of the greatest albums of all time. They weren't booing Outkast. They were booing the Source for dissing Raekwon and Ghost. But I see how Outkast wouldn't have realized that.
@qbconnect288311 ай бұрын
@@rainfall1drop The argument of who deserved the award is subjective. They were both amazing classic albums and Rae is a legend in my book. BUT to hear booes getting louder even after the winners reached the podium to accept the award.. major disrespectful 🐂💩. You can't let that go unchecked. We was all proud of them winning and really proud of 3000 speaking up. That lit a fire down south that began a new era in the battle for supremacy. Side note: Competition is good in any arena cause it makes everybody bring their best

@futureflavors20511 ай бұрын
Exactly. We took Hip Hop and the awards seriously like it was elevating us above the street shit. Hip Hop is not gangbanging and vice versa. Ppl try to compare NYC style gangs to Cali but it's different. The reason WC gangs can come together to unify is because they're essentially factions of 2 or 3 bigger gangs. NYC streets doesn't have that kind of unity
