I've had several amps (American and Japanese) and each one has their own sound, and i bought last week the MC462 and i can say it got a fantastic clean wide sound (with Tannoy 15-inch Dual Concentric).

Good God... as soon as I win the LOTTERY... yep, I'll be buying this amp. I've listened to the Mac's at Magnolia Theater, and it's what I ultimately need to make my Bowers & Wilkins sing.

ordered it last week.... patiently waiting for them to ship to my dealer! Cannot wait... will be mated to a C53 PreAmp, and MCT500 SA/CD.... and best of all, a dCS Rossini DAC!

@@chuckHinton look for it on my channel in about a month or so when all my equipment arrives and is set up... the plan for now is the DA-2 DAC will be just for the SACD, but I will contrast it for the sake of experimentation on other sources with the dCS.

@@Sams911 Cool, I look forward to it. On DSD, the McIntosh balanced digital design has far lower IMD than other designs, so it will be especially good for SACD.

I like mac and all but i'm wondering why they REALLY added the small bump in headroom along with the glass tops and logo heatsink. they advertise all these key points, and over half of them you can find already in the 452. i'd buy a used 452 and save $2500+ over a 462 any day. the 452 has gone up in value. as of 1/2021 i've seen some advertised for $7000 USD, and that's not on walletgon. it reminds me of the 602, once people realized the magic of that amp it was too late, already discontinued. i had a chance to compare a 452 to a 602 recently, the 602 has about 25A more current, you really have to have some demanding speakers to use that extra bit of headroom. by time you need it, you're already into the 600w rms range. the new mac sound is less old school and bright, more neutral but overall more refined. the 452 will run right along side the 602. I know audio is all opinions, but maybe this little nugget will help someone that stumbles on this video while searching for a mc452 or mc462.

I have a relative newbie question please - and I fear the answer may be very obvious (so apologies). Everyone raves about McIntosh amplifiers but I never see them being reviewed by the main KZfaq reviewers. Is it simply because McIntosh doesn't supply their kit to reviewers or some other reason? thank you

Hi Brendan, As the largest selling (by far) of any brand in high-end audio, McIntosh has many review requests from major media outlets, we simply don't have enough review units to lend out to everyone who asks. However, there are many results when searching for "McIntosh labs Reviews" on youtube.

I have just got this MC462. When I turn it on, there is an audible hum through the amp (not through the speakers) which I don’t hear with my c2700 pre-amp. The hum is fairly quiet, but is audible at one meter away when no music is playing. Anyone else notices this?

D.C. Off-Set at the A.C. line can excite power supply transformers and cause them to hum, have an electrician check your outlet for DC Off-Set. The very large power supply transformer in large amps puts off a magnetic field that can cause the chassis to vibrate and create a slight mechanical hum, but it will be very quiet. Looks great.... but i just can't bring myself to do it just yet, ive always loved mac gear.... but there are better amplifiers out there that cost less, or even equal the amount from bryston... their cubed pro stuff has a 20 your warranty and their specs are superior.... even despite that, I love the way the mac gear looks.... im sure the Transformers have their own sound signature... which is probably an acquired taste, ultimately id use the bryston for studiowork and might use a mac for a living room system... meh... might as well buy one of each. 😂

All designs have their advantages and disadvantages, no one is best for everyone, we design gear we like and want to take home and use ourselves, if that works for you great, if not, that's fine, we just want you to enjoy your system. ( BTW, the Bryston amps have twice the distortion and 16dB higher noise floor. )

You're claiming a Bryston amp is superior to a Mac? What are you smoking? You must be an advert person for Bryston, but I doubt you've fooled anyone here that's familiar with McIntosh.

McIntosh should bring Dual Mono Amplifier, something similar to MC 451, but with a higher wattage, something close to 600 watts rather than 300 watts. It doesn't serve the purpose of your speakers have higher wattage than 300 watts.

Macintosh uses Autoformers. Junk. Krell , Mark Levinson or Spectral will blow them away.

The ML has 0.3% distortion and 85dB s/n ( the Krell is similar) that is 160 times the distortion and 34dB worse signal to noise Ratio than the MC462, but Audio can be a matter of personal preference and those are fine products for those who prefer them.

Which krell or ML going blown away thid Mac amp. U wanna bash pls b specific on model n prices For usd 9k i know only parasound jc5 is comparable but diff taste. But resale value Mac win hands down Spectral diff league n way overprice

I'm replacing a ML 532 at $21K for MC462 at $9K. People call JUNK what they don't like and don't respect other people's taste. Both are fine products, just different
