It's sad not getting paid but when you're starting out; you get paid in other ways til it becomes profitable; the best way though is having a lawyer look at your situation. Dk Gregory RIP spoke about entertainers and it wasn't nice and he was an entertainer himself. @@joeswanson733 I just added it up. 60k x $5 a tape (if that was the charge) would’ve been 300k that year. That was damn good money in ‘88 just selling out the trunk. That’s the equivalent of over 700k in 2022. He definitely could’ve paid those girls. But Hammer got “balanced” as time went by. He was on top of the world one year and a broke, laughing-stock the next. That’s why I always try to do right by people: I’d rather pay now than pay later. 🤷🏽‍♀️

Thanks for another post. I remember them in the late 80s. I was an 8th grader when I watch Hammer's first video, "Let's Get It Started"! Then in the fall of 1989, I checked Oaktown 3.5.7 first video. Back in the days, they're BADASS!

It's crazy to think Hammer had about 200 people alone on his payroll for just personal staffing(chefs, maids, security, etc.) but NONE of the dancers were even on that list to be paid for their performances & all their hard work, as well as their direct dedication to him, for such a long period of time. Many thanks for this video and backstory. These girls kicked butt back in the day with their rap, dance routines and unique style. They deserved much more than they got. It’s sad to learn the truth sometimes but explains a lot and helps answer open questions like what ever happened to them? Would also love to see a video for ‘Queen of Dance’ B Angie B. She could sing AND dance, in a category all her own. There are a few good live performances of her on YT but her best live was on the BET special ‘BET Coca Cola Summer of Stars,’ which aired once and hasn’t surfaced since. B Angie B is best known for her huge hit cover of The Emotions ‘I Don’t Want To Lose Your Love,’ also killed in the ballad ‘So Much Love.’ She toured and sang and danced for Hammer and on Oaktown’s 357’s ‘Juicy Gotcha Krazy’ (her dancing in that video!) She also sang on One Cause One Effect’s ‘Midnite Lover’ and is featured in that video. Also check out her dancing in the video for ‘Class Act.’ She sang the title track from that movie. I believe she may have been treated similarly as Oaktown 357, as in under paid or not paid. It’s a shame what could have been for these talents, with proper treatment and good management, with proper compensation and a lot less greed.

Well I was a DJ at a small black radio station and Hammer was very generous with me in exchange for adding his artists. I’m not excusing him for not paying them, it is just he tried his best to get his artists played. If he was paying me, one little station, what was he doing for the rest of the stations? Edit-the “payments” were boxes of T shirts or free CDs I could give away to my listeners.
