Thank you for hints on the sleeves, it worked great. I made this per your instructions but, I made it as a top with shorter zipper and the collar I left it “loose’ so it lays around my neck smoothly. Thank you for all your videos. They are great. ❤️ them all.

Wow! I just found your tutorial! You sew exactly as I was taught by my mom and Grandmother. I sewed a lot of my own clothes as a high school student. After I married I made my husband shirts and a corduroy jacket.. years later, I made my daughter and I matching clothes, until she got to old to have mom making her clothes, and then, life and work got in the way. Then, my body "matured" and fitting became an issue... so, like so many others, I switched to quilting... YOU, however, make me want to sew again! Your awesome! Thank you!!

Oh my goodness, Angela! Your comment went to the spam folder. I used a zig-zag stitch for the entire garment, except the shoulders. I use a narrow zig-zag, which looks like a narrow stitch from a distance. My settings were 0.5 stitch width and 2.5 stitch length. I hope that helps.

McCalls (M6231)The question, what type of scissors do you recommend and 2, I accidently placed a shirt front on the fold and cut it but was not supposed to, do I just stitch it and hope the front facing fits when I get to it. Coincidently the pattern piece facing was NOT in the envelope anywhere,,,I've reached out to McCalls but am waiting for a response. Thanks, hope you can help!

1. I don't have a preference for scissors. Anything that cuts well is good. I used Ginghers, Fiskars, and LDH Scissors. If you have enough fabric, I recommend cutting the pieces out again.

Great advice about the zipper. Hey Anita, what pencils do you use for marking your fabric? There are often so many complaints about the effectiveness of pens. Also, is there any way to add darts to patterns with no darts for us big-breasted girls?

Hi Kendal! I use the pencils by Dritz or I use chalk. But most of the time I use a regular pencil. The one you see in the video is an artist pencil.

What brand is your iron
@AnitabyDesign

It's a gravity feed iron that I DO NOT recommend. It went bad in less than a year, so I replaced it with my favorite Rowenta Steam Station.

Ah Anita! I had just decided to try to do better about my sewing purchases. Then this video appeared...and the fabric I wanted was on sale 50% off. And the pattern was $1.99. So of course I ended up at Joann's the next day! Madame Joann thanks you! 😄 Question about the zipper length: the color I needed only came in 9". Would it work to place the zipper higher as you instructed, so it aligns with the collar edge, but move up the lower end of the zipper opening accordingly? Thanks for being an amazing instructor. You are truly gifted!

Oh and I forgot to say that is a cute iron! Is it small or regular sized? Is it in your store?

This is something I’ve never understood: when you stitch a seam then they tell you to cut away the seam allowance why don’t they just sew it that seem allowance to begin with so you don’t have to cut?
@AnitabyDesign
@AnitabyDesign Жыл бұрын
I'm not sure why the patten companies design the patterns that way, but it's nice to have that extra allowance beyond the seam for making alterations while sewing the garment. If it turns out that you need a bit more room, you can let out the seam to build in the extra inches.

Thank you very much Anita. Now, all I need is some more Rib Knit fabric so that I can try making my dress again. Perhaps I can get the zipper right on my 2nd try! (LOL)

Ooohhh, I'm so glad you're gonna give it another try. You can do this, sis. Just take your time and use a basting stitch on the first round. Please let me know how it turns out.
